Has coconut oil helped anyone with their acne?

free2live_

I've read that it really helps, but im not sure if it will make it worse or not. Wanted some real opinions, not made up stories that can be on the internet.

Answer
Actually, coconut oil is antibacterial also (as well as antiviral). Tea tree oil is a drying oil, which I wouldn't put on my face (only if I had a cut or something). It's hard on your skin.

Coconut oil does not clog my pores - I use it instead of moisturizer...or as moisturizer maybe I should say. It also acts as a sunscreen (spf 4 or so).

Taking Coconut Oil Internally?

Dennis Luc

I have heard of taking coconut oil internally. I heard if you take it internally it can help prevent and cure acne. is this true? also what are the other internal effects. and is 3tbs of coconut oil how much i should take a day. also how many times a day should i apply it directly to my skin to avoid too much oily skin?

Answer
The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength. These benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, soothing, etc.

If you are using coconut oil for topical purposes, especially hair care, just melt the oil (if it is solid) by keeping the bottle in the sun or warm water. You can also take some coconut oil out and put it in a small bowl and heat the bowl over a flame (do not use microwave). Then take the oil on your palm and apply it to your hair. If you want to use it for internal consumption, simply replace butter or vegetable oils with coconut oil in your recipes. Remember, you need not switch to coconut oil completely, as you will miss the benefits of other oils and dairy products.

Anywhere from 2-4 tablespoons a day is sufficient.

Which oils are the best for using as a facial moisturizer?

Princess

I've heard good things about olive, argan, coconut, sweet almond, hemp, jojoba, and rose hip oils. Which ones are the best for normal skin? I don't have any problems with acne.

Answer
Each oil has its own benfits and it really depends on your skin type - personally if you are only looking for an oil to use as a facial moisturiser I would recommend Jojoba Oil.

Sweet Almond - very moisturising, rich in EFAs and vitamins A & E. Light both in odour and colour and while it is suitable for all skin types, is particularly useful for dry or sensitive skin.

Apricot Kernel - similar to Sweet Almond oil chemically, but with a wonderfully light consistency and aroma making it particularly suitable for facial massage and treatments.

Grapeseed Oil - a light, gentle, emollient oil with a low odour and good penetration. Readily absorbed by the skin and carries a low risk of allergy.

Jojoba Oil - not an oil , but a liquid wax, with natural moisturising and healing properties and suitable for all skin types.

Macadamia Nut Oil - a thick oil recommended for mature or very dry skin due to its high levels of palmitoleic acid, a mono-unsaturated fatty acid not found in most oils.

These oils can be used singly or in combination and may benefit from the addition of other oils such as -

Evening primrose oil- rich in EFA's and in particular GLA, it is very moisturising and rejuvenating, softening and smoothing the skin. It is particularly useful for excessively dry skin or for mature skin.

Rosehip oil - high in EFA's and vitamin C. Emollient and readily absorbed into the skin and is particularly useful for mature, dry or damaged skin.

Wheatgerm Oil - renowned for its high content of Vitamin E, an antioxidant, as well as fatty acids and is particularly useful for dry or mature skin.

Hope this helps!

WHY Does Coconut Oil Help With Cognitive Function?

Gecko

I know that when a put a teaspoon or so of coconut oil in my morning coffee I have more energy, I'm more alert, & more focused. It also puts me in a better mood because I have more energy and my brain feels less foggy.

What exactly does coconut oil do to help your brain?
*When I put

Answer
There is no compelling evidence to support that. Studies so far have been too small and poorly designed, typical of the alternative medicine fraternity. Your personal experience fails to rule out placebo effects. Moreover, it seems the proposed mechanism of action (benefits due to ketones providing an alternative energy source for brain cells) has not passed scientific muster, as yet.

Question about Black seed Oil?

Q. I was just wondering, which "brand" is best? I mean they are all the same right? But when I went to the shop there were many different ones such as imaan black seed oil and another one which I can't remember lol

http://www.amsons.co.uk/black-seeds/

There is a lot more than that in the shop - do you have a particular brand that you use?

Also does the rub-in ones work? I would like to buy some for my mom and use it on her back since she gets backache
BTW if you don't want the oil how do you use the actual seeds? Since the Prophet said "Use this black seed regularly, because it has a cure for every disease except death.â (Reported by Bukhari.)
So I would prefer to use the seed not the oil

Answer
Salaam

I agree with Maryam, if your going to buy the oil buy Shifa Pure Virgin Cold Pressed, if your buying the soap, buy the Black Seed & Coconut, its nice I use it.

For back ache and other muscular pains mildly heat some Black Seed oil and then stroke the affected area intensely with the oil, together with a teaspoon (5ml) of Virgin black seed oil to be drunk three times daily. Works within a few weeks, Insha'Allah.

Whole Black Seed is available at the link below, its not to expensive.
http://www.steenbergs.co.uk/product/67/nigella-seed-organic-organic-black-seed-kalonji

Whole black seed are crushed and the oil is then extracted, I have used Whole Black Seeds to make tea. I wouldn't really bother crushing the seeds for the oil, when the oil is available in bottle form.

You can make tea by simply pouring hot water over the seeds and letting the brew steep for 10 minutes, about a tablespoon makes a nice cup of tea, but it is better to keep the cup covered until ready to drink so as to prevent the aroma from escaping. Some people add a few seeds to their favorite tea or coffee.

Some of the benefits of black seed tea are:
- It helps keep your hair and skin healthy
- Black seed tea protects your body from dangerous free radicals like superoxide
- It helps support your cells and deal with BPH
- It may help control allergic reactions and support immunity

What are the benefits of coconut oil and virgin coconut oil? ?

kelly

Hi! I'm Racquel. BSE student. These are some of the information in my research.

Read the facts below to discover why the Coconut Oil is now referred
to as the "Healthiest Oil in the World" because of its unique health-
giving properties. Studies demonstrate that of all fats and oils,
coconut oil is not only nutritious, but has the most health benefits.

FACT No.1: Coconut oil is the best and richest natural source of the
immune-boosting lauric acid among all the vegetable oils.

Among the vegetable oils traded in the world, coconut oil is
the best and richest natural source of lauric acid which makes up
about 50 percent of its healthy fat content. All other vegetable oils
are completely deficient in this. Lauric Acid, an important component
of breast milkis also the primary saturated fatty acid found in
coconut oil.

Lauric Acid is the most important essential fatty acid in
building and maintaining the body's immune system and has a powerful
antimicrobial effect that can kill a wide variety of infectious
organisms. Among the saturated fatty acids, lauric acid has the
maximum anti-viral activity.

Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid (MCFA), which has
the additional beneficial function of being formed into monolaurin
in the body. Monolaurin is the anti-viral, antibacterial and anti-
protozoal monogllyceride used by humans or animals to destroy lipid
coated viruses, such as HIV, herpes, influenza and pathogenic
bacteria.

FACT No.2: Coconut oil is rich in plant-based, healthy type of good
saturated fats which is very different from the animal-based
saturated fats. Coconut oil has no cholesterol.

Coconut oil is rich in plant-based, healthy type of
saturated fats. It is 92 percent highly saturatedfat. Not all
saturated fats are created equal. Just like polyunsaturated fats
which are sub classified into omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9, saturated
fats are also sub-classified into short chain, medium chain and long
chain. The dramatic differnce is with the fatty acid composition and
is fully documented by years of scientific research. In contrast with
animal fats (long chain fatty acids-LCFA) which contain cholesterol,
coconut oil, which is from the plant-based source has no cholesterol.
The fatty acids of coconut oil (medium chain fatty acids-MCFA) are
easily assimilated - they are not stored in tha body like animal
fats.

There are good fats and bad fats. Our diet needs to include
the good tyoe of fats such as the saturated fats from coconut oil as
they play an important role in our body chemistry. Sixty percent
(60%) to eighty percent (80%) of our brain tissue and our nervous
system are made of very rich complex of fats. we can live without the
bad fats from red meat or animals, but good fats, such as the fats
from plant-based coconut oil and fats from fishes like salmon and
sardines are essentilaal for good health. We dont necessarily need a
low fat diet. we need a good fat diet.

Goods saturated fats, such as from the plant-based coconuts,
enhance the immune system. The fats around the heart muscle is
highly saturated. The heart draws on this reserve of fat ion times of
stress. Saturated fats also protect the liver from toxic effect of
alcohol and drugs. Fifty percent (50%) of cell membranes also
constitue saturated fatty acids. It gives our cells necessary
firmness and integrity. Saturated fats also play a vital role in the
health of bones. At least 50 percent of dietary fats need to be
saturated for calcium to be effectively incorporated in the skeletal
structure.

FACT No.3: Coconut oil is composed predominantly of the health-
boosting Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA).

Coconut Oil is unique. It is unlike most other dietary
oils. The secret behind coconut oil is that it is composed
predominantly of medium chain fatty acids (MCFA's) or Medium chain
triglycerides (MCT). It is the MCFA's which give it its remarkable
nutritional and medicinal properties. Coconut oil has the most or
largest concentration of MCFA's (64%) compared with the other oils
and fats.

The majority of the fats in our diet, whether they are
saturated or unsaturated comes from the plant or animal, are composed
of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA's). Soybean oil, corn oil, canola oil,
olive oil lard, and chicen fat as well as most all other fats and
oils in our diet, are composed entirely of LCFA's. Some 98 to 100
percent of the fat you eat each day consists of LCFA's. Long chain
fats take longer to digest and will tend to to be stored as stubborn
fat you can't get rid of . The medium-chain fatty acid (MCFA's) from
coconut ol have completely different effect on us than do the long -
chain fatty acids that are more commonly found in our food.

Answer
Coconut oil is the best oil to cook with, even better than olive oil, because the fatty acids don't turn to trans fat when heated.

It also contains Caprylic Acid which is great for killing candida, the pesky yeast that causes yeast infections and thrush.

I know a few people that have lost weight using coconut oil, the medium chain fats can speed up your metabolism. Which is why it is recommended for hypothyroidism.

can coconut oil really cure a yeast infection?

and how do i use it?

Answer
im a user of coconut oil but i know that the best and safest way to cure a yeast infection is to topically apply unpasteurized yoghurt to the affected area for seven days and ingest the same amount works every time
for centuries by the way...

Organic virgin coconut oil makes me gag?

Ms. Unique

I tried doing the coconut oil detox a couple of days ago, I was so excited because I'm trying to eat better so I wanted to cleanse out & start fresh. I bought the oil at a local health store, got it home & opened it; it smelled strongly like coconut so I was thinking, "oh this is going to be easy to take," it smelled good. I went to take a tablespoon of it & GAGGED. It tasted terrible! But I was able to get it down without throwing up. I tried putting it in a cup of warm lemon water, but then realized oil & water DON'T mix so it just sat on top of the lemon water & that last sip: nothing but oil, yuck! Then I tried mixing it with yogurt & stevia but it's like I can still taste it & I just keep flashing back to gagging. Now just the smell of it makes my stomach turn. I started seeing positive effects from the oil & I wanted to continue with the detox soo bad but I just couldn't get the oil down anymore & it was making me nauseous. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Answer
To detox try 1/2 cup of olive oil and 1/2 cup of pure lemon juice (don't mix with water) leave the coconut oil to use for your hair to strengthen and make your hair shine. Or use it in sauting curry paste to make curry dishes

An old fashion Coconut Cake recipe?

fatkatn

I've look at a bazillion recipes & I can't find this one.
Back in the day my mom would take me to these church dinners here in the south and some of the ladies made these great coconut cakes. They were so moist that they were almost like a pudding. I know that they used the coconut milk & evaporated milk. I think maybe they mixed sugar in,cooked it & poked holes in the cake & poured it in. The icing was not fluffly as I remember. The longer the cake sat the moister it got. All of these ladies who made these cakes are probably long gone by now. Does anyone know the recipe? It's probably a southern thing. I don't know.
Thank you SO much! I do beleive this is the one I've hunted for for years

Answer
Old-fashioned coconut cake

Ingredients:
3/4 cup virgin coconut oil
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon coconut extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
3 cups sifted cake flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup whole milk
6 egg whites

* You can add 1/8 cup butter, softened at room temperture to give a more buttery flavor.

Directions:
In a large mixing bowl, cream together shortening and butter. Beat in sugar gradually. Add vanilla, coconut and almond extract. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. To shortening/sugar mixture, add flour mixture alternately with milk, ending with flour. In a small mixing bowl, beat egg whites until stiff peaks are formed. Fold egg whites into batter. Grease and flour three 9-inch cake pans. Divide batter evenly in pans. Bake in a 350-degree oven 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center of pan comes out clean. Do not over-bake. Cool in pans 10 minutes. Remove cake from pans and cool completely on wire racks. Frost (recipe follows).

Cooked coconut icing

Ingredients:
1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup hot water
5 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon coconut extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups grated fresh coconut

Directions:
Combine in a heavy saucepan sugar, cream of tartar, salt and hot water. Cook and stir constantly over medium heat until sugar is dissolved, and the mixture becomes clear. Continue cooking without stirring until syrup reaches the soft-ball stage (238-240 degrees) on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and immediately begin beating egg white in a bowl until soft peaks form. Continue beating and add the syrup slowly to the egg whites. Add coconut and vanilla extracts and continue beating until stiff peaks form and frosting is thick enough to spread. Frost between layers, sides and top. Sprinkle coconut between layer and on top.

Virgin Coconut Oil for Skin Care?

werishee11

I'm interested in trying this and I'm just curious...

Is this really effective?
If you apply it to your face, would applying an exfoliating facial wash afterwards be too much?
do you apply it on your skin EVERYDAY? if so, how frequently? (like before going out, before going to bed etc.)

Answer
i dab a little organic virgin coconut oil lightly around my eyes. it does soften the facial skin, but i think bc of my rosacea it breaks me out just a little on my forehead and cheeks. but, any oil seems to do that to me. i use it before bed and sometimes in the morning. i use a couple of different moisturizers. and it's good for your skin if you're in the sun. produces a tan and helps protect the skin.

i cook with it too. i get my oil from either tropical traditions or fresh shores, online. sometimes, i'll coat my arms, legs, etc with the oil, let it soak for several minutes, then wipe the excess off. i have really dry skin, and it helps.

but, the first few times i applied it to my entire face, and my skin felt so soft. so, i was disappointed when i started to break out, like i always do anyway.

Answer
Basic recipe for making lip balm using kitchen tools.

Things You'll Need:
Olive oil
Beeswax
Vitamin E
Cocoa or Shea butter
Coconut oil
Menthol Crystals
White Camphor EO
Eucalyptus EO
Lipstick tube or Lip balm pods
Pyrex cup or double broiler (which ever you have)
A sliver of your favorite lipstick for coloring

1.
Melt 1 Tbsp Olive Oil, 1 Tbsp Beeswax, 1 tsp Vitamin E (or pierce a capsule and squeeze), 1 tsp Cocoa or Shea butter and 1 tsp Coconut Oil.

Note: If using pyrex & microwave, zap in short bursts to avoid bubbling. Make sure beeswax is completely melted. Stir between bursts.

2.
After all melting is done, add 4 drops of White Camphor and 4 drops of Eucalyptus essential oils. Mix well. Add .02 Menthol Crystals. Mix well. Add a tiny sliver of your favorite lipstick and mix until completely blended.

3.
Pour liquid into tubes and /or pods. Do NOT put lids on until they are completely cool.

Note: Menthol crystals are available at pharmacy. Tubes, pods and beeswax can be found at Michael's Craft store. Essential Oils can be found at Natural Health stores, but make sure they are NOT fragrance oils. The cooking oils are stabilizing factors. Vitamin E keeps mixture from becoming rancid.

Anyone want to share their own lip balm recipes?

Q.

Cocoa Lip Balm
Lip balm makes the lips soft in the winter, especially when they get chapped from the cold. It also makes your lips kissable in a flavor, and

You Will Need
Glass Bowl
Small Containers
Microwave
Pen
Spoon
Sticker Maker or Glue
2 tsp Coco Powder
6 tsp Vaseline or Petroleum Jelly
Paper
Coco Lip Balm

1.Make your lips taste delicious with some coco lip balm.
2. Place the petroleum jelly / vaseline in to a bowl.
3.Melt it down using a microwave, this should take a few minutes, but take it out and stir it regularly.
4.Stir in the coco and return to the microwave for another 20 seconds.
5. Pour in to small plastic containers and leave to set.
6. Design some cute packaging.

Either use a sticker maker or glue the design to the containers. Package it up and it's ready to use or give to your friends.

Tips [edit]
â¢Use cocoa powder like you would use in hot chocolate.
â¢Petroleum jelly is usually an ingredient used in the moisturizing lip balms that are sold in stores.
â¢Substitute beeswax with a touch of almond oil or coconut oil, and add whatever flavor you prefer, if you wish to avoid petroleum products.
â¢Use a disposable container to melt the Vaseline in, so you can just throw it away afterward.
â¢If you use instant cappuccino mix, you might want to try to use that instead of cocoa mix.
â¢If you are curious as to what color your lips will be, just put some powder on your wet lips to get a pretty good idea.
â¢Little beer bottle caps as containers could be small and very cute.
Good Luck!!!!

Answer
Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shiny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.

Is coconut oil good for you?

Lala

I've been hearing that coconut oil is good for you but I'm not sure for what nor how to use it. Any personal experience with it? Also is it good for dry feet lol
#thanksð

Answer
HEALTH BENEFITS OF COCONUT OIL
HAIR CARE
Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrients for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing it with a shiny complexion. It is effective in reducing the protein loss for damaged and undamaged hair. Research studies also indicate that coconut oil provides better protection to hair from damage caused by hygral fatigue.
SKIN CARE
Coconut oil is an excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturiser on all types of skins including dry skin. Unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application â it also delays wrinkles, and sagging of the skin which normally become prominent with age.Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections.
HEART DISEASES
There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for the heart. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats.
However, coconut oil is beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50 per-cent lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
WEIGHT LOSS
Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. As I have already explained it contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight.
It is also easy to digest and it helps in the healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Furthermore, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on the pancreas, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight.
DIGESTION
Internal use of coconut oil occurs primarily as cooking oil. Coconut oil helps in improving the digestive system and thus prevents various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. Coconut oil also helps in absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
IMMUNITY
Coconut oil is also good for the immune system. It strengthens the immune system as it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties.
The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. It helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia.
HEALING AND INFECTIONS
When applied on infections, it forms a chemical layer which protects the infected body part from external dust, air, fungi, bacteria and virus. Coconut oil is most effective on bruises as it speeds up the healing process by repairing damaged tissues.
OTHER
Coconut oil is strongly recommended for other benefits which are given below. Usage of coconut oils mildly helps for the following:
⢠Liver â the presence of medium chain triglycerides and fatty acids helps in preventing liver diseases as they substances are easily converted into energy when they reach the liver, thus reducing the work load on the liver and also preventing the accumulation of fat.
⢠Kidney â Coconut oil helps in preventing kidney and gall bladder diseases. It also helps in dissolving kidney stones.
Pancreatitis â Coconut oil is also believed to be useful in treating Pancreatitis.
⢠Stress relief â Coconut oil is very soothing and hence it helps in removing stress. Applying coconut oil to the head followed with a gentle massage helps in removing mental fatigue.
⢠Diabetes â Coconut oil helps in controlling blood sugar, and improves the secretion of insulin. It also helps in effective utilisation of blood glucose, thereby preventing and treating diabetes.
⢠Bones â As mentioned earlier, coconut oil improves the ability of our body to absorb important minerals. These include calcium and magnesium which are necessary for development of bones. Thus coconut oil is very useful to women who are prone to osteoporosis after middle age.
⢠Dental care â Calcium is an important element present in teeth. Since coconut oil facilitates absorption of calcium by the body, it helps in getting strong teeth. Coconut oil also stops tooth decay.
⢠Finally, coconut oil is often preferred by athletes and body builders and by those who are dieting. The reason behind this being that coconut oil contains lesser calories than other oils, its fat content is easily converted into energy and it does not lead to accumulation of fat in the heart and arteries.Coconut oil helps in boosting energy and endurance, and enhances the performance of athletes.

Answer
actually coconut oil is extremely nourishing for your hair. it restores damaged proteins, moisturizes and nourishes, reduces frizz, helps regrow hair, strengthens hair, cures dandruff, prevents split ends, slows hair loss, and SOO much more.

people have been using coconut oil for their hair and face for thousands of years and it works wonders. also on if you see on youtube, majority of the masks or diy beauty tutorials mention or include coconut oil or other coconut byproducts because it is so good for you inside and out.

I also got some info from these websites if you're still unsure

What is best: henna or coconut oil for natural hair conditioner?

Ruby

if you know the benefits of each thatd be great!
and what type of hair each are used for

thankyou!

Answer
That might depend on what you want to use it for.
Henna is good for dandruff removal and prevention for a while afterwards. It has to be pure unadulerated henna though....be careful what you buy if you are going to buy henna....look for 100% pure henna only. Read the label before you buy. It is only really suitable for dark brown to black hair. It will gve dark brown hair a reddish glow and shine, particularly in sunlight. You can however add a little coffee powder to the henna powder before making a paste if you want to dampen down the red.It will condition the hair and scalp. It is perhaps too messy for regular use. You should always carry out a spot test first....to be sure you won't get an allergic reaction as it might not suit the scalp of everyone. It will take some washing off.....a few washes. It is difficult to apply....you really need someone to do that for you.

Coconut oil is good for dandruff prevention if used regularly and you could use it once a week for that.....make sure you apply it to your scalp as well as hair. But you will have to wash it off with at least two washes. It also leaves your hair soft and quite conditioned.....though you can still use your regular conditioner afterwards. Coconut oil can also be used for lice removal. It can be used on any hair type and colour.

Hope that is of some help.

(10 points!!) coconut oil ?!?!?

teebaby

what are the benefits of it for your hair and trying to maintain weight?
and where can you buy it in pennsylvania?
thanks

Answer
The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength.

Hair Care: Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair.

Weight Loss: Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Further, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on pancreases, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who eat coconut oil daily as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.

How much weight will I lose in 2 months if.....?

Q. For the past week I have been on a diet.
I have been exercising and eating healthily.
I have been going on the striding machine an hour a day apart from sundays. In school I get 3 hours of PE a week and I walk a mile to school and back home. How much weight do you think I could lose if I carry this on?
People, I don't want links to diet plans or telling me to try pills. I just simply want to know a brief outline of what I will lose...

Answer
I think you should cut out cardio and replace it with High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and body weight or kettlebell exercises. The walking is fine, but the cardio will basically have this effect: you'll lose a few pounds, maybe 5-6, then plateau, then start gaining weight back slowly. HIIT has the benefit of requiring a few minutes a day or 2-3 sessions of maybe 20 minutes a week and giving max fat loss results. Don't fret about building muscle and looking manish or anything ridiculous... Women find it incredibly difficult to obtain that look even if they're on hormones and spending 4-6 hours at the gym each day.

Cardio, especially the type you're doing, is detrimental to fat loss, and you really need to think of it as fat loss because what most people experience with weight loss via cardio is muscle loss in the range of 80% of total weight loss. You DON'T want that, it'll reduce your metabolism and on top of that, you'll create a higher body fat set point, which essentially makes it progressively more difficult for you to lose weight because your body really, really likes maintaining as much fat as possible.

Here is the basic formula for my clients who want really rapid weight loss:

Check your BMR, eat about 500-800 calories fewer than that number (you can find calculators online)

No grains - brown or white - they inhibit weight loss and spike insulin (fat storage hormone). No sugar, obviously, keep fruit to a minimum (1-2 pieces a day, only in the morning).

Try for 90-120g of very lean protein each day at least, add healthy fats and green veg on top, eat 1 serving of starch in the morning or afternoon meal. Healthy fats are: Grass fed butter or tallow; coconut oil; macadamia nut oil. Don't touch the vegetable oils. Olive oil is fine, but NEVER cook with it and be sparing.

Don't eat 5 times a day, that will just keep your blood sugar elevated which in turn keeps insulin elevated, eat 2-3 times a day; try twice a week skipping either breakfast or dinner.

Take up a Tabata-style exercise routine: pick 5 body weight exercises (pushups, situps, squats, lunges, etc.) and follow the 20 second high intensity, 10 second rest formula for 8 reps. There are timers online (search Tabata timer) to help track. In those 20 seconds push yourself as hard as possible, then either lie down for 10 seconds or stand still to bring your heart rate down before starting up again. It's 4 minutes of hell, but it's preferable to 60 minutes of mind numbing monotony. And I swear to you, you'll burn 30-60% more fat in those 4 minutes vs those 60, it's been studied extensively.

Follow that exactly, and I can guarantee between 3-6% body weight lost per week. So if you're 200 that's between 6-12 pounds, at 150 it's 4.5-9 pounds, at 130 it's 3.9-7.8, at 120 it's 3.6-7.2.

almond oil vs. coconut oil (need advice, thanx)?

Purple

hi. i've decided to use one of these as a moisturizer because every moisturizer (including the ones that docs prescribe) give me allergy. which one is better for winter, stronger - coconut or almond?

thanx a lot

Answer
Coconut oil is stronger but almond oil seems to really get into the skin and adds moisture. If the problem is sensitivity to moisturisers I would recommend 100% unrefined shea butter. It's the most amazing thing for sensitive skin. It does have a bit of a smell but if you melt it and add a little almond oil to it, it'll be ok. Try it your skin will love you for it. It's easy to find it online or at the health food store, granted it's waaay cheaper on line. The pro is that it actually adds Hylauronic acid to the skin and that acts like a magnet for moisture, so your skin stays hydrated all day.

do they sell cocoa mix made without Coconut oil in it because i have nut allergy?

Kiearra

I seen some before but, I can't find it anymore I just too drink it all the time. But than I found out it had coconut oil in it. I use too think I was just putting too many packs of cocoa in the water. I thought was making me each,( I have a eczema so a lot of things make itch if I have too much) so I put less in it but I was still ictchy so I finally read it and I found out coconut oil was in it. Which I'm allergic too! I tried making it homemade but it comes out all wrong. (Nasty!) I found some before that didn't it in it but now I can't find it any more. I tried Busches and Walmart both didn't have it. So help me with this because I haven't had hot chocolate in nearly 2 years if you count when I made it a year.
I use to drink Swiss miss and Nestle both has coconut in it which I'm allergic too. Coconut is a basicly a tree nut but not really but close. So please no smart comments about it not being a nut. I already tried making it homemade and I just want to buy some. I'm 16 and my mom dosen't like me really making anything that I'm going to waste which I will if I make. I tried to make it before with the Hershey's cocoa.

Answer
Ah!laska appears to be coconut oil/nut products free: http://www.ahlaska.com/productlist.aspx?catid=Organic+Cocoa

ETA: Please do not use the recipe calling for non-dairy creamer because most non-dairy creamers contain coconut oil or palm kernel oil (you should also avoid palm/palm kernel because coconut is in the palm family.)

coconut oil?

AboveTheLa

ive recently started to use coconut oil on my skin as a relaxer/moisturizer.
my question, im very concerned about my hair as a male.....and very concious about it. im not bald, have good thick hair. however, i have heard that massaging coconut oil into the scalp is very healthy for the hair. i dont wish to and never have used anything on my hair apart from johnsons baby shampoo, no gel no spray...strictly pure.

Will eating coconut oil by using them to cook my food benefit my hair too?

thanks

Answer
Yes.

Anything that you put into your mouth ultimately comes out in your hair - that is why they can test people for drugs using hair samples. So ingesting the oil instead of massaging it into your scalp will benefit your hair. Vitamin E is also another vitamin that is an "oil" that is good for your hair. You can buy vitamin E in capsules at any drug store.

As a side note - while baby shampoo won't harm your hair in any major way - it is not the best shampoo to use. Reason being, (this is going to be a quick chemistry lesson for you) baby shampoo is created to the same Ph level as your eyes. That is why it can get in a baby's eyes and they won't cry. It doesn't burn. However.. it does burn your hair because your hair is a different ph than your eyes.

If you look at most shampoo bottles they say, "Ph balanced". That means that it is designed to be the same Ph as your hair - it won't dry your hair out. Baby shampoo actually dries your hair out since it's not Ph balanced to your hair.

If you are suffering from dry hair, I can assure you that the johnson's baby shampoo is a major reason for it. Using a Ph balanced shampoo is much better for you.

Coconut Oil good for hair?

Is Spectrum Naturals refined coconut oil good for damaged black woman hair? Its the one in the jar

Answer
Cocoanut oil liquefies and is molecularly tiny enough to actually penetrate the hair shaft. It is too oily to wear like all the time but is a great treatment ingredient and scalp treatment base.
I have baby fine white girl hair, naturally oily scalp but hair is damaged. I came up with something that has really helped the long term condition....might be worth a try for your hair. I make enough in a canning jar that the lid seals tightly....it lasts quite a while.
Find a jar or clean container....mix 1/2 cocoanut oil (I have to melt it for like 20 sec. in the microwave) and 1/2 leave in conditioner. Very important, use ONLY a LEAVE-IN conditioner. Leave-ins are formulated to be pH balanced not to burn your hair. Many regular rinse-out conditioners will burn your hair if you leave them in more than a few minutes.
Blend the 2 thoroughly.
When you want to use it (I do it 2x a week), just work it through your hair and massage into your scalp. Only enough so that when you comb through, it looks like damp, towel dried hair. Sleep with it in. Shampoo out in the AM with your regular shampoo. Depending on your scalp type and damage to your hair, use your regular rinse out conditioner if needed. Due to my oily scalp, I just use a leave in on the ends (not the oil and leave-in mix, just the leave-in).
I have really had good luck with this.....several friends are now using it.

Cracks at corner of mouth?

lilyann

I have had cracks on both sides of my mouth for over four months now. I take prenatal vitamins every day. I took xtra b vitamins for a month but that didn't help. My diet is very healthy. For the past month I have applied vasoline at least 5 times a day. I am breastfeeding so can that be it? I hear a lot of people get other skin problems when breastfeeding. Has any one else had this problem? And if so how did you cure it?

Answer
Your skin is dry, not just your mouth. Dry skin is usually a sign of kidney stress. Your whole body should be moisturized with coconut oil, Shae butter or pure cocoa butter. NOT VASELINE that is petroleum and detrimental to mucus membranes like your mouth. It is not absorbed into the skin therefore provides no benefit. Breastfeeding is taking your nutrients and passing it onto the baby, so you need to be thinking about how much is being taken away. What is eating healthy? You should only be eating RAW, FRESH fruits and vegetables, with raw unsalted unroasted nuts, with steel cut grains. THAT'S IT. Breast-milk contains 2 vital things Caprylic acid and Acidophiles. The acid prevents mold and fungus from being passed on, and the other bacteria allows the milk to be digested by your child, because humans cannot digest milk of any kind PERIOD.

Unless you are eating the way I described above, those prenatal vitamins aren't doing anything but sitting at the bottom of your stomach and being passed out in your fecal matter. They are synthetic, and your body isn't stupid. It knows natural from unnatural. Make sure that your body is putting back what it is using and then some. You need to eat yogurt, and limit the amount of breads and sugar in your diet, and plenty of water to filter out impurities.

Am I drinking too much soymilk?!?

moderngirl

I am a 28 year old breastfeeding mom and my son is allergic to dairy. So, I stopped having dairy and have been drinking soymilk daily.

I somedays drink as much as 4 cups of soymilk a day (4 x 240ml). Is it too much?

Thanks!

Answer
There has been a lot of soy-bashing going on in the media over the last few years. In my opinion, much of it began as a knee-jerk reaction by the dairy industry. Soy milk sales have put a dent in dairy sales, for sure.

In Asian cultures where soy food consumption was traditionally high and dairy consumption low, rates of heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, obesity, and breast, prostate, and colon cancers were also low. As these societies have started consuming more dairy, their incidence of these diseases has also begun to increase.

The saturated fat, excessive protein, and cholesterol found in cow's milk and all products made from cow's milk (cheese, butter, ice cream, etc.), are perfect for a growing baby cow, who needs to grow hundreds of pounds in a relatively short time. But cow's milk is not the perfect food for human babies or adults. Quite the contrary. The rates of the aforementioned diseases, along with the incidence of juvenile diabetes, asthma, upper respiratory infections, and lactose intolerance in our dairy-consuming culture all demonstrate that we should be drinking something else, instead of cow's milk.

We eat a lot of soy products at our house. Many epidemiological studies indicate that there are many health benefits to be gained from consuming soy. But I'm also sure that as with any plant food, the farther you get from the whole food itself, and the more processed it is, the less likely it will be nutritionally ideal.

Having said that, the most well thought-out article on soy that I have ever read is called What About Soy? by John Robbins, author of the books, Diet for a New America, The Food Revolution, and Healthy at 100. I highly encourage you to read this article to gain an excellent perspective on soy.

There are a myriad of delicious alternatives to milk, as dobbaaa mentioned. My favorite milk alternative is made from coconut milk under the brand name So Delicious. We're drinking it like crazy at our house, and along with its delightful taste, we are enjoying many of the health benefits of coconut oil. If you live in the U.S., you can find it at most natural food stores and many major supermarket chains.

what is the benefits of taking 3 tablespoons of coconut oil?

kambrajo

a friend of mine is always trying different health stuff and she told me this would give me energy, and it would be usefull for dystonia muscle problems that i have. any advice would be helpfull, i would like to spend more time to research this on the internet, however my neck gets to stiff an i am unable to do so. thanks

Answer
coconut oil is simply a highly saturated fatty acid, taking 3 tablespoons daily will simply raise your cholesterol levels. It will have no other effects but maybe to put on some weight.

Supposedly olive and coconut oils daily are good to ingest. How much, and what are the benefits?

Crystal

Answer
Coconut oil lowers cholesterol if it is high and raises it if it is too low. Coconut oil is unique in its ability to prevent weight-gain or cure obesity, by stimulating the metabolism. It is quickly metabolized, and functions in some ways as an antioxidant. Every study using natural, unprocessed coconut oil found a normalizing of cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure. This is also true of extra virgin olive oil, peanut oil and avocado oil.

Within a week, abnormal cortisol levels show improvement indicating adrenal restoration using vitamin B1, B complex and coconut milk. Patients seem more awake, their mood, energy and memory improves, and sleep becomes more normal.

Coconut oil is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal in the originating plant, in our gut and in our blood. Reducing seed oil consumption and using coconut milk or coconut oil as the dietary staple is reversing viral loads in HIV, eliminating all types of herpes virus and reducing or preventing other viral diseases including the yearly 'flus' and measles. The antiviral effect seems to be against lipid-enveloped viruses and is due to the presence of lauric acid in coconut oil.

In animal studies, feeding unprocessed coconut and coconut oils prevented tumor development, both malignant or benign.

The coconut oil or coconut milk must be un-preserved.

Equivalents are:

2-3 tablespoons of the unprocessed coconut oil daily.
1/3 can of the coconut milk twice a day -
(5 ounces twice a day).
1/2 coconut steeped, mashed and eaten daily

Coconut milk is not the juice from the inside of a young coconut. That thin liquid is called coconut water. Coconut milk is made by steeping the coconut and scraping out the meat, adding just enough water to simmer and mashing the end product into a thick, milky substance called coconut milk.

When choosing a brand of canned coconut milk, select the one with the highest fat content for the price

I just bought it, and it smells so good I have to stop myself from eating it! I put it in my hair once but it was too oily...is there something else I can mix this oil with? Or is there something extra I have to do?

Answer
My grandma used coconut oil, she made herself from fresh coconut, to get rid of lice on her head. In Asia, thousands of people do.

5 Hair Care MYTHS - BUSTED

âOld wivesâ tales and ineffective products that claim to treat or rehabilitate hair often have a placebo effect because people want them to work,â says Davis-Sivasothy, author of âHair Care Rehab,â (www.haircarerehab.com). âBut many of these ideas and products actually do the opposite of whatâs intended, and they delay the user from seeking out real solutions.â
Davis-Sivasothy debunks the following common hair-care myths:

â¢Â Myth: Thereâs a magic pill (or oil, serum or balm) to grow our hair faster, stronger or thicker. Unfortunately, no. Hair growth is genetically predetermined and controlled by our hormones. Unless the magic pill affects our genes or hormones, thereâs no hope that it might make our hair grow. (This includes prenatal vitamins. Basic vitamin supplements can offer slight improvements in hair quality, but only if our body truly lacks the particular

You get 100% more benefits, eating coconuts, fresh young sliced coconuts.

The ONLY product I use on my hair is shampoo, or bottled water when I'm traveling. We have soft water, I haven't used conditioner since the 80's - 90's when I was dyeing & perming my hair.

Did you use Almond Oil or Coco Butter during pregnancy?

SHORTii O.

I'm 12 weeks and starting to get a small little bump:) and I really do not want stretch marks!!
My sister has horrible stretch marks from her first and only pregnancy, my mom did to (but she had 4 children). So I guess I'm doomed to get some D:.... Also my cousin is 6 months and has a very small stomach (I talking about like just a little gut looking thing!), but also got horrible stretch marks.
So i was wondering if anyone has used Almond Oil or any other type of treatments that worked? Or at least helped reduse stretch marks or the way they look... My auntie recomended Almond oil, althou she did get stretch marks they are hardly noticable.
I know it all depends on the person and how you take care of yourself but i just want to know how good this things are.
I'm natrually thin/thick and I'm also exercising and hoping I don't get any:(

Answer
Don't believe the "you cannot stop stretch marks" or "it's genetic". It's all about your diet and how you take care of yourself. Make sure you drink enough water, stay away from processed foods, and eat plenty of fat (butter, yogurt, eggs, beef). I gained 50lbs during my pregnancy and did not have one stretch mark. I bought coconut oil to cook with and also applied it to my belly after the shower. It's $20 for a huge container of organic virgin coconut oil, and is worth the investment. I would swallow a little chunk every now and again as the health benefits are incredible. It's also a lot cheaper, and safer, than those "lotions". COCONUT OIL!!!

can you get coconut oil in walmart or walgreens?

Helena Whi

i need some non expensive virgin coconut oil for my hair can you tell me of where i can get some ? Can anyone tell me if it has worked on your hair nad what it did?

Answer
You can get a brand called Nutiva or another called Spectrum organics at Walmart. It's not cheap but not that expensive either. They are in the section with all the other cooking oils e.g. olive oil etc. They are also available in other grocery stores as well. Indian grocery stores have an oil called Vatika that is coconut oil mixed with other herbs. Some people have tried and liked it.

What in the world is coconut oil?

I <3 Taemi

Hi!!!!
Well anyways, to get to the point...
I've heard of coconut oil but i haven't a clue of what it is....
Do you just put it on your head?
Is it edible??? ... HELP!

Answer
I LOVE coconut oil. I have a big jar of organic extra virgin coconut oil (the best kind) that I got from Walmart; look for it in the pharmacy aisle. Coconut oil, from what I've heard, has health benefits, and you can ingest it. You can also cook with it. It's also great for your skin and hair. It makes my skin and hair soft and shiny. If you have hair that easily gets oily then use only a little bit of it in your hair. For instance, before you take a nice, warm, steaming shower, put a little bit of coconut oil in your hair and rinse (not shampoo or condition) while in the shower. You're hair will look nicer afterward. You can also warm some in the microwave and use it as a hot oil treatment.

Hair products are NOT made of glue to fix, prevent, reverse hair from getting damaged, or hair loss, or make them grow . . . . they are a trillion dollar business. They also do NOT give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss caused by heat & chemicals - hair's worst enemies. ⢠Hair products may claim one or more benefits, but usually they do not have scientific base.â¨
"No hair product can change the hair's biology," says Eric Bone, senior VP of global research and innovation @ L'Oreal USA. "Products that 'repair' them are like glue used to put a broken vase back together. At the end of the day, it's still broke," says dermatologist Paul J. McAndrews, MD, a clinical professor @ the University of Southern California School of Medicine. "Overall, products are a temporary fix, although some can help prevent damage. But your best bet is really to stop damaging hair, period."
Example 1: "Hello, my hair is bleached and I've colored it alot in the past.
I haven't retouched my bleached hair in a month or two and my hair is Constantly breaking off!!! I'm losing SOOO much hair!!! Especially in the middle of my hairline
Ive been using Moroccan oil conditioner, olive oil masks and my hair is still breaking off! PLEASE HELP ME."

Vidal Sassoon's brand was applied to shampoos and conditioners sold worldwide, with a commercial campaign featuring the iconic slogan in the 70's: "If you don't look good, we don't look good." He once said: "there's more money in the hair products than hairstyling".
Example from Craigslist FREE Offer: "Various hair and body items that I have used very little of each one. They are all excellent products but just do not work with my hair."

eat & chemicals are hair's worst enemies, tampering the growth of the hair making them grow slowly or none. The hair that you see? They're dead. Wikipedia. But your hair has static electricity sending current to the roots of your hair. That's tampering!

The hair is dead. Wikipedia. Whatever you put on the hair that's dead HAS NOTHING to do with growing. Eating does!

NO MATTER which link you picked, they all suggest the same foods. Your hair may be the fastest-growing tissue in the body but, unlike the skin, it cannot repair itself. That is why getting the right balance of vitamins and proteins is imperative. Don't expect to look like you've stepped out of a hair commercial the day after you've changed your diet. It is likely to take at least three months before you actually see tangible results. Hair is dead, but hair also has electrical energy; the negative charge of damaged hair can lead to flyways and unruly hair.

Growing healthy hair doesn't come from a bottle or pills and hair products do not speed hair growth. Any hair oil, is another form to keep hair moisturized, nothing more. If you're in HS, your hair & nails should be growing normally, and as healthily as possible, since you're eating healthy foods. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tampered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. . .

Why does only one nose clog up when I have a cold?

Crazydude

This is only the initial stages. If I have a really bad cold then both noses clogup but more often than not, only one nose will clog up.

Answer
Most of us are not aware of having a "Deviated Septum" (internal nose passage)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasal_septum_deviation

Allergies and a cold/sinus have very similar symptoms.
Either ways, you could "At Your Own Risk" try some of these natural remedies:
**Read the information on the link below before attempting.**
1) Cayenne Pepper Tea: Boil a cup of water, add 1/4(one quarter) teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper Powder, mix well and sip it till it's all gone. (or just gargle with it if you just have sore throat).
Your nose/throat/stomach will thank you soon after the third sip. lol
2) Ginger Tea: Bring to a boil a cup of water with 6+ fresh slices of ginger, let it cool for a minute(add 1tsp of honey/optional) and sip it till it's all gone. (ginger is also good for Nausea, Dizziness, Anxiety & Stress).
3) Chew/eat half clove of garlic (raw) ..... then drink half a cup of warm water.
4) Add 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar (raw-unfiltered) to half a glass of water and drink it.
5) .... Repeat any of the above every 6 to 12 hrs. even after symptoms have subsided. (health boost).
6) ....
The above remedies are also helpful for acid/reflux/heartburn/gas/stuffy nose/sore throat/cold & sinus & allergies symptoms.

After all, reading leads to knowledge. ;)
Use Q-tips to gently clean inside the ears. Too much earwax build up can cause all sorts of illness.
Also, if you drink half (100ml) of a Yop (Yoplait Yogurt) the bacteria's culture might help too. (if you're not allergic to milk/dairy products).
When in doubt, consult your doctor.
I hope you find your cure today.
Have a healthy happy life. :)
