Is coconut oil healthy for you?

John B

Answer
Coconut oil is the healthiest vegetable oil ever because of its anti-fungal, antibacterial and anti-viral property. It is widely used in south and southeast asian cuisine and medicine.
coconut oil ma be high in saturated fats. but saturated fats in coconut oil is different from saturated fats from the animals. It is has saturated fat which are called Medium Chain Triglycerides or MCT which is sent to our liver as energy so it doesn't contribute to weight gain. Medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil also speed up the body’s metabolism, burning more calories and promoting weight loss.

coconut oil(virgin) is useful for people who are suffering from certain diseases like skin diseases, hearth diseases, cancers and AIDS. Studies conducted in the Philippines last year showed that coconut oil does indeed reduce the viral load in AIDS patients.

coconut oil is also the best cooking oil because it has very low polyunsaturated fatty acids. most of the vegetable oils like soybean oil and olive oil have healthy chemicals on the but not applicable for cooking because those healthy chemical maybe destroyed by heat and turn into unhealthy chemicals which causes certaind diseases and cancers.

contain omega 6 fatty acids and no omega 3 fatty acids. We need Omega 3 and Omega 6 in our diet but the problem is we get too much omega 6 fatty acids but we we don't get the right amount of omega 3. the ideal ratio should be 1 omega 3 fatty acids to 1-4 omega 6 fatty acids(1-4:1). But modern western diet has average of 1 omega 3 fatty acids and 40 omega 6 fatty acids(1:40). However most of the fats fount in coconut milk are mostly saturated and monounsaturated fats. Unlike commercial vegetable oil which is mostly omega 6 fatty acids. 1 tablespoon of coconut oil contains only 250mg of omega 6. and one cup of coconut milk has 2.5 tablespoon of coconut oil. and it is easily balance by 1 sheet of nori/seaweed which contains 300mg of omega 3 and almost no omega 6.

try my recipe a recipe here.

Ingredient

1cup of coconut milk.
1 tsp of coconut oil.
3 tsp chopped ginger
2 cup of chopped string beans or broccoli
1/2 cup of chopped bell pepper
2 nori sheets(sushi wrapper) cut into desire size
salt and pepper.

procedure

1. Saute ginger in coconut oil.
2. Saute all the vegetables.
3. Pour the coconut milk and let it simmer.
4. put salt, peppr and nori sheets
5. ready to serve.

What are some benefits of coconut oil? And how is it to be used?

Answer
Coconut oil can be used in salads, and other foods. It can also be used on the skin and hair. It may also help your pie crusts taste and stay together better. Some say that its makeup helps keep you healthy, but those claims are quite difficult to assess.

It is often mentioned to help with various maladies such as diabetes and thyroid deficiency. It does not have any special properties with these problems. It will not increase your metabolism, though it could help you get fat if you eat too much of it.

There have been several medical studies of coconut oil, but these have mostly shown that there is no great benefit. Even the ones paid for by the coconut oil marketers didn't show benefit or were severely compromised.

Incidentally, this stuff should run for about $3 per gallon, and not more than $5/gallon. Many marketers will put it into smaller bottles and sell it for a lot more than that. They will also talk about "extra vigin" or whatever to try to increase the value. Coconut oil does degrade over time (it gets rancid if it is exposed to air for a while), so they will also explain that you must get only the freshest of it.

Coconut Oil for Skin?

Peace Love

So I have oily skin, but I'm very flakey in the witner which is now :( whenever I put my foundation on, it looks a hot mess because of the flakes! Ive tried several moisturizers and masks and the only one that has worked is my skinfood kiwi yogurt mask, but I don't have time to do it 3 times a week because it is time consuming. I heard about coconut oil helping with the flakiness. Is it okay to use on oily skin? How often do I use it? Thanks!

What is the nutritional value of coconut?

what are the benefits of using coconut oil as far as health is concerned?

birdlady

Answer
"Coconut oil has a unique role in the diet as an important physiologically functional food. The health and nutritional benefits that can be derived from consuming coconut oil have been recognized in many parts of the world for centuries. A review of the diet/heart disease literature relevant to coconut oil clearly indicates that coconut oil is at worst neutral with respect to atherogenicity of fats and oils and, in fact, is likely to be a beneficial oil for prevention and treatment of some heart disease. Additionally, coconut oil provides a source of antimicrobial lipid for individuals with compromised immune systems and is a nonpromoting fat with respect to chemical carcinogenesis." Mary G. Enig, Ph.D

What are the benefits of coconut oil?

.

How should it be used?

Answer
The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength. These benefits of oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial and soothing properties
How to Use Coconut Oil: If you are using coconut oil for topical purposes, especially hair care, just melt the oil (if it is solid) by keeping the bottle in the sun or warm water. You can also take some coconut oil out and put it in a small bowl and heat the bowl over a flame (do not use microwave). Then take the oil on your palm and apply it to your hair. If you want to use it for internal consumption, simply replace butter or vegetable oils with coconut oil in your recipes. Remember, you need not switch to coconut oil completely, as you will miss the benefits of other oils and dairy products.

coconut oil benefits?

Halle S

hey guys if you have used coconut oil can you tell me something about the below things? thanks so much??

~Hair &skin
~tanning
~weight loss
~firming skin

thank you SO much!!! also, can you tell me how to take the oil (not the capsules) if you cook with it (instead of using oil/butter), does it effect the taste of what you are cooking with?

thank you guys!!!!

Answer
Coconut oil doesn't add much of a taste to food, but adds a dreamy, sweet smell. It's great for tropical dishes! However, it is mostly saturated fat, so should be used in moderation. Certainly it is not a weight loss supplement. In one serving there are 14g of fat, 12.5 of which are saturated! Olive oil or vegetable oil would be a healthier alternative.

As for hair and skin, it's great for both. I use it as a facial and body moisturizer once a week and it works wonders even on sensitive, dry skin like mine. As for firming skin, I have not seen any research, but most research on cosmetic issues like that are completely unreliable anyway. Having fat in your diet is good for your hair, but applying it straight to your hair will leave it greasy.

Tanning....well, I don't tan ( counterproductive to the skin health issues) so I can't say.
Hope that helped a little :)

Coconut Oils?

I've been reading alot about the benefits of coconut oils (for cooking, applying to your skin and hair, etc.). I have been looking at several websites that explain everything about the oils and different types, which is the best, etc., however there are so many brands with huge price differences. Can anyone recommend a brand that you find works well and lives up to its promise? If you use it, what benefits do you think it has from personal experience? I know it is good for the skin outside, but supposedly it's good for many, many things, internally and externally. Thank you everyone!!
Also, which is better...virgin or extra virgin coconut oil?
thank you so far for the links, most of those i have read. I appreciate your help so far, but I am interested in hearing from people who are using it and what benefits they see and feel from it.

Answer
Virgin Coconut OIl or VCNO is all you need if it's a good brand.

It's incredible stuff. It definitely gives me more energy and in cooking it gives foods a great taste. Also if you fry with it it doesn't taste greasy.

Since frying can use a bit of it I use the Organic Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil. It doesn't smell quite as good but works fine for frying and is cheaper.

You have not lived until you've tried onion rings made with it. Not greasy at all and incredible!

It works great in baking except being a little soft for some recipes (especially in summer ) because it melts at like 74 degrees. If that's an issue just use 1/2 vcno and 1/2 butter.
The only thing I haven't cared for with it is scrambled eggs. It gives them a bit of a soapy taste but it's great in hot cereal, makes an soup creamier and better tasting and gives me energy

These are the guys I use. They are the experts and the original importer of it. They also use family farms (in Phillipines) and have been a pleasure to deal with.
They also have good sales.

Coconut oil for dogs?

Chelsea La

I used to give my GSD fish oil pills but for the past few months have not been giving them to her. I have noticed her coat is not as shiny - not a huge change or anything but something I've noticed nonetheless. Anyway, I've been looking into Coconut Oil for dogs. I think it's something we'd like to try however, I'm worried about her having very loose stools from adding this.

My question is regarding the Coconut oil. Has anyone that uses it for their dog experienced problems with loose stools or upset tummies? When I buy it I know it's just going to be a learning experience to see what happens but I didn't know if some sort of reaction to it was usual or not. Is it a good idea to build up to a tablespoon of it a day?

Thanks :)

Answer
I use it a couple of times per week with both of my dogs. One is a Doberman (70 lbs.) and the other a small Poodle mix/mutt that weighs abouut 15 lbs. I don't actually use any exact measurement, so I just eyeball it. Neither of my dogs have had any loose stools at all from this.

Since this stuff can be a pit pricey, let me give you a little tip. I don't have a Costo membership but my cousin does, so she gets me this......Carrington Farms.....pure, unrefined, cold pressed and 100% organic extra virgin coconut oil. The one I have is a 54 oz tub, which is pretty darn big, and I think it only costed about $15.00 or something close to that.

Coconut Oil?

Elvis

I have been reading a lot of info lately on the health benefits of coconut oil. Primarily using it to speed up metabolism and overall health. Does anyone else have any experience or knowledge about this?

Answer
You will need to get the right type. Most health food stores carry at least one brand and you can probably find it online.

There are two main types of coconut oil. One is refined coconut oil (might be labeled RBD for Refined, Bleached, and Deordorized). It is made from copra, or dried coconut meat, then treated to remove impurities. Most RBD coconut oil is relatively inexpensive. It does not contain all the nutrients found in unrefined coconut oil and in most cases the coconuts used are lof low quality and chemicals like chorine and hexane are used in the refining process.

The other type is Unrefined or "virgin" coconut oil and is made from fresh coconuts. hmmmm, sounds like the kind I would like best. I truly like coconut of anything. I want it to taste good and taste good to my dogs. I would go for the more expensive type.

Of course the better of the two is going to cost you more. Good-quality oil is colorless when liquid and pure white when solid, never yellow or pink and it should not contain residue or have an "off" or rancid odor. If you get hold of some coconut oil that gives you a scratchy throat or like a "catch" in the throat, this is probably a sign of poor quality. A smokey flavor or aroma is another indication of poor quality.

There are also hydrogenated and fractionated coconut oils. Hydrogenated coconut oil is not recommend because it contains harmful trans-fats. Fractionated coconut oil is a massage oil and aromatherapy ingredient and is sold as a cosmetic ingredient.

Where do you buy coconut oil?

remy

I'd like to know where you buy coconut oil. I prefer it to be organic/virgin/raw because i will be using it on my damaged hair/roots. THANKS!

OR

if you have any other advice for having healthier roots/hair, then please tell me.

Answer
coconut hair oil can be bought at H Mart or any indian store.. actually i think publix/kroger might have it too.

other techniques:
* Shampoo regularly. Remember, a CLEAN scalp is a HEALTHY SCALP.

* Brahmi amla oil also promotes hair growth.

* A high protein diet with plenty of fruits, green vegetables and dairy products is a must.

* Drink 10-12 glass of water everyday.

* Use a very mild shampoo and condition your hair at least twice a week. When you do, make sure you rinse out the conditioner thoroughly, otherwise residue build-up will cause your hair to look limp and dull.

* Know your vitamins! IRON is important for healthy hair and brittle, limp hair indicates an iron deficiency. Spinach has a good iron content, so gulp it down!

* ZINC helps prevent hair loss and greying. Eat adequate zinc rich foods. Overweight people tend to have zinc deficiency, which is inversely related to the body mass index. Thus if you are overweight and if your hair falls too much, you may want to increase your intake of zinc containing foods. Recipes containing stone ground, wholegrain flour are rich in zinc.

* A shortfall in VITAMIN B may cause dandruff, falling hair, loss of colour and could encourage grey hair. So B group Vitamins are essential for gloss, colour and thickness.

* VITAMIN C ensures the health of capillaries supplying blood to hair follicles. Make sure your diet includes plenty of fresh fruits and veggies.

* VITAMIN E encourages hair growth. Switch from refined flours to wholemeal and wheatgerm, eggs, vegetable oil.

* COPPER stops hair from falling. Studies show that the copper content in the blood serum of people with falling hair is less than normal. Different types of alopecia (falling hair) are seen to have a deficiency of this important trace element. Include small quantities of nuts, especially cashews and peanuts, seeds, whole milk and beans in your diet as these contain minute but important amounts of copper.

Homemade remedies for preventing hair fall:

1. Apply almond oil on scalp and massage.
2. Grind fenugreek seeds in water and apply on your scalp. Wash off after 40 minutes. Do this every morning for a month ¡V if it suits you! Remember, different treatments suit different types of hair.
3. Massage warm castor oil + almond oil into your scalp gently. Wrap a hot towel around your scalp so it gets absorbed into the hair. Do this twice a week for healthy, shiny hair.
4. Add 2-3 drops of honey to a glass of water and use this as the last rinse after shampooing.

Quick Hair Care Conditioner

Mix 1 egg, 2 tbs castor oil, 1 tsp vinegar and 1 tsp glycerine. Beat until frothy and massage lightly into your scalp. Wrap your head in a hot towel, steam, then wash off. This conditioner makes hair thicker, shiny, soft and manageable.

Honey Conditioner

Beat 1-2 eggs (depending on the length of the hair), 1 tsp honey and 2 tsp olive oil. Massage gently into the scalp. Steam, and shampoo after an hour.

Alcohol Conditioner

Beat 1-2 eggs with 2 tsp brandy. Massage into your scalp. Leave for 10-15 mins. Rinse well. The egg nourishes your hair and brandy stimulates hair growth.

Your hair is a vital beauty asset, requiring constant loving care. And with a little nurturing, lush, glossy hair will be yours.

Good luck mail me if you have any other questions (you can mail me from my avatar profile!

Why coconut oil is good for health ........?

SHIVA

Answer
Coconut oil consists of more than ninety percent of saturated fats (Don’t panic! First read to the last word.
* The Saturated Fatty Acids: Most of them are Medium Chain Triglycerides, which are supposed to assimilate well. Lauric Acid is the chief contributor, with more than forty percent of the share, followed by Capric Acid, Caprylic Acid, Myristic Acid and Palmitic.
* The Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids: Linoleic Acid.
* The Monounsaturated Fatty Acids: Oleic Acid.
* The Poly-phenols: Gallic Acid, which is phenolic acid. These poly-phenols are supposed to be responsible for the fragrance and the taste of Coconut Oil and Virgin Coconut Oil is rich in these poly-phenols.
* Certain derivatives of fatty acid like Betaines, Ethanolamide, Ethoxylates, Fatty Esters, Fatty Polysorbates, Monoglycerides and Polyol Esters.
* Fatty Chlorides, Fatty Alcohol Sulphate and Fatty Alcohol Ether Sulphate, all of which are derivatives of Fatty Alcohols.
* Vitamin-E and Vitamin K and minerals such as Iron.
Let us now explore the benefits of coconut oil in detail:
Hair Care:
Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shiny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.
Skin Care:
Coconut oil is excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles, and sagging of skin which normally become prominent with age. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Therefore coconut oil forms the basic ingredient of various body care products such as soaps, lotions, creams, etc., used for skin care. Coconut oil also helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties.
Heart Diseases:
There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for the heart. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats. However, coconut oil is beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. The saturated fats present in coconut oil are not harmful as it happens in case of other vegetables oils. It does not lead to increase in LDL levels. It also reduces the incidence of injury in arteries and therefore helps in preventing atherosclerosis.
Weight Loss
Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Further, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on pancreases, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who eat coconut oil daily as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.
Digestion
Internal use of coconut oil occurs primarily as cooking oil. Coconut oil helps in improving the digestive system and thus prevents various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. The saturated fats present in coconut oil have anti microbial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc., that cause indigestion. Coconut oil also helps in absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
Immunity:
Coconut oil is also good for the immune system. It strengthens the immune system as it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. It helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia.

How should I take coconut oil?

Toni_Baby

I'm tryna take 3 tbl spoons a day. Is it ok to mix it with stuff? I just took it out the jar. It was thick and not good lol...Will I still get the same benefits it has if I mix it with other foods. Like yogurt or something

Answer
How much coconut oil should you take ?

Researchers state that the optimal amount for an adult is between 3 and 4 tablespoons per day. This equates to the amount of medium chain fatty acids a nursing child would consume in one day from mother's milk. It is best to use coconut oil three times a day at meal times. We recommend that you begin with a smaller amount and build up to the recommended dosage if necessary.

Coconut oil is one of the most stable oils you can buy. It does not turn rancid easily. It does not attack your arteries. In fact, coconut oil was one of the foods Weston Price studied in his journeys. He discovered that the coconut was considered, by the local populations, a medicine food. He found that those civilizations that consumed coconut regularly had no knowledge of cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and diabetes.

Let’s take a look at the healing properties of coconut oil:

Coconut oil is antiviral, antifungal (kills yeast too) and antibacterial. It attacks and kills viruses that have a lipid (fatty) coating, such as herpes, HIV, hepatitis C, the flu, and mononucleosis. It kills the bacteria that cause pneumonia, sore throats, dental cavities, urinary tract infections, meningitis, gonorrhea, food poisoning, pneumonia, and many, many more bacterial infections. It kills the fungus/yeast infections that cause candida, ringworm, athletes foot, thrush, jock itch, diaper rash and more.
Coconut oil is called the "low fat" fat. It actually acts like a carbohydrate in that it is quickly broken down in the liver and used as quick energy. It is NOT stored like other fats. It boosts one’s energy and endurance. Many athletes use it blended into their drinks. It also supports thyroid function and increases your metabolism (great if you want to lose weight).
Coconut oil improves digestion and absorption of fat soluble vitamins, minerals (especially calcium and magnesium), and amino acids. It improves the body’s use of blood glucose and improves insulin secretion and absorption (great for type II diabetes). In fact, many diabetics (type I and type II) use it to reduce their symptoms. One’s risk of diabetes decreases with regular use of coconuts and coconut oil. And as we already mentioned, cooking with coconut oil does not create any harmful byproducts.
Coconut oil helps the body heal and repair faster. It aids and supports immune function, protecting us from a variety of cancers.
Coconut oil, contrary to much hubbub, is good for your heart. It keeps our blood platelets from sticking together (and causing dangerous clots). Regular users of coconut oils have a much lower chance of atherosclerosis (clogging of the arteries), arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), and strokes. Coconut oil can lower your blood pressure.
Coconut oil is a natural antioxidant. It protects the body from free radical damage and prevents premature aging and degenerative diseases.
Finally, coconut oil is the best massage oil on the planet. What it does to your skin, you simply have to witness. It forms a barrier against infections, softens and moisturizes your skin, and prevents wrinkling, sagging, and age spots. It promotes healthy hair and complexion, protects from any damaging UV rays.

Olive oil or coconut for skin?

Q. Which is better

Answer
DHC has a great olive oil product line that is not greasy.

Olive leaf extract from olive oil has great regenerative effects on the skin.

Cocoa butter with vitamin e is the best, however, for scars and stretch marks, wrinkle prevention and skin discoloration.

Using cocobutter is simple: You can never put too much on, because it is mostly water. The water will evaporate off your skin when your body as absorbed enough. It's like self timing moisture.

Depending on what your skin type is, olive oil is Awesome! It is not greasy when applied properly. You can mix the olive oil with bottled water (in a dark painted bottle, the oil shouldn't be stored in the light, it will become rancid and mix in some jasmine or rose oil, camelia oil, your favorite perfume, squirt a bit in there. You will have a home made oil that is great for after bath/shower like Neutragena's sesame oil (which smells great, but does affect the skin as quickly as olive oil).

If you have scars, stretch marks, acne marks, etc, this can get rid of them:

Cleanse the area.
(Exfoliate instead, three times a week)
Tone, Loreal makes a great Daily Use Toner. Heaven!
Moisturize as directed above.

You will see results within 4 days.
2 weeks a whole new texture.
4 months, you will have to take a picture of before and AFTER to appreciate every single bit of improvement, because you won't believe it!

Have a fantastic day!

ok this ones got me baffled. ive been taking coconut oil on and off for a few weeks for a gastrointestinal candida overgrowth at around 2tbsp a day, i had a mild die off, nothing that was too noticeble during first 2 week stage, and also took a high quality probiotic. ive stopped taking it since then and have recovered from die off... today i decided to take about 1TSP along with a good dosage of probiotics... and from about half an hour since i took the two up until im writing this question now, i have had a splitting headache and VERY mild sinus symptoms, (sneezing, runny nose, blockage, etc)... i dont understand why this time i took LESS i am feeling awful, but i do feel a slight increase in energy and well being at the same time as the symptoms i have at the moment... any advice or information?

Answer
I agree with DEVASTAT to use virgin coconut oil as lauric
acid and other nutrients are not reduced when oil is cold
pressed. Further you cannot take anything as you like i.e.
on and off for a few weeks. It should always be continous
for body's intelligence to accept the new addition of
probiotic and coconut oil. Stick to the program for 3 months
and you will see definite improvement inspite of any
short comings your body may throw up. Good luck and
God bless. Cheers! :o)

Aromatherapy Coconut?

amywynn217

I have sensitive allergies and 4 smelly dogs :) that are strictly inside animals; I am not allergic to them but I want a natural smell in my home that my allergies can tolerate. I've been to the Tommy Bahama's restaurant in The Woodlands, TX and love the smell of coconut or the mixture of pina colada mix or whatever it is they have. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to recreate that smell?

Answer
Coconut Oil doesn't really have a very strong smell. For Aromatherapy I would suggest using Thyme, Oregano, Rosewood, Frankenscense, and Cassia (Cinnamon) Oils. All of these are very powerful antimicrobial oils. Especially Oregano. Oregano is pretty safe and it can even be ingested as long as you do it wisely. But Coconut oil contains Caprylic Acid. And this acid is a very powerful antifungal agent. If I where you, I would simply take a few tablespoons of coconut oil everyday. I believe there is a link between candida and allergies and Coconut oil can destroy candida. But it isn't as effective as Oregano or Thyme. If you use the 100% pure Oregano Oil in a boiling pot of water, it will remove the smell from your house. There is no doubt about that.

is coconut oil good for people and dogs?

naturelady

Answer
Yes coconut oil is good for people and dogs. It is saturated fat, but it is nice and it is good for both people and animals. Coconut oils is natural. It has no additives. It is simply oil made out of coconut. It is made by grating the coconut, squeezing the milk out, then put it to set and then fry the crean that settles on top. It is nothing more than coconut.

Coconut oil can be used for cooking as well as can be drank in small amount for medicine with a little salt and lime added to it. It can also be used for other medicine like for cough and cut or injuries by adding campher to it.

I've used coconut oil for all these things and it works very well. I've used it on dogs, cats and birds as medicines and in their foods.

Hope I helped.

Help, yeast infection?

Claire Mac

Well I have that white clumpy stuff or w/e coming out, and sometimes it's not as clumpy, and sometimes it's a little yellow... and it smells pretty bad, but I have no itching or burning, but sometimes it gets a little irritating.

Please help, respond accordingly.

Answer
Hi there,

It sounds to be a yeast infection. If you've suffered from this for a long time I would definitely look into Candida as anyone who suffers from Chronic Yeast infections has Candida as well. You can check out my bio box for a free test you can take to determine if you have Candida.

There are many things you need to start doing and addressing if you are suffering from a yeast infection. To start, do the following:

1. Wear loose clothing and undergarments, oxygen kills yeast, going commando and wearing nothing down there if possible is even better.

2. Get some unsweetened yogurt and rub it onto a tampon, insert the tampon and do this continually until the yeast infection is gone.

3. Cut out any and all sugar, alcohol and yeast from your diet. All three will promote the infection further.

4. Start drinking cranberry juice, pure not from concentrate with no added sugar, I know this goes against the no sugar thing but the acid content in the cranberries will alter the PH balance of your vagina and cause the yeast to die off.

5. If you can tolerate it, use a raw garlic clove and apply it to the infection, this may burn so dilute it with some olive or coconut oil, both of which can also help eliminate the yeast, especially the coconut.

6. You can also try taking some vitamin B3, many women find their infections resolve quicker when they are taking 300mg/per day.

7. Take a probiotic with at least 50 billion live cells per pill, this is key in redistributing good bacteria throughout your body, and effectively end the yeast infection. You must do this continually until you have eliminated your yeast infections and Candida entirely.

8. Lastly if all else fails, begin adding 2 cups of apple cider vinegar to a bath. Only fill the tub up high enough to submerge your genital area. Stay in the tub for 20-30 minutes at a time.

Hope this helps, the yogurt is the key really, by putting good bacteria directly on the area you will eliminate it quickly. Make sure it is unsweetened and ideally keep an eye out for a variation called Kefir which has even more beneficial bacteria in it to snuff out the infection.

When all is said and done I would suggest you research Candida and take a test to determine if you are suffering from it, as anyone who gets yeast infections has Candida, it's just a matter of how bad it is.

Supposedly olive and coconut oils daily are good to ingest. How much, and what are the benefits?

Crystal

Answer
Coconut oil lowers cholesterol if it is high and raises it if it is too low. Coconut oil is unique in its ability to prevent weight-gain or cure obesity, by stimulating the metabolism. It is quickly metabolized, and functions in some ways as an antioxidant. Every study using natural, unprocessed coconut oil found a normalizing of cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure. This is also true of extra virgin olive oil, peanut oil and avocado oil.

Within a week, abnormal cortisol levels show improvement indicating adrenal restoration using vitamin B1, B complex and coconut milk. Patients seem more awake, their mood, energy and memory improves, and sleep becomes more normal.

Coconut oil is anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal in the originating plant, in our gut and in our blood. Reducing seed oil consumption and using coconut milk or coconut oil as the dietary staple is reversing viral loads in HIV, eliminating all types of herpes virus and reducing or preventing other viral diseases including the yearly 'flus' and measles. The antiviral effect seems to be against lipid-enveloped viruses and is due to the presence of lauric acid in coconut oil.

In animal studies, feeding unprocessed coconut and coconut oils prevented tumor development, both malignant or benign.

The coconut oil or coconut milk must be un-preserved.

Equivalents are:

2-3 tablespoons of the unprocessed coconut oil daily.
1/3 can of the coconut milk twice a day -
(5 ounces twice a day).
1/2 coconut steeped, mashed and eaten daily

Coconut milk is not the juice from the inside of a young coconut. That thin liquid is called coconut water. Coconut milk is made by steeping the coconut and scraping out the meat, adding just enough water to simmer and mashing the end product into a thick, milky substance called coconut milk.

When choosing a brand of canned coconut milk, select the one with the highest fat content for the price

What does it do? How come there's so many kind of oils for your skin to use? Like Almond oil, Olive oil, Coconut oil, Tea tree oil, ect.......

But what does Coconut oil do for your skin? Where can I find it?

Answer
Coconut oil is excellent as a skin moisturiser. A study shows that extra virgin coconut oil is as effective and safe as mineral oil when used as a moisturiser, with absence of adverse reactions [6].

Coconut oil can also help in healing Keratosis pilaris by moisturising the effected area. The coconut oil should be applied in the shower, and may cause the KP bumps to disappear.

In India, coconut oil is used as an oil for styling hair.

-------------------------------------------

For skincare, using coconut oil as you would any lotion is ideal. It prevents destructive free-radical formation. It can help to keep the skin from developing liver spots and other blemishes caused by aging and overexposure to sunlight. It helps to prevent sagging and wrinkling by keeping connective tissues strong and supple. The oil is absorbed into the skin and into the cell structure of the connective tissues, limiting the damage excessive sun exposure can cause.

Coconut oil will not only bring temporary relief to the skin, but it will aid in healing and repairing. It will have lasting benefits, unlike most lotions. It can help bring back a youthful appearance. Coconut oil can aid in removing the outer layer of dead skin cells, making the skin smoother. The skin becomes more evenly textured with a healthy "shine". And coconut oil will penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and strengthen the underlying tissues.

To obtain all of coconut oil's health and weight loss benefits, 30 mls per day is recommended for adults.

tattoo leaking ink?

Liam

i have no idea if castor oil and new tattoos mix. My tattoo is about a day old. I put this all natural jelly on the area. It's made from castor oil, coconut oil, and Vitamin E. That's all no artificial ingredients. I covered the area in a loose shirt and took it off and the some ink got absorbed into it (!!!!). And then I put some more ointment/jelly on the tattoo and then it has started leaking ink badly.... I'm terrified that I really messed my tattoo up. Any Advice? I'm still waiting to hear back from my tattoo artist...

Answer
you said a lot of ink was leaking out...you need to make sure that your jelly doesn't have bactrian in it. any ointment that is made for cuts will try to pull the ink out because your tattoo is essentially an open wound. just because your jelly is all natural, that doesnt mean a thing. even natural ingredients can harm your tatt.

no neosporin or triple anti biotic ointment! your best bet is diaper rash cream. not kidding...it will heal it beautifully.

tattoo issue??? please help....?

Madison 3:

i got my first tattoo last year in december. Everything seemed great and the healing happened quickly. i was fine and nothing bothered me. then one day(for about a month now i have this) i noticed white dots on my ink. they don't itch...they don't hurt. they are just there. they come and go but mostly they are there all the time for the past month. they don't cover the whole tat. they are on the sides of it(its on my arm and its a big tattoo..it took 4 hours). what is with these dots? is it just something that will pass? im going to get a background added to it soon. but in the meantime i was curious if i should worry about this. i havnt been putting lotion because i didn't really need it. i know i should be but i wasn't sure if i should being i had these dots. i don't want to pop them...they are really tiny.
i don't think it's because he missed anything. believe me this thing is packed with shading and color and very well done. and sometimes those dots go away and there is my regular tattoo. no missed colors or anything.

Answer
I think it's just dry skin. I've had the same thing happen to mine. You could try putting coconut oil on your tattoo, that'll keep it moisturised and supple :)

What are the benifits of coconut oil?

Karen Lope

Answer
Coconut oil has done wonders for the way I feel and has also helped lower my blood sugar. I won’t speak for everyone and I suggest you consult you doctor before you try any of these oils.

Diabetes

This is one fat that diabetics can eat without fear. Not only does it not contribute to diabetes, but it helps regulate blood sugar, thus lessening the effects of the disease. Island people have consumed large amounts of coconut oil for many generations without ever encountering diabetes, but when they abandoned it for other foods and oils, the results were disastrous.

Weight Loss

The connection between coconut oil and weight loss is interesting. Farmers in America discovered this early last century when they tried to fatten their cattle by feeding them coconut oil. Instead of gaining weight, their cattle lost weight! So again, this is not news. Do a simple Internet search such as “benefits of coconut oil” and you will get plenty of details.

Bone and Dental Health

Coconut oil improves calcium and magnesium absorption in the body, which in turn is greatly beneficial to dental and bone health. The improved calcium absorption created by coconut oil use ceases tooth decay and aids in the development of strong teeth. The combined increased calcium and magnesium absorption are of great benefit to middle-aged women who may become afflicted with osteoporosis.

Coconut Oil: A Good Saturated Fat?

You may ask, isn't coconut oil a saturated fat? And aren't saturated fats harmful? Yes, coconut oil consists of 90% saturated fats. But whether or not saturated fats are harmful depends on who you ask. Among mainstream nutritionists, the idea that saturated fats cause heart disease is an “absolute truth” that is never questioned. Those who question this belief, however, point out that mankind has been consuming mainly saturated fats – in the form of butter, lard, coconut oil, etc – for thousands of years, yet heart disease was rare before the 1920s. If anything, the rise of heart disease in recent decades may correspond to the increasing use of polyunsaturated vegetable oils like corn, safflower and canola, as well as margarine.
...........thank you ...........!!!!

Are animal fats saturated or unsaturated?

alice

Answer
Both. Lard in particular is about 43% saturated fat. Beef tallow is a bit higher than that (55ish% I think). Not sure about milk fat, but I know butter is about 70% saturated fat (still lower than coconut at 90% though). Point of reference, olive oil is about 14% saturated fat.

PS: Saturated fat is actually good for you. It helps keep your arteries supple so they can withstand the constant stretching and shrinking of pumping your blood. Most people eat too much though... really the bigger issue is hydrogenated oils. That's super ew.

Coconut Oil?

What Are The Benefits Of Coconut Oil?

sobe_merma

I love the smell of it and wanted to know what I can do with it. I have heard is is good for tanning and hair remedies...

Answer
You could consume it

This is coconut oil that is derived from fresh coconuts, not copra, and has not undergone the RBD (refined, bleached, deodorized) process that refined coconut oil derived from copra goes through.

Almost all of the "unrefined" coconut oils on the market being marketed as "Virgin" are produced one of two ways:

1. Quick drying of fresh coconut meat which is then used to press out the oil. Using this method, the coconut meat is quick dried, and the oil is then pressed out via mechanical means.
2. Wet-milling. With this method the oil is extracted from fresh coconut meat without drying first. "Coconut milk" is expressed first by pressing. The oil is then further separated from the water. Methods which can be used to separate the oil from the water include boiling, fermentation, refrigeration, enzymes and mechanical centrifuge.

Unlike olive oil, there is no world or governing body that sets a standard definition or set of guidelines to classify coconut oil as "virgin." but the Philippines being the largest producer/exporter has recently established a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) governmental standard see: PNS for VCO.

What type of formula is best?

Q. Does anyone know what type of formula is best and why? thanks :)

Answer
About choosing formulas from a doctor.

http://www.askdrsears.com/html/0/T000100.asp#T031003
CHOOSING FORMULA
When it comes to infant formula, parents need to know a few simple facts:

Be sure to choose a DHA-enriched formula. Most, if not all of the US formula companies will offer AA/DHA-enriched formulas. For information about the brain-building benefits of DHA click on www.Store.Martek.com.

There are some subtle differences among the major brands of infant formulas which may affect how your baby tolerates one formula over another. Reading the labels may leave you feeling like you need a Ph.D in biochemistry to make an intelligent decision. We want to help you with an analysis of the big three nutrients: proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. The vitamins and minerals in all formulas are similar, since these are governed by strict regulations, however, the nutritional fine points of the fats, carbohydrates, and proteins differ from one brand to another, as the marketing departments of each company are very willing to point out, especially to pediatricians.

STANDARD FORMULAS
Standard formulas are those that are tolerated by most infants. Infants with special digestive needs require special formulas. Here are some guidelines on how standard formulas differ and how to match the formula to your baby's needs.

Comparing proteins. In looking at the protein content of the big three brands (Similac , Enfamil, and Carnation), you will notice the main difference is in the whey/casein ratio. In recent years there seems to be a whey war going on among formula makers, and each company has its own semi-scientific rationale as to why their product is best. Carnation contains 100 percent whey, claiming that the cow's milk casein used in other brands, unlike the casein in human milk, forms difficult-to-digest curds that contribute to constipation. As an added perk, Carnation predigests the whey, breaking the protein up into smaller particles which are supposed to be easier for a baby to digest.

Enfamil promotes a 60/40 whey-to-casein ratio similar to human milk. Actually, a 70/30 whey/casein ratio is more typical of human milk, and the whey content of some human milk can be as high as 80 percent. Similac has always claimed that casein was the best protein, and for many years Similac formulas were 82 percent casein and 18 percent whey. In recent years, Similac has "improved" on this, and now boasts 48 percent whey and 52 percent casein. How much of this is science, how much is market pressure, and how many other factors are involved is hard to say. A consumer might conclude that Similac isn't sure about the optimal protein composition and seems to be going along with the whey crowd, but not as far as Carnation. Similac backs up their protein choice with studies showing the amino acid profile in the blood of Similac-fed infants is similar to the amino acid profile in the blood of breastfed infants. Unlike the manufacturers of Carnation and Enfamil who claim their formulas are most like human milk "on paper," Ross, the maker of Similac, has departed from this way of thinking and formulates their protein based on what actually gets into baby's blood, not what is listed on the can. This approach seems to have more scientific merit. Until this whey war is settled, let your baby's own digestion system be the guide.

Comparing fats. The label tells you that the fat in all artificial baby milks comes from vegetable oils. There is no acceptable alternative source, though long ago some infant formulas were made with lard. The five types of vegetable oils that are used are palm olein (not to be confused with saturated palm or palm kernel oil), soy, coconut, safflower, and sunflower. The different blends of these oils all have percentages of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fatty acids similar to breastmilk, though some rely more on one oil than another. Sunflower oil, for example, is extremely high in monounsaturates, whereas safflower is high in polyunsaturates. Formula companies claim that regardless of the source of the fat, as long as the final blend yields a fatty acid profile similar to human milk it's okay for babies. Enfamil has even published a study showing that their product has a fatty acid profile similar to that of breastmilk. Actually, comparing the fat profile of human milk with the fat blends of formulas is more difficult than it seems because the fat content of human milk changes with the age of the baby and from feeding to feeding. The fat blend of formulas tries to match an "average" fat profile for human milk (whatever that means).

Of all the nutrients in formulas, the fatty acid profile is the most concerning. While formula fat does contain the two essential omega acids, linoleic and linolenic, it does not have any DHA , the fatty acid vital for brain development. Up until recently, researchers believed that infants could make DHA from these essential fatty acids as adults do, but recent studies have shown that formula-fed infants don't have the same high DHA levels that breastfed infants do. Babies may need a supply of DHA ready-made. This biochemical infant quirk has caused a lot of controversy among formula manufacturers as to whether or not to add DHA. As it stands now, the DHA precursors, linoleic and linolenic acids, are there, but they are not as biochemically active as they are in breastmilk. In Europe, additional DHA fatty acids are added to artificial baby milks, and some nutritionists believe that without added DHA, American babies are currently fed formulas that have a fatty acid deficiency. Many researchers attribute the intellectual advantages of breastfeeding that are showing up in new studies to DHA. For the most updated information on DHA in infant formulas, see www.Store.Martek.com.

Another problem with the current fat blends is they don't contain any cholesterol . On the surface this may sound like a nutriperk, yet we are once again tampering with Mother Nature. Human milk is sort of a medium-cholesterol diet, like all animal milks. The absence of cholesterol is another reason for concern in artificial baby milks.

Carbohydrate comparisons. Similac and Enfamil are practically the same in carbohydrate content, both containing only lactose. Carnation, on the other hand, contains 70 percent lactose and 30 percent malto-dextrin, a table-sugar- like carbohydrate that is, according to the manufacturers, necessary to balance the biochemical properties of the whey.

Let baby be the judge. With current knowledge, it's impossible to rate one formula higher than another, and they're all likely to change with time. While the three main brands seem to be nutritionally similar, it all comes down to which formula works better in your baby's intestines.

Iron-fortified formulas. You will notice at the store that both Enfamil and Similac produce iron-fortified formulas and formulas that are lower in iron. In our opinion, and that of the Committee on Nutrition of the American Academy of Pediatrics, low-iron formulas have no place in infant nutrition. Carnation does not make a low iron formula, but only one formulation that contains the recommended amount of iron similar to that in the other two formulas.

(There is a chart so go click on the link)

FOLLOW-UP FORMULAS
A new trend in artificial baby milk, popular in Europe and now on the shelves in U.S. supermarkets, is formula designed for the infant older than six months and are meant to be a bridge between regular formula and cow's milk, which should not be introduced until some time after age one. Two questions arise about follow-up formulas: are they nutritious and are they necessary? The rationale for follow-up formulas is that the nutritional needs of infants greatly increase after the age of six months (especially for calcium, iron, and protein), and some infants may have difficulty meeting these increased requirements with greater volumes of standard formula, plus solid foods. The following discussion concerns Carnation Follow-up Formula. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of follow-up formula.
Advantages:
•Contains more calcium. From six months to a year the RDA for calcium in infants increases by fifty percent, from 400 milligrams to 600 milligrams. Carnation Follow-up formula contains 600 milligrams of calcium in 24 ounces. It would take 39 ounces a day of standard formula to meet these calcium requirements.
•Contains more iron. From six to twelve months a baby's daily iron requirements increase from six milligrams to ten milligrams a day. This extra iron could be supplied in 26 ounces of follow-up formula or 27 to 33 ounces of standard formula, so there isn't a great advantage to the follow-up formula here.
•Contains more protein. From six to twelve months an infant requires an extra three to four milligrams of protein a day. Follow-up formulas contain from 10 to 25 percent more protein. A baby would need an extra three to eight ounces of standard formula per day to get this extra protein.
•Costs less. The cost is around 20 percent less than the price of regular formula.
•May taste better. Because it is basically milk, it tastes more like milk.
Disadvantages:
•Casein/whey ratio different from human milk. Basically, Carnation Good Start Follow-up is like the older version of Similac: 82 percent casein and 18 percent whey, plus calcium and a newer fat blend.
•Sweetened with corn syrup. The rationale for replacing lactose in the milk with corn syrup is to get it to taste sweeter. In our opinion, using corn syrup as the prime milk-carbohydrate source in an infant under a year is nutritionally unwise. Besides insuring proper nutrition, one of the main goals in feeding an infant over six months is to shape young tastes toward the normal taste of fresh foods. Corn syrup is a sweetener and certainly shouldn't be part of a food babies eat several times each day. Our conclusion: we do not recommend follow-up formulas that contain corn syrup. They are nutritionally unwise and unnecessary. Better to give your baby a higher volume of standard formula (growing babies need more fluid anyway), plus calcium and iron-containing solid foods.

how to control diabetes type 2 from medicine..?

Answer
Diabetes mellitus should be controlled by diet, exercise, medications including insuline and diabetic education.
* Avoid single high concentrated meals.
* Small frequent meals.
* Food high in fibre content like vegetables, whole pulses, fruits, etc.
Ideal combination of diabetic diet should be:--
Carbohydrates: 55-60%.
Fat: 30%.
Proteins: 15-20% (0.8g /kg /body wt).
Fibres 40 g/day.

DIABETIC DIET
Do not eat at all:--
Sugar, jam, syrups, honey, sweets, chocolates, fruit juices, ice creams, cold drinks, glucose drinks, cakes and pastries, sweet biscuits, puddings and protein powder with sugar.
Eat in moderation:--

Mother of Pearl Cream for Psoriasis?

`.װ

I have psoriasis of the face, scalp and neck that didn't start until I was 18ish. I am 22 now and it just started getting super bad! I have been trying a bunch of different things, including creams from the doctor and most stuff makes it worse. A few things I have tried make it better for a little while but it doesn't last, even though I am still using the stuff. My fiancee who is from Honduras, swears by this stuff called Crema de Concha Nacar aka Mother of Pearl Cream... I heard that 100% pure extra virgin Coconut Oil clears up Psoriasis in days and prevents it from coming back. Saturday I went out and bought some, not realizing that he went out and bough me the Mother of Pearl cream. He was begging me and begging me to try it and I was like "fine" since I hadn't tried the coconut oil yet. I put it on yesterday and my skin FELT better (less itchy/painful) and the redness reduced a little but the patches of dry seemed to look harder i guess u could say? And this morning I was super itchy and he told me to keep using the concha nacar because it takes a few days to start working. I read online that it is mostly for acne scars and anti-aging.. which makes me nervous cause stuff for acne and anti-aging usually irritates my skin. He said it will work in 4 days and to just trust him.. Should I wait or should I just start using the coconut oil?

Answer
My father has severe Psoriasis and I just gave a presentation on this in my Esthetics class last week. Psoriasis is an auto-immune disorder so be careful what you are eating. I would stay away from beef, chicken & pork since those are the 3 biggest meat sources from our delightful Factory Farms. They are pumped with antibiotics and even Dr. Oz had a show a couple of weeks ago and revealed that no one really knows how many antibiotics chickens are given. They are however resistant to the top 5 antibiotics on the market.
If you are auto-immune that means that when a foreign antigen is introduced to your body, your natural antibodies come out to take care of that PLUS good cells... killing them too. So, just be careful what animal products you ingest (including cow's milk).

Turmeric is a well known treatment for Psoriasis and I want to let you know about Protandim (oral supplement with Turmeric, Bacopa, Milk Thistle, Green Tea, & Ashwagandha). ABC PrimeTime did a special on it and this company also has a skin cream with all these ingredients + some.

http://www.mylifevantage.com/helpyourbodyhelpitself/default.aspx

If you go to the top right of the page, you'll see "TrueTV", there you will find the video of Dr. Kimberly Stone presenting True Science Anti-Aging Cream and she also talks about the benefits for Psoriasis. I have not yet started my father on this because I just found this company and have been taking Protandim for a couple of weeks now but I will definitely be getting this for him (my kids too - both type 1 diabetics)... I believe in the facts and I hope you will find this helpful.

What kind of products can i use with my hair?HELP ME!!!?

tarasu

I have really really curly thick kinky hair. my moms white and my dads black so my hair is very difficult to deal with. my dove intense damage shampoo and conditioner makes my hair really springy and tight so i can either use a pick and have a fro of use some sort of spray or cream to make it go down. I'm really tired of my fro and i want my hair to be soft smooth and obedient. i need something to weight the curls down or something can anyone help???

Answer
I have a fro too and i love it!!! But when I want to change it up to make it more manageable I usually make my own natural hair products. I have tons of recipes. If u want to you can email me I can send you some that has worked for my hair texture. First of allThe hair products you should put into your hair should be non alcohol based because the alcohol dries your hair. Try using non alcohol styling gel. I love using African Essence Protein STYLING GEL because it is non-flaking,has superior hold & shine, non-alcohol, and protein-enriched. It works wonders on my hair being that it is natural,(not containing any chemicals) and it allows you to shape and condition your hair while holding it in place.Creates the look you want without sticky build-up or drying out your hair. Apply it while your hair is wet.Its only $2.75 for a 32oz jar.(Very cheap!!!) Or you can use Curls Goddess Glaze and Curl Soufflé which is especially made for naturally curly hair, which i use the kids' product for my daughter. The Curls Goddess Glaze is a frizz fighting, curl enhancing, shine promoting botanical gel is fragrance free therefore is great for layering over or under your favorite styler. It works great as a stand alone gel also. The Curl Soufflee' textured cream defrizzes, defines and holds curls while locking in moisture. Great for thicker hair textures. For best results, apply evenly, section by section. Whats even greater is that these are non alcohol based products and made of more natural ingredients like organic sunflower oil, organic aloe leaf juice, and shea butter!! You may use some of their other natural hair products because they will be of great benefit as well- I have! Even though its a little more pricier-TRUST ME its worth it!! I hope I have proven to be of great help!!!!!!!! Oh PLEASE do not put chemical straightners in your hair the chemicals are really not healthy for you or your hair! Yes, our hair is not like the ordinary caucasian girl, but God blessed us with such an original kind of hair that you cannot find just in any one why would we want to go out of our way to put something that dangerous on our head. (Chemicals)

Also those shampoos like Dove intense shampoo are not really good shampoos for our hair texture. This is because it contains sodium laureth sulfate. If you read the label u will notice that ingredient. That ingredient dries our hair texture. I like using Dr. Bronner's 18-in-1 Hemp Castile Soap. It comes in different scents like peppermint, lavender(my fav) and i forgot the other scent. Its all natural with ingredients such as water, organic coconut oil, olive oil with glycerin, organic hemp oil, organic jojoba oil ,organic lanvender oil and vitamin E.You can buy it at GNC or Whole Foods Market and its about 14.00 for a 32 oz bottle and it leaves my hair feeling well conditioned and clean not dry and brittle. Or you can make your own shampoo at home. I can also send u that recipe if you would like.
Most of the commercially available hair care products today use harmful, potentially carcinogenic ingredients. In the interest of good napptural health, I list below, what are in my opinion, the 10 worst commonly found product ingredients thngs you can put on your hair (and body). Check the list of ingredients on your hair products. The more of a particular ingredient you have in a product, the closer it is to the top of the list of ingredients on the bottle:

1. ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL: This is a solvent and denaturant (poisonous substance that changes another substances natural qualities). Isopropyl alcohol is found in hair color rinses, body rubs, hand lotions, after-shave lotions, fragrances and many other cosmetics. This petroleum-derived substance is also used in antifreeze and as a solvent in shellac. Napptural hair reacts very badly to isoalcohol and this ingredient should be avoided at ALL costs. It will dry your hair out and break it off. According to A Consumer's Dictionary of Cosmetic Ingredients, inhalation or ingestion of the vapor may cause headaches, flushing, dizziness, mental depression, nausea, vomiting, narcosis and even coma.

2. MINERAL OIL & PETROLATUM: The best baby oil is made from almonds. But the oil which being sold as baby oil is 100% mineral oil. Mineral oil is a derivative of crude oil (petroleum) that is used industrially as a cutting fluid and lubricating oil. This commonly used petroleum ingredient coats the skin and hair just like plastic wrap. The skin's natural barrier is disrupted as this plastic coating inhibits its ability to breathe and absorb the Natural Moisture Factor (moisture and nutrition). The skin's ability to release toxins and wastes is impossible through this "plastic wrap," which can promote acne and other disorders. It further hinders normal skin respiration/transpiration by keeping oxygen out. This process slows down skin function and normal cell development causing the skin to prematurely age. Holding in large a mounts of moisture in the skin can "flood" the biology and may result in immature, unhealthy, sensitive skin that dries out easily. Petrolatum - A petroleum-based grease that is used industrially as a grease component. Petrolatum exhibits many of the same potentially harmful properties as mineral oil.
Honestly, this stuff belongs in your engine, not on your hair. Regardless of "Well, my Grandma used vaseline on her hair and it grew ", the bottom line is this stuff is bad. It was bad for Grandma and it is bad for you. Period.

3. PEG: This is an abbreviation for polyethylene glycol that is used in making cleansers to dissolve oil and grease as well as thicken products. Because of their effectiveness, PEG's are often used in caustic spray on oven cleaners and yet are found in many personal care products. PEG's contribute to stripping the Natural Moisture Factor, leaving the immune system vulnerable. They are also potentially carcinogenic.

4. PROPYLENE GLYCOL (PG): As a "surfactant" or wetting agent and solvent, this ingredient is actually the active component in antifreeze. There is no difference between the PG used in industry and the PG used in personal care products. It is used in industry to break down protein and cellular structure (what the skin is made of) yet is found in most forms of make-up, hair products, lotions, after-shave, deodorants, mouthwashes and toothpaste. It is also used in food processing. Because of its ability to quickly penetrate the skin, the EPA requires workers to wear protective gloves, clothing and goggles when working with this toxic substance. The Material Safety Data Sheets warn against skin contact, as PG has systemic consequences such as brain, liver and kidney abnormalities. Consumers are not protected nor is there a warning label on products such as stick deodorants, where the concentration is greater than that in most industrial applications.

5. SODIUM LAURYL SUFATE (SLS) & SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES): SLS is used in testing labs as the standard ingredient to irritate skin. Used as detergents and surfactants, these closely related compounds are found in car wash soaps, garage floor cleaners and engine degreasers. Yet both SLS and SLES are used more widely as one of the major ingredients in cosmetics, toothpaste, hair conditioner and about 90% of all shampoos and products that foam. They are used in personal-care products because they are cheap. A small amount generates a large amount of foam, and when salt is added it thicken to give the illusion of being thick and concentrated. (SOME OF THE NITROSATING AGENTS ARE: SLS, SLES, DEA, TEA, MEA). Shampooing the hair with a product contaminated with these substances can lead to its absorption into the body at levels much higher than eating nitrite-contaminated foods.
Mark Fearer in an article, Dangerous Beauty, says, "...in tests, animals that were exposed to SLS experienced eye damage, along with depression, labored breathing, diarrhea, severe skin irritation and corrosion and death." According to the American College of Toxicology states both SLS and SLES can cause malformation in children's eyes. Other research has indicated SLS may be damaging to the immune system, especially within the skin. Skin layers may separate and inflame due to its protein denaturing properties. It is possibly the most dangerous of ad ingredients in personal care products. Research has shown that SLS when combined with other chemicals can be transformed into nitrosamines, a potent class of carcinogens, which causes the body to absorb nitrates at higher levels than eating nitrate contaminated food." According to the American College of Toxicity report, "SLS stays in the body for up to five days..." Other studies have indicated that SLS easily penetrates through the skin and enters and maintains residual levels in the heart, the liver, the lungs and the brain. This poses serious questions regarding its potential health threat through its use in shampoos, cleansers and toothpaste,"
Studies show its danger potential to be great when used in personal-care products. Toxicity - A serious problem with these chemicals is that they may be contaminated with NDELA (N-nitrosodiethanolamine), one of the nitrosamines and a potent carcinogen, according to a 1978 FDA report.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) - SLES is the alcohol form (ethoxylated) of SLS. It is slightly less irritating than SLS, but may be more drying. Both SLS and SLES can enter the blood stream. They may cause potentially carcinogenic formations of nitrates and dioxins to form in shampoos and cleansers by reacting with other product ingredients. Large amounts of nitrates may enter the blood system from just one shampooing. Contains ether.

6. CHLORINE: According to Doris J. Rapp, M.D., author of Is This your Child's World? exposure to chlorine in tap water, Showers, pool, laundry products, cleaning agents, food processing, sewage systems and many others, can effect health by contributing to asthma, hay fever, anemia, bronchitis, circulatory collapse, confusion, delirium diabetes, dizziness, irritation of the eye, mouth, nose throat, lung, skin and stomach, heart disease, high blood pressure and nausea. It is also a possible cause of cancer. Even though you will not see Chlorine on personal care product labels, it is important for you to be aware of the need to protect your skin when bathing and washing your hair.

7. DEA (diethanolamine) MEA (momoethnanolamine) TEA (triethanolamine): DEA and MEA are usual listed on the ingredients label in conjunction with the compound being neutralized. Thus look for names like Cocamide DEA or MES, Lauramide DEA, etc. These are hormone disrupting chemicals and are known to form cancer causing nitrates and nitrosamines. . These are commonly found in most personal care products that foam, including bubble baths, body washes, shampoos, soaps and facial cleansers. On the show, CBS This Morning, Roberta Baskin revealed that a recent government report shows DEA and MEA are readily absorbed in the skin. Dr. Samuel Epstein, Professor of Environmental Health at the University of Illinois said "repeated skin applications of DEA-based detergents resulted in a major increase in the incidence of two cancers - liver and kidney cancers." John Bailey, who oversees the cosmetic division for the FDA said the new study is especial important since "the risk equation changes significantly for children."

8. FD & C Color PIGMENTS: Many color pigments cause skin sensitivity and irritation. Absorption of certain colors can cause depletion of oxygen in the body and even death according to A Consumer's dictionary of Cosmetic Ingredients. Debra Lynn Dadd says in Home Safe Home: "Colors that can be used in foods, drug, and cosmetics are made from coal tar. There is a great deal of controversy about their use, because animal studies have shown almost all of them to be carcinogenic."

9. FRAGRANCE: Fragrance is present in most deodorants shampoos, sunscreens, skin care, body care and baby products. Many of the compounds in fragrance are carcinogenic or otherwise toxic. "Fragrance on a label can indicate the presence of up to 4,000 separate ingredients. Most or all of them are synthetic. Symptoms reported to the FDA have included headaches, dizziness, rashes, skin discoloration, violent coughing and vomiting, and allergic skin irritation. Clinical observation by medical doctors have shown that exposure to fragrances can affect the central nervous system, causing depression, hyperactivity, irritability, inability to cope, and other behavioral changes," (Home Safe Home).
For better health try purchasing unscented products and for fragrance, adding a natural essential oil.

10. IMIDAZOLIDINYL UREA and DMDM HYDANTOIN: These are just two of the many preservatives that release formaldehyde (formaldehyde-donors). According to the Mayo clinic, formaldehyde can irritate the respiratory system, cause skin reactions and trigger heart palpitations. Exposure to formaldehyde may cause joint pain, allergies, depression, headaches, chest pains, ear infections, Chronic fatigue, dizziness and loss of sleep. It can also aggravate coughs and colds and trigger asthma. Serious side effects include weakening of the immune system and cancer. Nearly all brands of skin, body and hair care, antiperspirants and nail polish found in stores contain formaldehyde-releasing ingredients.

Answer
Personally, I use Organic Rosehip Oil on my face every night. I order mine from www.rosabay.com. Rosehip oil benefits brown spots, premature aging, dry skin, burns, scars, etc. You can go to this website and read about the qualities of it or do a search on "benefits of rosehip oil". They also have a great line of body lotions, etc. Or, you can add the rosehip oil to your own favorite lotion. It is quite inexpensive and this oil from Rosabay seems to be superior to any other that I have found in the U.S. (Theirs comes from New Zeland.) I am 48 years old and people guess my age at 38-40. That is quite a compliment. Just to note, I have used this on my face for about a year now.
