coconut oil benefits?

Halle S

hey guys if you have used coconut oil can you tell me something about the below things? thanks so much??

~Hair &skin
~tanning
~weight loss
~firming skin

thank you SO much!!! also, can you tell me how to take the oil (not the capsules) if you cook with it (instead of using oil/butter), does it effect the taste of what you are cooking with?

thank you guys!!!!

Answer
Coconut oil doesn't add much of a taste to food, but adds a dreamy, sweet smell. It's great for tropical dishes! However, it is mostly saturated fat, so should be used in moderation. Certainly it is not a weight loss supplement. In one serving there are 14g of fat, 12.5 of which are saturated! Olive oil or vegetable oil would be a healthier alternative.

As for hair and skin, it's great for both. I use it as a facial and body moisturizer once a week and it works wonders even on sensitive, dry skin like mine. As for firming skin, I have not seen any research, but most research on cosmetic issues like that are completely unreliable anyway. Having fat in your diet is good for your hair, but applying it straight to your hair will leave it greasy.

Tanning....well, I don't tan ( counterproductive to the skin health issues) so I can't say.
Hope that helped a little :)

coconut oil....which benefits your skin and hair more???

Q. to put a teaspoon on your skin ORR to actually eat a teaspoon of it everyday??

Answer
BOTH! Coconut oil (100% virgin coconut oil) is extremely great for the hair and skin, for so many different reasons. Coconut oil used as a supplement or as a cooking oil, are not only good for your skin and hair but offer many other GREAT health benefits as well. There is a lot of info about coconut oil 'on line.'

Aloe Vera gel and Coconut oil for acne?

Q. Ok so would using both of these on my face help is you know heal. Kinda get rid of pimples and help make the dark spots go away?? And since its gel I could put that on first and then use the coconut oil since it kinda clogs your pores or would that be dumb??? Pleas no hate I just want to know if it would help or if using it would be a waste of time.. btw I'm 13 if that makes any difference with the skin type or what ever.

Answer
Aloe Vera is better. You can use toothpaste which is effective and fast. Here are some tips that might be helpful:
1) Tea Tree Oil
2) Lemon juice
3) Apple cider vinegar
4) Bamboo extract or Sarna lotion – good for rosacea, psoriasis, eczema
5) Bio Oil or BB cream for dark spots or scars

Applied lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to face or you can drink it through using it in water a few drops a day. Will help with both acne, and scars as well. Another way you can get rid of acne is by taking bamboo extract something I started when I had the problem really does work. Hope this works for you.

OR: Here are seven best methods to clear up blemishes.

Tea-Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is a popular home remedy for acne. An essential oil is diluted and applied topically to acne lesions. How is tea tree oil believed to work? Tea tree oil contains a constituent called terpinen-4-ol that's thought to be responsible for most of tea tree oil's anti-bacterial activity. Because tea tree oil can kill bacteria, applying topical tea tree oil to acne lesions is believed to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria involved in acne.To treat mild, occasional breakouts.
How it works: Distilled from the leaves of an Australian shrub, tea-tree oil contains antibacterial and anti-microbial compounds called terpenoids that help kill the bacteria that, when trapped behind oil in a plugged pore, lead to acne breakouts. Try Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick ($8, burtsbees.com). A roller-ball tube makes for easy application.Studies testing tea-tree oil against the gold-standard acne treatment, benzoyl peroxide, have shown that while the latter works more quickly, tea-tree oil is equally effective over time. And it results in fewer annoying side effects—namely, dryness and redness.

Sulfur
If you have sensitive skin.
How it works: A time-tested, gentle acne fighter, sulfur “acts like a sponge to draw oil out of blocked pores,”. This dries up pimples and keeps sebum production in check, helping to prevent future blemishes. Sulfur has a distinct smell—think rotten eggs. Most preparations that use it contain a masking fragrance. However, to play it safe (and avoid scaring off coworkers), apply these products at night.

Salicylic Acid
To treat and soothe red, inflamed blemishes.Salicylic acid can have a calming, anti-inflammatory effect on pimples. “It also breaks down the ‘cement’ between cells in clogged pores to help unplug them,”
Salicylic acid is less irritating than more potent treatments, so it may be better for those with dry skin. It also tends to work well on stubborn blackheads.

Retinoids
Nightly to prevent breakouts.
How they work: Retinoids, which include over-the-counter retinol and prescription-strength Retin-A, reduce acne by altering the oil chemistry on the skin. “They help stop dense sebum from getting stuck within the pores,” says Gross. Without oil deposits, bacteria can’t grow and cause blemishes. Since retinoids can make skin sensitive to the sun, doctors recommend using them at night (and being diligent about wearing sunscreen during the day). To avoid irritation, apply every other evening to start, gradually working up to nightly use. Bonus benefit: Retinoids have been shown to increase collagen production and plump fine lines, making them a good choice if you’re dealing with acne and wrinkles.

Blue-Light Therapy
If you want the latest preventive treatment—and don’t mind plunking down some cash for it.
How it works: Once or twice a week, you use a handheld device to aim a beam of blue light onto your skin. “Its wavelength hits and kills acne-causing bacteria,” so any brewing pimples never come to the surface. This method will not address existing blemishes. Doctors typically suggest combining blue-light therapy with other remedies, such as topical treatments. To make things easy, consider a blue-light device that comes in a kit. At-home devices are smart alternatives to multiple costly treatments at a doctor’s office.

Oral Antibiotics
If you experience painful bumps below the skin surface and your pimples leave lasting marks. “Oral antibiotics act from the inside to kill the bacteria that cause acne,” says Keri. They also reduce the inflammation associated with pimples, so deep-seated blemishes hurt less and leave fewer scars.

Doctors usually prescribe them to get a severe condition under control and may then switch to topical treatments. Some antibiotics must be taken on an empty stomach, so read the label carefully.

Is coconut oil good for your face to stop aging and/or make skin smoother (on your face)?

Strawberri

Also, could it potentially clog pores and cause acne? I'm just worried about it because it seems thicker than other oils I have used and I used to have a moderate acne problem. I've heard that it's a really good natural oil and I use it on my legs but I just wanted to hear other people's opinions! Thanks in advance! :)

Answer
**Self massage with essential oils like coconut, almond, olive, & jojoba works wonders. Thicker oils have been diluted 50/50 successfully with thinner essental oils like grape seed.
They have been used by skin specialists to treat acne prone skins as they do not clog, cause breakouts, and they lessen skin's production of oil. They are great for anti aging as they nourish and feed skin many beneficial and health promoting nutrients. I found a forward and back motion using finger tips and front and sides of fingers, depending where on face you massage, is best (a circular one will be less effective).
Quickly gets rid of all blemishes in a matter of days. If do quite vigorously it exercises and tones face muscles and thus counteracts their weakening which leads to sagging and in turn results in many of our wrinkles and lines and face aging. Best to tighten facial skin first by opening mouth about 1", pulling lips firmly back against teeth, and protruding chin.
Vigorous massage is best for quickly smoothing, firming and tightening and can quickly give you a healthy, flawless, glowing skin. You will be amazed at it´s effectiveness. Oils are perfect, natural and safe moisturizers. Many moisturizing and other products are seriously skin harming, skin aging and do cause acne and have been pulled from some markets because of that and cancer concerns.(confirm with a Google). Oils quickly absorb into skin with vigorous massage so you do not remove. Simply splash face with water and tissue dry.
Many have benefited from treatment - see my many other answers. I have testimonials from happy users

coconut oil temperature?

Q. I just had my house heat treated for bed bugs and for my house specifically had to blast it to 180F degrees for 6 hrs. I forgot a whole case of coconut oil and I was wondering if I should toss it. I checked some of the jars and the seals didn't break so should that be okay? I also forgot some olive oil and supplements(pill form).

Answer
Yes, your coconut oil should be ok. It will just turn liquid when above a specific temperature but will turn back solid when cold. Give it a taste and smell to be sure. Remember that coconut oil is a tropical oil so it should withstand heat quite well. Coconut oil is also high in saturated fats so this makes it even more heat and light stable when compared to vegetable oils that are high in polyunsaturated fats.

Coconut oil benefits on hair.............?

Q. Is coconut oil good to stop hair fall ans simulate hair follicle and promote hair growth.. and does it also makes the hair condition, nourish, shine, silky, smooth.. and good.?????????

Answer
Even better is a "hair superfood" combination of Aloe Vera and Organic Coconut Oil applied directly to the hair, this will absorb into and nourish hair better than anything! This is an incredibly effective alternative to commercial hair care products, which are quick fixes that merely coat the hair shaft but actually are the biggest cause of dry, dull hair over time, due to the mainly artificial chemical ingredients they contain.

Aloe Vera - is one of Nature's best ultra-moisturizers. Not only does it super-moisturize your hair but it has potent anti-oxidants that help keep your hair healthy.

Coconut oil is a rare Medium Chain Fatty Acid whose structure most closely duplicates the natural oils found in human hair. It is rich in components that keep hair strong, vitalized, nourished and protected. It actually penetrates deep into the hair shaft instantly, one of the very few substances on Earth that can do this. It has been used for thousands of years for hair and skin care by people in tropical regions like India and Polynesia where coconuts grow in abundance.

Together they form a truly Magic Combination that is amazing for Beautiful, Healthy Hair!

Is spectrum organic refined coconut oil good for skin and hair?

Q. I bought it today and it didn't smell like anything. So far I put it on my skin and my skin feels smoothe. I tasted the coconut oil but I personally didn't like the taste. Is this brand of coconut oil good?

Answer
Yes, it is good for your skin and hair. However, it is refined so it has additives. If you want the real benefits of coconut oil, try pure or virgin coconut oil. It is more expensive, but it hasn't been robbed of its nutrients.

Refined Coconut Oil differs from pure coconut oil in many respects. First, you won’t find any scent (typical coconut scent) or taste of coconut in it, unlike in pure coconut oil. This deodorization is deliberately done since although many may like the scent of coconut in their cooking oil, there are many who don’t. Being refined, it is certainly more hygienic than the crude coconut oil, but not that beneficial from the point of view of health. It is left with almost no proteins or minerals. Its shelf life is longer than that of crude or pure coconut oil.

How would u use Virgin coconut oil?

*PRETTY WO

for hair growth

Answer
You get more benefits having fresh coconut milk and btw they are all VIRGIN, than applying them on your hair.

You read them online, were they trying to sell you products? Are they bloggers, posting links to their products, too?

Beauty products don't make hair grow. Eating is for growing, how does hair products GROW HAIR, lashes, and make them thicker?

You really are what you eat. If you're eating all the healthy foods from Mother Nature - not made by man or woman or supplements from GNC, your hair, nails, teeth, and the rest of your body will benefit too. You get all your vitamins & minerals from your diet.

There are more hair oil on the shelf now, than 30-40 years ago, and it's because it is a billion dollar business! There are more hair loss now, too, than 30-40 years ago!

There are many hair oil brand out there, man-made oil, none is better than the other. It can very well even harm your hair, even causes hair loss, since you don't know exactly what kind of oil they say it is. In the lab, they add other ingredients that can prevent from spoiling.

It does NOT make hair grow, it does not make hair thicker, it does help keep the hair moisturized, until you wash them again, that's about all it does, they're not glue to fix split ends, prevent, or reverse the damaged hair. Anything else they say on the label, it is to attract your attention. It is a billion dollar business and they do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to 'abuse'.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Maharashtra is ready to go on record saying that most manufacturers in the Rs 3,000-crore Indian cosmetics industry are rampantly misleading consumers with tall claims. This affliction goes beyond hair oils. FDA has found that from face creams to soaps and other items of personal care, cosmetics companies are taking the general public for a ride. The industry, of course, sees the whole issue differently.

If you've straightened your hair in the past, it may grow slowly or none at all.
Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair" - Your hair may be the fastest-growing tissue in the body but, unlike the skin, it cannot repair itself. That is why getting the right balance of vitamins and proteins is imperative. Don't expect to look like you've stepped out of a hair commercial the day after you've changed your diet. It is likely to take at least three months before you actually see tangible results.

Growing healthy hair doesn't come from a bottle or pills and hair products do not speed hair growth. Any hair oil, is another form to keep hair moisturized, nothing more. If you're in HS, your hair & nails should be growing normally, and as healthily as possible, since you're eating healthy foods. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tampered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. .

coconut oil and diaper rash?

yahoo ID 8

I read that coconut oil can help a diaper rash...has anyone tried it? how did it work?

Answer
My baby is six months old and he has never had diaper rash. From the day he was born up to today I use coconut oil on his skin every day. Maybe this has kept his skin protected. Then again I never use cloth diaper this may also be a factor but I use coconut oil (fresh one that my mother would make for me) on his skin every day.

How should I take coconut oil?

Q. I'm tryna take 3 tbl spoons a day. Is it ok to mix it with stuff? I just took it out the jar. It was thick and not good lol...Will I still get the same benefits it has if I mix it with other foods. Like yogurt or something

Answer
How much coconut oil should you take ?

Researchers state that the optimal amount for an adult is between 3 and 4 tablespoons per day. This equates to the amount of medium chain fatty acids a nursing child would consume in one day from mother's milk. It is best to use coconut oil three times a day at meal times. We recommend that you begin with a smaller amount and build up to the recommended dosage if necessary.

Coconut oil is one of the most stable oils you can buy. It does not turn rancid easily. It does not attack your arteries. In fact, coconut oil was one of the foods Weston Price studied in his journeys. He discovered that the coconut was considered, by the local populations, a medicine food. He found that those civilizations that consumed coconut regularly had no knowledge of cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and diabetes.

Let’s take a look at the healing properties of coconut oil:

Coconut oil is antiviral, antifungal (kills yeast too) and antibacterial. It attacks and kills viruses that have a lipid (fatty) coating, such as herpes, HIV, hepatitis C, the flu, and mononucleosis. It kills the bacteria that cause pneumonia, sore throats, dental cavities, urinary tract infections, meningitis, gonorrhea, food poisoning, pneumonia, and many, many more bacterial infections. It kills the fungus/yeast infections that cause candida, ringworm, athletes foot, thrush, jock itch, diaper rash and more.
Coconut oil is called the "low fat" fat. It actually acts like a carbohydrate in that it is quickly broken down in the liver and used as quick energy. It is NOT stored like other fats. It boosts one’s energy and endurance. Many athletes use it blended into their drinks. It also supports thyroid function and increases your metabolism (great if you want to lose weight).
Coconut oil improves digestion and absorption of fat soluble vitamins, minerals (especially calcium and magnesium), and amino acids. It improves the body’s use of blood glucose and improves insulin secretion and absorption (great for type II diabetes). In fact, many diabetics (type I and type II) use it to reduce their symptoms. One’s risk of diabetes decreases with regular use of coconuts and coconut oil. And as we already mentioned, cooking with coconut oil does not create any harmful byproducts.
Coconut oil helps the body heal and repair faster. It aids and supports immune function, protecting us from a variety of cancers.
Coconut oil, contrary to much hubbub, is good for your heart. It keeps our blood platelets from sticking together (and causing dangerous clots). Regular users of coconut oils have a much lower chance of atherosclerosis (clogging of the arteries), arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), and strokes. Coconut oil can lower your blood pressure.
Coconut oil is a natural antioxidant. It protects the body from free radical damage and prevents premature aging and degenerative diseases.
Finally, coconut oil is the best massage oil on the planet. What it does to your skin, you simply have to witness. It forms a barrier against infections, softens and moisturizes your skin, and prevents wrinkling, sagging, and age spots. It promotes healthy hair and complexion, protects from any damaging UV rays.

is it bad to use coconut oil on my face?

Q. I use coconut oil on my skin (I have keratosis pilaris) and it has worked rly well but is it bad if I also use it for my face?

Answer
Believe it or not, coconut oil is comedogenic. This means that it will clog you pores. Quite a few people who begin using coconut oil on their face report major benefits within the first week, and in the second week decide the coconut oil is causing more problems than they had in the first place. If you want an oil to use on your face, try researching the oil cleansing method. There's loads of information and resources. If you're not committed to using an oil, I would recommend using raw honey. Raw honey is honey in it's unfiltered and original form. Using regular honey won't help. You can get it at your local health food store, or on the internet. (It also tastes super delicious, lol.) I just smear it on my face and leave it for a half hour. It's rather strange feeling, but I've completely converted to honey masks, and my mother has too upon seeing the massive improvements in my skin.

I`ve read several articles online stating that it is good for the skin (removes blackheads, makes the skin smoother, brighter, glowing, etc.) However, I`ve also read an article stating that olive oil is very bad for the skin. What should I choose? Virgin Coconut Oil in bottle or capsule?

Q. Which is better? And why?

Answer
I use the kind in the jar. It's solid at room temp and I eat it with a spoon. I doubt you will get enough from capsules as most people take more than one tablespoon at a time. I also prefer to use something I can see and some of the capsules you can't see through.

what can coconut oil do to your body?

Molisa (A

all kinds and also the evco

Answer
Coconut oil (cold press non-rancid) is good for the body. It can lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and increase HDL (Good) Cholesterol. It is rich in Omega 9 and it has anti inflammatory properties. You can take a tablespoon of Virgin Coconut oil (VCO) once a day. Since most Americans use Sunflower Oil in cooking, taking Omega 3 (Flaxseed or Fish Oil) would be more beneficial I think than VCO.

Good oils are Essential Fatty Acids (EFA)and are still oils, but still you have to take it in moderation and exercise. VCO comes in gel capsules, bottles in original and flavored variants. They say there is an undergoing study about its use as conjunctive medication for HIV, ADHD no therapeutic claim as of the present.

Is there such thing as Extra Virgin Coconut Oil?

Diana M

I read on an article online that there is no such thing as EXTRA virign coconut oil and it is just a marketing scam to have one believe that it is better than Virgin Coconut Oil. Thank you!

Answer
extra virgin coconut oil is just the coconut oil, it's not refined. coconut oil is very very good for you. in my country [philippines] they make it from fresh coconuts.

Health benefits of coconut oil include the following:

Hair Care: Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shinny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged air. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.

Stress Relief: Coconut oil is very soothing and hence it helps in removing stress. Applying coconut oil to the head followed with a gentle massage helps in removing mental fatigue.

Skin Care: Coconut oil is excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles, and sagging of skin which normally become prominent with age. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Therefore coconut oil forms the basic ingredient of various body care products such as soaps, lotions, creams, etc., used for skin care.

Premature Aging: Coconut oil helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties.
Heart Diseases: There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for the heart. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats. However, coconut oil is beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. The saturated fats present in coconut oil are not harmful as it happens in case of other vegetables oils. It does not lead to increase in LDL levels. It also reduces the incidence of injury in arteries and therefore helps in preventing atherosclerosis.

Weight Loss: Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Further, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on pancreases, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who eat coconut oil daily as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.

Pancreatitis: Coconut oil is also believed to be useful in treating pancreatitis.

Digestion: Internal use of coconut oil occurs primarily as cooking oil. Coconut oil helps in improving the digestive system and thus prevents various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. The saturated fats present in coconut oil have anti microbial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc., that cause indigestion. Answer
Coconut oil consists of more than ninety percent of saturated fats (Don’t panic! First read to the last word.
* The Saturated Fatty Acids: Most of them are Medium Chain Triglycerides, which are supposed to assimilate well. Lauric Acid is the chief contributor, with more than forty percent of the share, followed by Capric Acid, Caprylic Acid, Myristic Acid and Palmitic.
* The Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids: Linoleic Acid.
* The Monounsaturated Fatty Acids: Oleic Acid.
* The Poly-phenols: Gallic Acid, which is phenolic acid. These poly-phenols are supposed to be responsible for the fragrance and the taste of Coconut Oil and Virgin Coconut Oil is rich in these poly-phenols.
* Certain derivatives of fatty acid like Betaines, Ethanolamide, Ethoxylates, Fatty Esters, Fatty Polysorbates, Monoglycerides and Polyol Esters.
* Fatty Chlorides, Fatty Alcohol Sulphate and Fatty Alcohol Ether Sulphate, all of which are derivatives of Fatty Alcohols.
* Vitamin-E and Vitamin K and minerals such as Iron.
Let us now explore the benefits of coconut oil in detail:
Hair Care:
Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shiny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.
Skin Care:
Coconut oil is excellent massage oil for the skin as well. Coconut oil also helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties.
Heart Diseases:
There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for the heart.
Weight Loss
Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight.

Coconut oil question?!?

Q. Today i bought 100 percent pure coconut oil. Is that good to put on the face as a moisturizer ?

Answer
Check out this article: Coconut Oil For Skin, Hair, Body: 6 Things To Know About The Super Ingredient

The Huffington Post | By Simone Kitchens:

"Why coconut oil is better than the average face moisturizer. And hair serum. And body lotion: "Commercial moisturizer contain lots of water, which makes you feel like your skin is being moisturized. But as soon as the water dries, your skin becomes dry again. Also, many commercial brands of moisturizer contain petroleum-based ingredients that can suffocate the skin. In contrast, coconut oil provides deep and real moisture. It helps strengthen underlying tissues and helps remove excessive dead cell on the skin's surface that makes your skin rough and flaky in texture. It also great for shine and as a natural moisturizer for your hair." ~~ By Simone Kitchens.

What is Hydrogenated Fats?

hottnessx3

i need to know the difference between that & trans fats....

Answer
Hi there,

Hydrogenated Fats:
A more technical explanation

Hydrogenated fats are oils that have been processed through a chemical hardening method to achieve increased plasticity (stiffness) of the liquid oils at room temperature. Partial hydrogenation (brush hydrogenation) hardens oils but does not make them fully solid. Full hydrogenation requires complete conversion of a liquid oil into a solid fat at room temperature.

Triglyceride
All fats are made up of triglycerides. A triglyceride is a chemical unit composed of the combination of one unit of
glyceride with three units of fatty acids. A typical fat or oil will be a physical mixture of many different types of
triglycerides.

Hydrogenated Fats and Oils
Hydrogenated fats are oils that have been processed through a chemical hardening method to achieve increased plasticity (stiffness) of the liquid oils at room temperature. Partial hydrogenation (brush hydrogenation) hardens oils but does not make them fully solid. Full hydrogenation requires complete conversion of a liquid oil into a solid fat at room temperature (72ø F). A fully hydrogenated oil has natural saturated fats left intact and all the remaining mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids become converted from their fluid configuration to a full trans fat rigid configuration.

Hydrogenation Process
The hydrogenation process employs Quan quanquan

1. High heat

2. A metal catalyst such as nickel, zinc, copper, or other reactive metals

3. Hydrogen gas.

The metals are used to react with the hydrogen gas which is bubbled up through the mixture. The metals catalyze the hydrogen and carbon atoms and converts the fatty acids by flipping one of the attached hydrogen molecules and rotating it half the diameter of the carbon chain.

This effectively creates a new molecular shape resulting in a stiffer or more rigid material, hence the change from a liquid to a semi-solid or solid substance. This new shape stiffens with the hydrogenation process making the oil behave more like a saturated fat (such as coconut fat which is 92% saturation and solid at room temperature).

Trans fats are the result of this reaction.

Partial hydrogenation, or "brush hydrogenation" is a minimal conversion step which only offers a small degree of reaction by hydrogenation. Brush hydrogenation increases stability for volatile fatty acids like the omega 3 (alpha-linolenic) and omega 6 (linoleic) polyunsaturated oils. Most commercial salad dressing oils, such as soybean oil, have been brush hydrogenated.

Hydrogenation raises the melting point of the fat and retards rancidity. But as recent health studies have found other problems can ensue when consuming large amounts of trans fats from hydrogenated products.

and I had one white chocolate lindor and a packet of cadburys highlights ring chocolate things

why i'm i still hungry!!

am i gonna get fat from that lol

Answer
You are suffering and I do mean SUFFERING, from endoctrination of the food industry. Low Fat diets cause this problem and are not only unnatural and should not be done, but will damage your body and leave your body in a starvation mode. This causes those "plateaus" people get into where they can't lose weight no matter how much they DON'T eat. Your body's adipose tissue, (fat tissue) acts like an endocrine gland because it secretes a hormone called Leptin. This hormone is responsible for the utilization of insulin and glucagon in the body. If you get most of your calories from carbs, you will have quick, fleeting energy that leaves you hungry and your fat cells telling your body that you are starving. This puts in motion a whole set of problems for you. Basically, your body goes into a state of stress and starvation mode to varying degrees. When this happens, your energy is now coming from cortisol, the stress hormone, not good energy made in your mitochondria from ATP. Your body cannot make good endocrine cells if it is deficient in fat.

Carbs act like the kindling on a fire that gets it going, but burns out quickly. Fats, on the other hand, provide long sustained energy, like the logs on a fire. Our genetics have changed only about 0.1% in the last 12,000 years and primitive man got most of his food as wild animals feeding off wild grasses and wild fish, eating their natural pure diets. Those fats were the primary sustained energy stores that kept man from starving to death when periods of no food existed. That's the way we are designed.

Skim, pasteurized milk is junk, complete garbage that is not fit for humans to drink. The only thing you get out of that is altered calcium that causes cataracts, bone spurs, and kidney stones; chards of foreign amino acids that cause homocystein responses in people; powdered milk solids from sick cows that are fed grain instead of their natural diet, grass; titanium dioxide (white paint) to turn the blue milk with it's butterfat removed; and about 200,000 dead bacteria bodies per ml. and 2% to 3% live harmful bacteria that is found in about 92% of all chrones patients.

Everything you mentioned, except for the tuna that was most likely farm raised (grain fed) with no omega 3 in it due to the diet they were put on, are ALL carbohydrates. No wonder you are hungry. I would be hungry too if I put my body in that starvation mode.

Throw out ALL vegetable oils in your house because they are causing great inflammation in your body that causes heart disease and all hydrogenated oils, anything that says MSG or "natural flavors" and don't eat fried foods of any kind. Make a mixture of three oils you get from the health food store, NOT the Mausoleums where dead food is held in state (super markets that are NOT super at all): Make a mixture as follows: 1/3 Olive oil (preferrably the one that comes in a can imported from Italy, not the American garbage that has Canola oil in it to make it cheaper, 1/3 Coconut oil (get the organic virgin, cold pressed type) and 1/3 Sesame Seed Oil (organic). Mix these together and use them for cooking and salads. For salads, add balsamic vinegar to the oil and it makes a very tasty dressing. The store bought dressings are made from genetically engineered soy bean or canola oils that are terrible for your body.

Your diet ratio should be typically 40% carbs, 30% fats, and 30% proteins. Proteins should be complete proteins as you find in whole eggs. (don't get the egg whites, that depletes your body of protein because it creates a big imbalance). The fats should be the mix I suggested and/or 60% monounsaturated fats, 30% saturated fats, and 10% polyunsaturated fats (from nuts and seeds, like flax seeds, etc., not the packaged oils that are all oxidized by the time you buy them.

You are still hungry because you are starving and your body is crying out. You will do yourself a huge favor to buy the book called, "Life Without Bread" by Christian Allan, Ph.D. You will also most likely find that your libido is lower by eating what you are eating and if you don't get some good fat in your diet, you will be looking for viagra and other things to stimulate your sex life, like many Americans that have bought into this Low Fat, Low Salt lunacy.

good luck to you

Olive oil vs. coconut oil for cooking?

Miss Anthr

Which do you prefer and why?

Answer
My naturopath and local health food coop have both encouraged me to try coconut oil. For cooking, coconut oil is more stable at higher temperatures. Olive oil I don't think is good to use for high heat sauteing only low to medium temps.

I think coconut oil got a bad rap in the 80s, but is not as bad for you as was claimed.

I bought some coconut oil, but havent used it much. You need ot buy extra-virgin.

Here's an webpage about coconut oil:

Cooking with coconut oil?

Peggy Pira

My small town doesn't have coconut oil. Recipe calls for raw cocanut oil melted. I don't even know what coconut oil is. Can I use vegable oil or canola oil? Or just butter melted.

Answer
Yes. You may substitute canola oil, olive oil, etc. Raw (extra virgin) coconut oil is usually solid when purchased, but melts in warmer houses but this does not hurt it at all. A good coconut oil will smell & taste like fresh coconut. In the solid state it is pure white. It should not be refrigerated, and has a great shelf life - upwards to 2 years. It is cholesterol free.

According to the website www.nutiva.com, you can use coconut oil instead of other oils in your daily cooking. You can blend coconut oil in smoothies, use it as a spread on toast (it makes fantastic cinnamon toast), use it as a topping on popcorn, and in other recipes.

Therefore, yes, it can be substituted for other oils in your recipe.

Answer
It does work you must dilute it with water.

I used to breakout in acne due to oily skin and have eczema myself. Genetic, Stress and Bacteria can affect hormones and can theoretically promote acne. Here are some home remedies that can help but do not mix them together. You want to make sure you exfoliate your face every other day. Before putting any application on face for acne rinse with cool water then pad dry.

1) Tea Tree Oil- An essential oil is diluted and applied topically to acne lesions.
2) Lemon oil or juice - Applied lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to face or you can drink it through using it in water a few drops a day. You can leave overnight don't expose yourself to sunlight. Will help with both acne, and scars as well.
3) Mandarin oil
4) Cedar wood – good for eczema, psoriasis
5) Lavender
6) Apple cider vinegar
7) Bamboo extract or Sarna lotion – good for rosacea, psoriasis, eczema
8) Bio Oil or BB cream for dark spots or scars
9) Mederma good for stretch marks and scars
10) Toothpaste is very effective for acne leave on face for about 20 to 30 minutes then wash. Leave on to long will leave a scar.
11) Zinc really works on acne
12) 2% Erythromycin
13) Benzoin Peroxide
14) Hydrogen Peroxide 3% - It can help to dry out acne by killing bacteria on the skin. Soak a cotton ball in hydrogen peroxide and apply it either to the acne breakouts on your face. You also may opt to apply hydrogen peroxide to your entire face to help prevent future breakouts. Allow the hydrogen peroxide to do its job -- wait until the bubbling stops in approximately a minute or two. Rinse your face with water. Apply an oil-free moisturizer to prevent skin from drying out.
15) Vitamin B3- also known as niacin. It promotes healthy skin, can be utilized as an acne treatment.
16) Retinoid- increase collagen production and plump fine lines, making it a good choice if you’re dealing with acne and wrinkles.
17) Sulfur- dries up pimples and keeps sebum production in check, helping to prevent future blemishes. Sulfur has a distinct smell think rotten eggs.
18) Coconut oil good for acne and scars.
19) Turmeric powder is also good for acne.
20) Neutrogena products
21) Brown Listerine also sucks the life of your acne wash after about 15 minutes.
22) Witch Hazel & Rubbing Alcohol both are good for acne
23) Aloe Vera either from the plant itself or gel apply on the infected area.
24) Neem oil-good for acne, psoriasis, eczema, skin ulcers (taken either orally in capsule or externally in oil)

This is something I use every day and I got rid of my cystic acne and my eczema. I really recommend this. Neem oil: It is powerful antiviral and antibacterial properties, beneficial to those who suffer from various skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, eczema, skin ulcers, helps one treat hair related problems like dandruff and itchy scalp. Dental care products like toothpaste, mouth washes and rinses all use the neem oil's antiseptic properties to keep teeth health and gums free of infection. Other benefits also include its use in household items like mosquito repellents, disinfectants and personal hygiene products. If you like you can purchase at http://www.amazon.com/ref=ap_frn_logo or in health food stores. It is the same price as some of the acne medications, either prescribe or over-the-counter.

Answer
I'm not sure how, but I wouldn't recommend them.

HAIR WEAVES & BRAIDS: Some hairstyles, including tight braids and weaves, may increase the risk of developing an irreversible form of scarring hair loss, according to a new study in the Archives of Dermatology.
Seen predominately in African-American women, this type of hair loss, central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia, centers on the vertex (crown) of the scalp and spreads peripherally.
“Any style that causes too much tension and traction on the hair, such as braiding with artificial hair weaved in, can possibly lead to scarring hair loss,” says study author Angela Kyei, MD, a dermatologist at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
In the study, 326 African-American women answered questionnaires about their hair-grooming methods, health status, and other demographic information. Dermatologists then performed a scalp examination to grade hair loss.

Nearly 60% of the women showed signs of advanced central hair loss with scarring. The women were also more likely to have type 2 diabetes and bacterial scalp infections, and sport hair styles associated with traction, including braids and weaves, the study showed.
“But hair loss is permanent, meaning that we can inject steroids or creams but it won't bring your hair back, so it’s very important to seek help with dermatologists early on,” she says.

S-curl relaxer is a product made by Luster, but for some reason people use the phrase S-curl referring to the style. It is a relaxer and relaxers contain chemicals that can damage your hair, especially when not used by a professional.

Relaxers Warning: they're not permanent, that's $300 - $500 each time you get them done. One I responded, she had hers done in March and this is now May when she posted it? It is a billion dollar business, and they do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to 'abuse', in this case, cancer.

Brazilian Blowout are BANNED! Past users of the product have complained of sore throat, skin irritation, headaches, chest pain and rashes, among other symptoms. That may have something to do with the fact that the levels of formaldehyde found in the product rival those typically used in funeral embalming. That’s a lot of formaldehyde.

Reps for the company swear it’s all a misunderstanding. And the product labels itself “no formaldehyde” and “formaldehyde free.” The company has until September 12 to get its affairs in order, or risk having its product seized by the FDA. “We have been tested countless times by OSHA,” the company’s CEO Mike Brady told NPR. “And we have never exceeded a safety standard ever.”

Why can't I get waves on the sides of my head?

Andre R

Okay so I'm trying to get 360 waves. I brush my hair usually 3 times a day for 15 minutes each time. On the sides of my head I use to brush them at an angle, but recently I've learned on the internet that you should brush straight down. So I've tried, and yet to see any results. Can anybody give me some tips or somethin? Also would you rather use a wave cap or du rag?

Answer
my brother uses grease to get waves. he alternates between blue magic and coconut oil by isoplus i believe. apply the grease once a day all over your head making sure not to put too much then brush down. i think du rags are better but waves caps probably work just as good. in a few weeks your waves should start to appear. and when you trim your hair make sure you trim downwards or else your waves will be gone.

How beneficial is Extra Virgin Unrefined Organic Coconut Oil?

Q. I heard it has great benifits, just to take by the teaspoon. But, have you done it? What do you know of how it helps the body?

Answer
Health effects

The APCC provides a short bibliography of publications summarizing the coconut's health benefits. Research shows that replacing other cooking oils with virgin coconut oil generally creates a more favorable HDL/LDL ratio. This oil has antiviral, antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiprotozoal properties and, like all whole foods, contains nutrients for a healthy body.

Over many decades coconut oil received bad publicity due to its saturated fat content, but research has shown that not all saturated fats are alike and coconut oil is unique in its structural make-up. It is not only the highest source of saturated fats (92%) but included in this is the highest source of saturated medium chain triglycerides (62%) of any naturally occurring vegan food source. Furthermore around 50% of these MCT’s are made up of lauric acid, the most important essential fatty acid in building and maintaining the body’s immune system.

Heart disease

Blood tests performed on rats showed decreased risk factors for heart disease (reduced total cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein and increased high-density lipoprotein) in rats fed virgin coconut oil, when compared to rats fed copra oil. In addition, the polyphenol fraction of unprocessed coconut oil prevented in vitro oxidation of low-density lipoproteins.

A study of Polynesian populations that consumed mainly coconut meat found that increased consumption of coconut was associated with significantly higher levels of serum cholesterol but this was not associated with higher rates of death due to heart attacks and other forms of cardiovascular disease.

Coconut oil has been shown to reduce the tendency of the blood to clot when compared to polyunsaturated fats .

What in the World Oil Pulling Is and Why You Should Do It
When I oil pull, my skin feels softer. My feet are as soft as they could possibly be. It is really remarkable. I have always had to do these treatments with scrubs and lotions and what-have-you just to have okay feet—but even if I am not doing constant treatments, when I’m oil pulling consistently, they are ridiculously soft. My blemishes disappear. My teeth are whiter.

All of the mucous we store in our bodies is removed and I breathe perfectly clearly. Even now when the pollen is everywhere, I have no sign of mucous in my nose or lungs, except in the morning when I spit it out after oil pulling. So what does it mean to pull oil and why do we do it?

WHAT KIND OF OILS?
Any oil will do EXCEPT: Canola (not fit for human consumption), Peanut (contains mold), Soy (contains estrogenic properties) or any oil that is dark.
Expeller Pressed and Cold Pressed are basically the same thing. Pressing the nut or seed without heat. This is also called Unrefined.
Organic if you can get it.
You can use refined oils. You can use olive oil (but it MAY stain your teeth). You can use Safflower Oil from the grocery store. It's FINE.
If you want the greatest benefits, try to use oils that have not been heated. You do absorb the health benefits of the oil.
There have been studies that say that nut and seed oils, even when cold pressed start to oxidize and go rancid immediately. There have been studies on bad radicals and oils. I don't have time but challenge the posters here to do some research on this and post for our edification.
Coconut Oil apparently is not subject to this intense oxidation. It can keep for years without any rancidity. It can be heated to a very high temperature without breaking down. Does anyone have any info on the superiority of coconut vs other oils?
So, there you go. The basics on oil.
Take a tablespoon (or less) of oil.
Gently swish all around your mouth and suck between your teeth.
This is not an olympic event, so don't hurt your jaw swishing! However if you decide to do power swishing, I've heard if firms up jowels....
The oil should thicken and then thin. This can happen anytime.
If it stays thick, do for 20 minutes.
This is not an exact science! Thick, thin, yellow, white. No matter. Just swish it around for as long as you can up to 20 minutes. Spit it out in 3, 5, 7, 10 whatever. Whatever works for you. It the daily content of your saliva that changes it from day to day. It will not always be the same, but do it everyday.
Rinse with warm Sea Salt water to really cleanse and add to the healthy protocol.
Wha La......not too complicated....easy breezy.
There it is in a nutshell. No reason to get too dramatic about it. It's an everyday thing, like brushing your teeth. Change your oil every once in a while. Don't know why this renews the therapy, but it does.

How would YOU use coconut oil for weight loss?

Q. I know all of the wonderful benefits about coconut oil, I just know that you have to consume it if you want to lose weight. But how would you consume it? In the mornings, I usually make a pot of oatmeal over the stove (I don't believe in microwaving my food, it just tastes so much better when you take the time to cook it). Anyways, in my oatmeal, I'd add about 2-3 TBSP of coconut oil. It doesn't change the taste or anything, and it's actually a lot smoother going down! But there's more I can do, I just don't know what. Can you help me? Please and thanks?

Oh, and any other weight loss (natural remedy) would really help. Thank you!

Answer
First of all I would check my doctor to make sure it is safe for me. After that I would just substitute the cooking oil I normally use with coconut oil or either take one teaspoon of it each day or mix it with a liquid such as water. As far as other natural ways to help you lose weight, you can check out this site http://secretstoeasyweightloss.com/ to get tips and advice on weight loss.

Pure virgin coconut oil for weight loss?

Emily P

My friend is really into health food and alternative medicines. She swears by pure virgin coconut oil and keeps insisting that I try it to help with weight loss and metabolism. I'm just curious to hear about the benefits and if it's OK for your body if you eat it with food on a regular basis.

Answer
Although I am not a healthcare pro or anything, I've been using extra virgin coconut oil for about a month now. I've noticed a small weight loss (5lbs) but I do feel great! I use it before I work out in the morning and I do seem to have more energy. My skin also is more clear and smooth. There is a book called "The Coconut Diet" (you can get it on amazon.com), I just bought the book and have not finished it yet. I does give you ideas on what foods to eat with the coconut oil. I have a hard time eating it. It looks like Crisco and the consistancy makes me gag. I've been putting into a cup of hot water to melt it with sugar free instant coffee powder in the morning and drinking it that way. It helps it go down better. I also seem to not want sweets as much and I feel quite full after drinking it. So far no negative effects but no Major weightloss either.
