Any good hair oils out there?

What is the best indian hair oil? I bought Dabar Amala Gold but it contains Canola oil, and I think that its very bad! I was thinking Dabar Vatika or Almond oil, or Coconut oil. I have some gray hair and dandruff issue. I am not sure what kind of hair oil is good and what to buy? There are so many choices at the store. Any experiences anyone?

Answer
If u're thinking of indian products, then go for Vatika coconut oil. It smells nice and u can easily use it. Don't go for amla oil. It stinks like goat poo (sorry).

As for the dandruff issue, neem oil is good. But the problem is that most of commercial indian oils contain either mineral oil or parrafinum liquidum or even silicone (cyclomethicone and so on in -cone). If u're brave enough, u can make ur own neem oil from the neem powder, or use neem powder as a pre-shampoo.

As for gray hair, brahmi is great. U can use it as a powder to treat your hair, also in a pre shampoo phase. If u go for the oil, make sure it doesn't contain poop ingredients.

Now, onto the hair care: dandruff is caused by the dryness of your scalp. You have to oil your scalp every 2-3 days to "feed" it so that it doesn't dry and make dandruff.

I use indian powders and I like them. They really treat hair and scalp problems.

is it bad to use coconut oil on my face?

Roselyn

I use coconut oil on my skin (I have keratosis pilaris) and it has worked rly well but is it bad if I also use it for my face?

Answer
Believe it or not, coconut oil is comedogenic. This means that it will clog you pores. Quite a few people who begin using coconut oil on their face report major benefits within the first week, and in the second week decide the coconut oil is causing more problems than they had in the first place. If you want an oil to use on your face, try researching the oil cleansing method. There's loads of information and resources. If you're not committed to using an oil, I would recommend using raw honey. Raw honey is honey in it's unfiltered and original form. Using regular honey won't help. You can get it at your local health food store, or on the internet. (It also tastes super delicious, lol.) I just smear it on my face and leave it for a half hour. It's rather strange feeling, but I've completely converted to honey masks, and my mother has too upon seeing the massive improvements in my skin.

Answer
Coconut oil - virgin coconut oil is best for the skin but is too heavy for facial application. Try grapeseed oil instead. It is very light and thin plus nourishing for your skin.

How often should I put coconut milk to my skin to have a glowing skin effect?

elizabeth

i live in the southeast pacific and coconuts are in abundance. recently, i have learned that there are lots of benefits i can get from coconut milk. it is cheap, free and easily available in where i live. my question is how often should i put coconut milk on my skin to have a glowing, smooth and silky effect? my friend told me that i should rub coconut milk to my skin everyday before i take a bath. And additional question, should i use fresh coconut milk or virgin coconut oils found in drugstores and grocery stores? which is better? thank you very much for all the responses!! =)

Answer
Coconut milk is thought to help exfoliate because of the fatty acids it has in it. I also heard that coconut oil was beneficial for hair and skin. Both applying it and ingesting it. The oil probably moisturizes more than exfoliate, so I'm sure you could do both. Just remember that the milk is probably a gentle exfoliation, so if your skin is really dry, there are more aggressive products that you could use that would give better exfoliation. But if your getting it free.. just stick with that. I wish we could get free coconuts here in the states! They are too expensive to buy here for daily consumption.

HOW GOOD IS ARGAN OIL SERUM?

Quintessa

I just discovered argan oil and i love it but i heard that there's a serum for the hair so i was wondering where can i buy it at and how good is the products and anything else you know about the stuff thanks a lot

Answer
Omg yes argan oil is awesome, I use it almost everyday because I have frizzy curls and that stuff is the only one that actually makes it look good. Plus I found one online that is also a heat protectant and I straighten my hair sometimes so it's extra useful, you use some after a shower and it's not even greasy. It has more benefits than olive, coconut, castor, almond..lots of oils in general, it's just really really good!! Mine is called pro naturals moroccan argan oil, look for it online. That one is kinda pricey because salons use it, but it's the best and it has no silicones. Oh careful with that btw, never get argan oi with silicones, always check the ingredient list. Those are bad for hair and make it heavy and greasy looking.

I need to buy coconut oil for my skin but I'm confused....HELP!!!?

Q. I'm losing weight and I want to avoid loose skin around my stomach so I did some research and found that coconut oil is a great way to prevent it (as well as other benefits for your skin). But now I'm confused because I'm seeing coconut oil you can cook with and coconut oil you can put on your skin and hair. Are they the same thing or are they different? I don't want to buy the wrong one. Same with Castor Oil. I've heard you can apply that topically as well. Is this correct as well?

Answer
The coconut oil (and castor oil) that you cook with is the same kind that you use on your body. There is no difference. And I LOVE coconut oil by the way. :)

Is there such thing as Extra Virgin Coconut Oil?

Diana M

I read on an article online that there is no such thing as EXTRA virign coconut oil and it is just a marketing scam to have one believe that it is better than Virgin Coconut Oil. Thank you!

Answer
extra virgin coconut oil is just the coconut oil, it's not refined. coconut oil is very very good for you. in my country [philippines] they make it from fresh coconuts.

Health benefits of coconut oil include the following:

Hair Care: Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shinny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged air. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.

Stress Relief: Coconut oil is very soothing and hence it helps in removing stress. Applying coconut oil to the head followed with a gentle massage helps in removing mental fatigue.

Skin Care: Coconut oil is excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles, and sagging of skin which normally become prominent with age. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Therefore coconut oil forms the basic ingredient of various body care products such as soaps, lotions, creams, etc., used for skin care.

Premature Aging: Coconut oil helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties.
Heart Diseases: There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for the heart. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats. However, coconut oil is beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. The saturated fats present in coconut oil are not harmful as it happens in case of other vegetables oils. It does not lead to increase in LDL levels. It also reduces the incidence of injury in arteries and therefore helps in preventing atherosclerosis.

Weight Loss: Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Further, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on pancreases, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who eat coconut oil daily as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.

Pancreatitis: Coconut oil is also believed to be useful in treating pancreatitis.

Digestion: Internal use of coconut oil occurs primarily as cooking oil. Coconut oil helps in improving the digestive system and thus prevents various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. The saturated fats present in coconut oil have anti microbial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc., that cause indigestion. Coconut oil also helps in absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Immunity: Coconut oil is also good for the immune system. It strengthens the immune system as it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. It helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia.

Healing: When applied on infections, it forms a chemical layer which protects the infected body part from external dust, air, fungi, bacteria and virus. Coconut oil is most effective on bruises as it speeds up the healing process by repairing damaged tissues.

Infections: Coconut oil is very effective against a variety of infections due to its antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. According to the Coconut Research Center, coconut oil kills viruses that cause influenza, measles, hepatitis, herpes, SARS, etc. It also kills bacteria that cause ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, pneumo

Coconut Oils?

I've been reading alot about the benefits of coconut oils (for cooking, applying to your skin and hair, etc.). I have been looking at several websites that explain everything about the oils and different types, which is the best, etc., however there are so many brands with huge price differences. Can anyone recommend a brand that you find works well and lives up to its promise? If you use it, what benefits do you think it has from personal experience? I know it is good for the skin outside, but supposedly it's good for many, many things, internally and externally. Thank you everyone!!
Also, which is better...virgin or extra virgin coconut oil?
thank you so far for the links, most of those i have read. I appreciate your help so far, but I am interested in hearing from people who are using it and what benefits they see and feel from it.

Answer
Virgin Coconut OIl or VCNO is all you need if it's a good brand.

It's incredible stuff. It definitely gives me more energy and in cooking it gives foods a great taste. Also if you fry with it it doesn't taste greasy.

Since frying can use a bit of it I use the Organic Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil. It doesn't smell quite as good but works fine for frying and is cheaper.

You have not lived until you've tried onion rings made with it. Not greasy at all and incredible!

It works great in baking except being a little soft for some recipes (especially in summer ) because it melts at like 74 degrees. If that's an issue just use 1/2 vcno and 1/2 butter.
The only thing I haven't cared for with it is scrambled eggs. It gives them a bit of a soapy taste but it's great in hot cereal, makes an soup creamier and better tasting and gives me energy

These are the guys I use. They are the experts and the original importer of it. They also use family farms (in Phillipines) and have been a pleasure to deal with.
They also have good sales.

What are the benefits of virgin coconut oil? Thanks?

Kaye B

Answer
Extra virgin coconut oil (EVCO) also is stable at higher temperatures so is safe to use in cooking. Vegetable oils are not as stable at higher temperatures and leave a plaque over time in the body. The body is also more easily able to burn off EVCO. Vegetable oils tend to collect in and congest the liver. Put some olive (or any vegetable oil) on your hands and rub it in, it's so greasy and hard to get rid of. Try the same with EVCO, it will dissolve in and you won't even feel it in a little while.

Coconut oil for your skin?

rupunzel

I've heard that coconut oil is really good for you skin, that you could rub it on or ingest it, and that it helps clear up acne. is any of this true?? if so, how can I use it???

Answer
The small molecular structure of coconut oil allows for easy absorption through the skin, giving it a soft, smooth texture.its makes an ideal ointment for the relief of dry, rough and wrinkled skin.
Most commonly available creams and lotions are mostly water. Their moisture is quickly absorbed into dry, wrinkled skin. As the water enters the skin, it expands the tissues, like filling a balloon with water, so that wrinkles fade away and the skin feels smoother. But this is only temporary. As soon as the water evaporates or is carried away by the blood stream, the dry, wrinkled skin returns. No matter how hard you try people will never be able to permanently cure dry, wrinkled skin with any commercial body lotion or body care products. Besides the water, most lotions have an oil of some type. This oil is almost always a highly refined vegetable oil devoid of all natural protective antioxidants. One product in our food supply and in body care products that leads to a great deal of free radicals is oxidized vegetable oils.

Most definitely ! I use Coconut oil and Olive oil and macadamian nut oil andother natural oils in my hair.

one of the main benefits of olive oil is its nourishing property. Used on hair, olive oil can nourish, condition, and improve the strength and elasticity. Moreover, being olive oil a completely natural product, treating yourself with it will help reducing the stress caused by chemical products and therefore improve the health of your hair overall. hope this helps :)

What cooking oil should I use, low on fat?

Ritchie

I know olive oil is a healthy fat but Im wanna keep my fat consumption low to keep my body fat low. In other words I wanna save my fat consumption for my days when I eat out at a restaurant.

Answer
Yes, olive oil IS very healthy. It’s rich in monounsaturated fats (oleic acid) which raises the good HDL cholesterol and lower the bad LDL cholesterol in the blood so it’s very good for the heart and your organs’ health. Use it in all your salads dressings. 1 tbsp. (for a woman) or 2 tbsp. (for a man) will give you daily great benefits, as long as you replace your saturated fats by olive oil and not just add olive oil, so you don’t eat too many calories. Olive oil is good but it’s still 120 calories per tbsp.

You’re asking…”What cooking oil should you use, low on fat?”
No cooking oils are low fat since they ARE fat but you have a choice between the bad kind of fat (saturated fat), the good kind of fat (polyunsaturated fat) and the best kind of fat (monounsaturated fat).

The bad kind (saturated) are mostly coconut and palm oils and will clog your arteries.
The good kind (polyunsaturated) are like Canola, sunflower, Soya, cottonseed, soybean and corn oils.
The best kind is olive oil (monounsaturated). And also peanut oil, unless you’re allergic to nuts.

Olive oil in salad dressing is the best and tastes great, but now, if you want to cook with it, you have to make the difference between different kinds of olive oils, according to your cooking methods and the temperature the oil will reach. The 100% pure olive oil is the lowest quality, because it’s not “virgin”. If you’ll reach a temperature above 375F, you have to use extra light olive oil, which was refined and can withstand higher cooking temperatures but has less flavor.

Personally, I don’t bother. I use olive oil for my salad dressings and maybe with low temperatures, like making my already cooked pieces of potatoes crispy golden on the stove top (not too often, of course).
For frying, like French fries, I use Canola oil, a good polyunsaturated oil that tastes great and do not degrade at high temperature, and if you do it right (blot, blot, blot), your fries will be low calories.

For high temperature cooking (above 450F), you have to use an oil that will not degrade to toxic compounds when heated up, like extra light olive oil, or Canola oil (which is my choice).
Another oil that can withstand extreme deep frying is palm oil but you do not want to use it because it’s saturated fat, which is the bad clogging arteries kind, used commercially, like that restaurant where you’re going…

You do not want to save your fat consumption for the days when you eat out at a restaurant. It’s not just about the calories. You need the good kind of fat every day and the bad, restaurant kind (palm oil and animal fat) as little as possible.
Restaurant will put in front of you a plate to feed a family of four, not just fat but carbs and proteins, usually four times the calories one person would need.

At home, you have a lot of cooking methods for which you do not need any extra fat. Slow cooker, pressure cooker, steamer, microwave, rotisserie, grill…Use more herbs. I cannot eat chicken or salmon at restaurants anymore because my herbs skinless chicken in my little rotisserie is out of this world…and their salmon never tastes as good and juicy as my steamed salmon.
I use my steamer for fish and veggies…again, not having to use any extra fat.

Do you want a homemade 135 calories pasta with broccoli-onion sauce and you can have seconds if your kids left any…or do you want the high calorie-clogging arteries kind from the restaurant with 3 tons of pasta and butter, because it’s easier to cook with a lot of fat?

How should I take coconut oil?

Toni_Baby

I'm tryna take 3 tbl spoons a day. Is it ok to mix it with stuff? I just took it out the jar. It was thick and not good lol...Will I still get the same benefits it has if I mix it with other foods. Like yogurt or something

Answer
How much coconut oil should you take ?

Researchers state that the optimal amount for an adult is between 3 and 4 tablespoons per day. This equates to the amount of medium chain fatty acids a nursing child would consume in one day from mother's milk. It is best to use coconut oil three times a day at meal times. We recommend that you begin with a smaller amount and build up to the recommended dosage if necessary.

Coconut oil is one of the most stable oils you can buy. It does not turn rancid easily. It does not attack your arteries. In fact, coconut oil was one of the foods Weston Price studied in his journeys. He discovered that the coconut was considered, by the local populations, a medicine food. He found that those civilizations that consumed coconut regularly had no knowledge of cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and diabetes.

Let’s take a look at the healing properties of coconut oil:

Coconut oil is antiviral, antifungal (kills yeast too) and antibacterial. It attacks and kills viruses that have a lipid (fatty) coating, such as herpes, HIV, hepatitis C, the flu, and mononucleosis. It kills the bacteria that cause pneumonia, sore throats, dental cavities, urinary tract infections, meningitis, gonorrhea, food poisoning, pneumonia, and many, many more bacterial infections. It kills the fungus/yeast infections that cause candida, ringworm, athletes foot, thrush, jock itch, diaper rash and more.
Coconut oil is called the "low fat" fat. It actually acts like a carbohydrate in that it is quickly broken down in the liver and used as quick energy. It is NOT stored like other fats. It boosts one’s energy and endurance. Many athletes use it blended into their drinks. It also supports thyroid function and increases your metabolism (great if you want to lose weight).
Coconut oil improves digestion and absorption of fat soluble vitamins, minerals (especially calcium and magnesium), and amino acids. It improves the body’s use of blood glucose and improves insulin secretion and absorption (great for type II diabetes). In fact, many diabetics (type I and type II) use it to reduce their symptoms. One’s risk of diabetes decreases with regular use of coconuts and coconut oil. And as we already mentioned, cooking with coconut oil does not create any harmful byproducts.
Coconut oil helps the body heal and repair faster. It aids and supports immune function, protecting us from a variety of cancers.
Coconut oil, contrary to much hubbub, is good for your heart. It keeps our blood platelets from sticking together (and causing dangerous clots). Regular users of coconut oils have a much lower chance of atherosclerosis (clogging of the arteries), arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), and strokes. Coconut oil can lower your blood pressure.
Coconut oil is a natural antioxidant. It protects the body from free radical damage and prevents premature aging and degenerative diseases.
Finally, coconut oil is the best massage oil on the planet. What it does to your skin, you simply have to witness. It forms a barrier against infections, softens and moisturizes your skin, and prevents wrinkling, sagging, and age spots. It promotes healthy hair and complexion, protects from any damaging UV rays.

"" Noticeable Skin Improvement
I have to tell you that after the 1st week of doing the Advanced Clay Detox regimen, I went with my husband for his appointment with our Dermatologist. I noticed the Doctor look at my face twice and he didn't say anything. After Bill's exam was done, I went in to see the Doctor's book keeper, she literally ran up to me and stroked my face with her right hand (something she never did before) and asked me what I was using on my skin. At first, I asked her if she really noticed a difference and she said, "Oh my, yes!!" I didn't notice any changes at the time, but now that I am 18 days into the Advanced Detox, and I have done 3 clay masks, I notice my skin is firmer and the pores are shrinking and I don't use as much makeup. – Robin M.

Love Affair with Living Clay - My Skin Tells All
You know, over the last few years I've gone through lots of different "health" products, but the clay and psyllium husk powder are the only 2 that I have stuck with this long.....because I have seen the results and they are great. I've been out in the sun a lot these past 2 weeks and I have not taken the time to apply sun screen on my face (which I need to be better about), but I have not had the first hint of sunburn on my face yet. I do believe that it is because of the clay masks. My face just does not feel as "sensitive" as it had been in the past. Another thought that I have had about the clay face masks is that the circulation to my face has improved due to the drawing power of the clay as it dries on my face and pulls the blood up. Whenever I wash off the clay my face is flushed red, which is the blood sitting right under the surface of the skin. I believe this is improving my circulation, thus giving more oxygen to those areas, thus making a healthier face. I was not blessed with good circulation. - Hallie G.

Complexion Improvement
I received a sample of the Rejuvenation Face Cream and just love it. I know that it has been instrumental in helping my skin as well! You shared a few days ago that you have gotten feedback from some who have asked that the Rejuvenation Face Cream be marketed as an "acne cream." I can see why! Just wanted to share of my experience thus far with your powder clay product. I've been ingesting an teaspoonful a day in an 8oz. glass of water in the morning on an empty stomach as suggested. I can see a marked difference in the appearance of my skin and complexion. I've been dealing with some slight adult acne which has left some mild scaring. My skin a clearing nicely and seems to have a "glow" to it. I have had a wee bit of sun too. - Cynthia J.

Genital Herpes
I was diagnosed with genital herpes one year ago and went on the usual bout of prescriptions. Every now and then, as predicted, I get a break out, not as bad as the first. A friend of mine -- who is the one I credit to turning me on to your products and a genital herpes sufferer as well, recommended that I put the clay mask directly on the sore and leave it on. I had been using Zovirax cream-- which was not helping by the way. I put it directly on the sore at night and went to bed with it on. The next day, it was completely gone. And this has happened twice. - Julia B. ""............from aboutclay dot com

bentonite clay is available at most health food stores, use no metal to mix, read testimonials and instructions also book reviews

What kind of results have you received by ingesting coconut oil?

After reading all of the information about the health benefits of extra virgin coconut oil, I ordered some and received it yesterday. All over the internet I find people that are touting this oil, but I've yet to see anyone speak personally about the results they receive due to adding it to their diet. I keep hearing how wonderful it is, but it would be nice to know why and what positive or negative changes have occurred. So, if you have been taking extra virgin coconut oil please share what it is doing for you. :)

For those of you who do not know about coconut oil here is a good site with video.

The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, heart diseases, cholesterol levels, weight loss, kidney problems, digestion, metabolism, high blood pressure, immunity, dental care, diabetes, bone strength, HIV and cancer.

Answer
The first thing that happened after about a month of using cocnut oil regularly, in all my cooking, etc. was that I developed a deep bronze tan. A while later I began having strong cravings for hawaiian purple, and even sashimi. I've been using coconut oil for a year now and my tongue is now longer and forked, and I love swimming with dolphins then sunning myself on lava rocks. I hope you have the same beneficial effects I have. I'm off to eat some lettuce now. bye.

What in the world is coconut oil?

I <3 Taemi

Hi!!!!
Well anyways, to get to the point...
I've heard of coconut oil but i haven't a clue of what it is....
Do you just put it on your head?
Is it edible??? ... HELP!

Answer
I LOVE coconut oil. I have a big jar of organic extra virgin coconut oil (the best kind) that I got from Walmart; look for it in the pharmacy aisle. Coconut oil, from what I've heard, has health benefits, and you can ingest it. You can also cook with it. It's also great for your skin and hair. It makes my skin and hair soft and shiny. If you have hair that easily gets oily then use only a little bit of it in your hair. For instance, before you take a nice, warm, steaming shower, put a little bit of coconut oil in your hair and rinse (not shampoo or condition) while in the shower. You're hair will look nicer afterward. You can also warm some in the microwave and use it as a hot oil treatment.

coconut oil benefits?

Halle S

hey guys if you have used coconut oil can you tell me something about the below things? thanks so much??

~Hair &skin
~tanning
~weight loss
~firming skin

thank you SO much!!! also, can you tell me how to take the oil (not the capsules) if you cook with it (instead of using oil/butter), does it effect the taste of what you are cooking with?

thank you guys!!!!

Answer
Coconut oil doesn't add much of a taste to food, but adds a dreamy, sweet smell. It's great for tropical dishes! However, it is mostly saturated fat, so should be used in moderation. Certainly it is not a weight loss supplement. In one serving there are 14g of fat, 12.5 of which are saturated! Olive oil or vegetable oil would be a healthier alternative.

As for hair and skin, it's great for both. I use it as a facial and body moisturizer once a week and it works wonders even on sensitive, dry skin like mine. As for firming skin, I have not seen any research, but most research on cosmetic issues like that are completely unreliable anyway. Having fat in your diet is good for your hair, but applying it straight to your hair will leave it greasy.

Tanning....well, I don't tan ( counterproductive to the skin health issues) so I can't say.
Hope that helped a little :)

What are the benefits of coconut oil?

.

How should it be used?

Answer
The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength. These benefits of oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial and soothing properties
How to Use Coconut Oil: If you are using coconut oil for topical purposes, especially hair care, just melt the oil (if it is solid) by keeping the bottle in the sun or warm water. You can also take some coconut oil out and put it in a small bowl and heat the bowl over a flame (do not use microwave). Then take the oil on your palm and apply it to your hair. If you want to use it for internal consumption, simply replace butter or vegetable oils with coconut oil in your recipes. Remember, you need not switch to coconut oil completely, as you will miss the benefits of other oils and dairy products.

Does Jojoba oils work?

blue

Has anyone used it because i would like to know what it does for your hair. Also can I find it at a local hair shop. Are there any other oils that can be used to help stimulate the growth of hair? Thanks

Answer
I have very long straight hair. I use biotin 5000 mg, coconut oil & Aveeno's new shampoo & conditioner. I leave the coconut oil in overnight then wash out in the morning. If that does not work for then leave in for ONE hour then wash it out. Do this at least once a week. I do it twice sometimes if I have a time three times. I have been using Aveen for the last month & a half & just love it. If you use the conditioner do not use the oil the same night or that morning for it will weigh your hair down. I did use jojoba oil but found that coconut works better. You can find it at the Vitamin Shoppe. If you do not have one in your city you can go to there website. It's $10 for a 4 oz bottle. I will send you the website. If you don't want to use the coconut oil you can use grapeseed oil which you can also find at Vitamin Shoppe. This work better than jojoba as well. If you use the grapeseed or jojoba I added a little in my conditioner or the shampoo & allowed it to sit for a few mins. I most often used it in the shampoo. I hope this helps. How to treat your hair?

Diana

Okay, I have damage hair because I straighten it & I use to tease my hair. First of all its not that damage but its kind of getting worse. I have stop straighting & teasing it but what ever I use to treat my hair (creams, shampoo etc.) doesnt get better. help? answer pretty please :)

Answer
Healthy hair regimen :

To start with, apply nourrishing masks twice a week !
Try this one : one mashed banana, one spoon of honey, one spoon of olive oil, one spoon of avocado oil, one spoon of castor oil, one egg yolk and, if you're courageous enogh to take the smell of it, some garlic. Apply that on your hair, wrap it in aluminium foil, put a beanie on and let it rest a few hours, a whole night being the best !
After you washed it, add one spoon of vinegar and spoon of lemon juice to one liter and a half of water, and rinse your hair with that, to avoid chlorine and hard water lingering on your hair, because that causes your hair to go dry and brittle over the long haul !
Flyways and frizziness means your hair is thirsty and reached out for the moisture that's in the air. So you can tame these by conditioning your hair when it's wet ; you can use any leave-in conditioner that you like and mix it with coconut oil ( which is full of protein ) or almond or avocado oil ( they contain a lot of vitamin E ), especially on your ends. You can also work vitamin E directly in your hair. If you notice your hair frizzes out during the day and you're not home, you can work a tiny bit of hand cream in it, it's tiny and you can carry it in your bag.
Also, if you don't have that, buy a genuine silk pillowcase to sleep on : other fabrics are very harsh on your hair and rub it hard during the night, it's very damaging to it. As well as straightening, blowdrying or any other heat source ! You really want to stay away from that !
Also shea butter is great for your hair ! Any time you want to wash your hair, make sure you apply shea butter or almond oil on it for about half an hour before you wash it. And put a tiny wee bit of jojoba oil on your ends ( it's a very fine oil, it won't show or make your hair greasy ) to prevent them from drying because they're the most fragile part of the hair.
Apply hair organic sun block on your hair everyday, no matter what the season is or what the weather is like, sun rays dry the hair and skin big time !
Trim it at the very least every four months, though after a few months of that regimen, you'll notice a huge difference and won't even need to trim that often ( I sometimes go eight months straight without cutting my hair once , and at this point I don't have a single split end, yet my hair used to be full of them and so dry and ugly ) !
Taking care of your hair from the inside is very important too : eat hair food, such as meat, eggs, raw vegetables and fruit, lentils, bran cereals etc.
To stimulate the blood circulation under your scalp ( hair gets the nutrients it needs through blood ) ; massage your scalp a few times a week. Here's the technique : put the tips of your fingers on your scalp and massage it applying circular motion movements. You have to press the tips of your fingers firmly on your scalp, in order to make the scalp move on the skull, and not the fingers move on the skin, because that would not only be a waste of time, but it would also weaken the roots ! Start at the base of the nape and work your way to the forehead, then do the sides. If you can wiggle your scalp muscles, it brings more blood to the roots and you don't need the massage ! Wiggling them five to ten minutes on a daily basis strengthens the hair like crazy over months, to the point it will never turn greyish ( if you're young to start with ), for more information about this exercise :

http://www.shapeyourface.com/exercise_five.htm

If you want your hair to be straight, you can straighten it in a healthy way, it's called wrapping ; when it's damp ( not dripping ) comb and smooth it all around your head, secure it with bobby pins, then tie a silk scarf around your head and wait for your hair to be dry. It will look evenly straight, but in a natural looking way ! This is a link to a tutorial video showing you how to wrap your hair :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21Uwt-w4mq4

If you want curls or beach waves, you can also do it in a healthy way ( no heat involved ) :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50yw2W5F_z8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epuFmdcE4FA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q9w5ERE5dA

Do these on damp hair, not drippy, so it dries faster. If you're in a hurry you can blowdry it set on cool air, making sure your hold the blowdryer away from your hair.

If it's curly and you want to tame your frizzes naturally : apply a tiny bit of jojoba oil on it when it's damp, put a silk scarf on your hair and wait for it to dry under that ; it will curl in a nice defined shiny way. The silk pillowcase trick also takes care of curls and waves during the night so they don't lose their shine and definition overnight. When you wake up, spray your hair with rose-water, to loosen the curls so they don't look rigid, this will also give your hair a natural shine as well as a nice flowery smell.

Also you will find that washing your hair with natural shampoo will make a huge difference ; if you can't afford or don't want to buy organic shampoo, you can just make your own one ; basically you start with 1/4 cup of distilled water and 1/4 cup of Castile soap ( Castile soap is created exclusively from vegetable oil ), then add the oils and scents you need or want. You'll notice your hair become very clean for a longer time, and it won't look tired and flat anymore ; check these sites to find your recipe depending on your hair type ;

http://www.instructables.com/id/Homemade-Shampoo/

http://www.life123.com/beauty/spa-treatments/beauty-tips/easy-homemade-shampoo.shtml

If you don't want to bother gathering all these ingredients, just use the water and Castile soap mix and add an egg and some olive oil or coconut oil to it. If you don't have Castile soap, you could replace it by a tiny bit of shampoo, organic shampoo being better.

Hope that helps !

Any hair mask ideas with honey, olive oil, and egg yolk?

Emily

I really want to do a hair mask to help it become more healthy. I know that olive oil, honey and egg yolk is good for the hair. So I was wondering if there were any good hair masks that use these products, actually work. If you have used one that has made a difference in your hair, to make it shiny, healthy or even grow please let me know. I want my hair to be healthy and I've been struggling to do so. Also if there are any recipes for healthy foods, that are yummy, let me know also because Im starting to eat healthy as well and exercise.

Answer
Avocado, honey, olive oil, and egg yolk for a hair mask:Yeah it will be good. I do hair mask once a week. If I don't my hair turns into a rat's nest. I usually use coconut oil/olive oil because I think it works longer, you can add argan/moroccan oil or the olive oil or coconut oil to regular/deep conditioner and it works very nicely

How do i make my hair grow faster?

Erin

i cut my hair short to prove to myself that i could be beautiful without my long hair, but i was wrong. so how can i make my hair grow faster? please help.

Answer
Growing long hair will take patience and time, as hair only grows an average of 1/2 inch per month. There are something you can do to help aid healthier hair that could potentially grow slightly more than 1/2 inch.

1. Eat a well-rounded diet. This sounds cliche and over-used, but this cannot be stressed enough. Foods that are good for your hair include: salmon, tuna, eggs, green leafy veggies such as kale & spinach, sardines, carrots, tomatoes, turkey, chickpeas, bananas and avocados

2. Take a multivitamin. Taking a multivitamin does not make up for a crappy diet, so try to eat as healthy as possible. Dark, leafy green vegetables and protein are essential for the health of your hair and skin. Dark leafy green vegetables will help mostly with strength and shine while oily fish(salmon, tuna and sardines) will help with shine, softness and strength. More strength means less breakage which means it will be longer.

3. Massage your scalp for 3-5 minutes every morning and night. You can do the massaging when you're in the shower washing your hair or conditioning it, but massaging helps stimulate blood flow to the scalp.

4. Deep condition on a weekly basis to keep your hair nourished and moisturized. If your hair is dry, damaged, curly or kinky, try a deep conditioner with extra virgin coconut oil. If it's thin or normal(meaning not damaged), use olive oil. It's probably in your kitchen already. Warm it up and apply to damp hair. You can either leave it on overnight(in which case, put your hair in a bun) or leave it in for 30 minutes-60 minutes & then rinse and wash your hair as usual.

Try to avoid using heat tools on your hair. If you must, then use a thermal heat protectant to protect your hair. I would advice you to avoid heat at all costs though.

5. As for supplements, the BIG suggestion everyone makes. If you rather not take a multivitamin, you can opt for a hair, skin and nails supplement. These can be found anywhere from Target to Wal-Mart to GNC & Vitaminshoppe. I'd go for the ones from Wal-Mart because they're cheap and they all contain the same ingredients. That said, I would recommend you go for a multivitamin.

In addition to a multivitamin, assuming you're 16+ years old, I recommend biotin. It can be found at Wal-Mart for less than $3. Biotin will simply help strengthen the hair and can have benefits for your nails as well. Many people report seeing an increase in growth when taking biotin but it can take time. Generally it's said it takes about 3 months to see a difference. I would highly recommend you take a biotin supplement on a daily basis.

6. Drink water! Typical answer, but water is 1/8 of what your hair is made up of. It'll keep your hair and scalp moisturized.

I hope you realize that nothing will exactly make your hair grow faster, but these things can help with the health of your hair so you'll notice more growth.

9. Blow drying or air drying better after using coconut oil
10. Thanks !!!
How can I grow my hair out back longer??

Answer
Coconut oil won't make your hair grow, it will help make your hair healthier, but will not increase its length in anyway. If you wanted to use it as a hair mask, I would suggest warming a tablespoon or so in your hand and applying to your hair until it looks as though you haven't washed your hair in a week. If your scalp doesn't have issues (ie dandruff, itchy, ect...) don't put it on your scalp. Act like its conditioner and apply to the hair below your ears. You can leave it in for as long as you like, you can leave it in for 30 minutes to leaving it in over night. Do not use it more than twice a week or your hair will be VERY oily, especially if its thin. Coconut oil melts at 72 degrees so it will melt if your house is warmer than that. Get coconut oil that is virgin and unrefined - not processed. Always air dry your hair as blow drying it will just damage it. To get the oil out, just shampoo your hair normally, there is no need to condition it.

will the coconut oil mask stop growing my hair? i've been planning on wearing it two weeks tomorrow.?

willow

what if I leave it in for a month?

Answer
No, Coconut Oil Is Actually VERY Good For The Hair Because Of The Nutrients. Though I Wouldn't Recommend Longer Than 2 Days. It Can Throw Off The Balance Of The Natural Oil Your Hair Produces, Which Can Lead To Over Production Of Oil. also Leaving It On The Scalp That Long Can Clog Your Roots. Which Also CAN Slow Down The Growth. There Is Also Other Masks, Like Avocado, Which Is HIGHLY Recommended. Hope I Helped :)

What Are The Benefits Of Coconut Oil?

sobe_merma

I love the smell of it and wanted to know what I can do with it. I have heard is is good for tanning and hair remedies...

Answer
You could consume it

This is coconut oil that is derived from fresh coconuts, not copra, and has not undergone the RBD (refined, bleached, deodorized) process that refined coconut oil derived from copra goes through.

Almost all of the "unrefined" coconut oils on the market being marketed as "Virgin" are produced one of two ways:

1. Quick drying of fresh coconut meat which is then used to press out the oil. Using this method, the coconut meat is quick dried, and the oil is then pressed out via mechanical means.
2. Wet-milling. With this method the oil is extracted from fresh coconut meat without drying first. "Coconut milk" is expressed first by pressing. The oil is then further separated from the water. Methods which can be used to separate the oil from the water include boiling, fermentation, refrigeration, enzymes and mechanical centrifuge.

Unlike olive oil, there is no world or governing body that sets a standard definition or set of guidelines to classify coconut oil as "virgin." but the Philippines being the largest producer/exporter has recently established a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) governmental standard see: PNS for VCO.

Can I just eat a spoonful of coconut oil?

Saturn's E

I heard Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr eats coconut oil with her foods and sometimes takes a spoonful of it. That sounded insane, but I have a glass of organic coconut oil I use as a moisturizer at night for my skin and hair. I had some on my finger and licked it, and it has a strange flavor, but isn't so bad. Can I eat a spoonful of this? If it's healthy then it could moisturize my body from the inside out, right?

Answer
I've seen homemade toothpaste recipes that call for coconut oil. I can't imagine eating a spoonful of it though. Put it on bread, use it iin baking, melt it for use in salad dressings. The smoke point is too low for frying, it just sticks.
You might look it up on wikipedia and see wht the benefits of saturated vegetable fats are.

Aloe Vera gel and Coconut oil for acne?

mckenzie

Ok so would using both of these on my face help is you know heal. Kinda get rid of pimples and help make the dark spots go away?? And since its gel I could put that on first and then use the coconut oil since it kinda clogs your pores or would that be dumb??? Pleas no hate I just want to know if it would help or if using it would be a waste of time.. btw I'm 13 if that makes any difference with the skin type or what ever.

Answer
Aloe Vera is better. You can use toothpaste which is effective and fast. Here are some tips that might be helpful:
1) Tea Tree Oil
2) Lemon juice
3) Apple cider vinegar
4) Bamboo extract or Sarna lotion – good for rosacea, psoriasis, eczema
5) Bio Oil or BB cream for dark spots or scars

Applied lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to face or you can drink it through using it in water a few drops a day. Will help with both acne, and scars as well. Another way you can get rid of acne is by taking bamboo extract something I started when I had the problem really does work. Hope this works for you.

OR: Here are seven best methods to clear up blemishes.

Tea-Tree Oil
Tea tree oil is a popular home remedy for acne. An essential oil is diluted and applied topically to acne lesions. How is tea tree oil believed to work? Tea tree oil contains a constituent called terpinen-4-ol that's thought to be responsible for most of tea tree oil's anti-bacterial activity. Because tea tree oil can kill bacteria, applying topical tea tree oil to acne lesions is believed to kill Propionibacterium acnes, the skin-dwelling bacteria involved in acne.To treat mild, occasional breakouts.
How it works: Distilled from the leaves of an Australian shrub, tea-tree oil contains antibacterial and anti-microbial compounds called terpenoids that help kill the bacteria that, when trapped behind oil in a plugged pore, lead to acne breakouts. Try Burt’s Bees Herbal Blemish Stick ($8, burtsbees.com). A roller-ball tube makes for easy application.Studies testing tea-tree oil against the gold-standard acne treatment, benzoyl peroxide, have shown that while the latter works more quickly, tea-tree oil is equally effective over time. And it results in fewer annoying side effects—namely, dryness and redness.

Sulfur
If you have sensitive skin.
How it works: A time-tested, gentle acne fighter, sulfur “acts like a sponge to draw oil out of blocked pores,”. This dries up pimples and keeps sebum production in check, helping to prevent future blemishes. Sulfur has a distinct smell—think rotten eggs. Most preparations that use it contain a masking fragrance. However, to play it safe (and avoid scaring off coworkers), apply these products at night.

Salicylic Acid
To treat and soothe red, inflamed blemishes.Salicylic acid can have a calming, anti-inflammatory effect on pimples. “It also breaks down the ‘cement’ between cells in clogged pores to help unplug them,”
Salicylic acid is less irritating than more potent treatments, so it may be better for those with dry skin. It also tends to work well on stubborn blackheads.

Retinoids
Nightly to prevent breakouts.
How they work: Retinoids, which include over-the-counter retinol and prescription-strength Retin-A, reduce acne by altering the oil chemistry on the skin. “They help stop dense sebum from getting stuck within the pores,” says Gross. Without oil deposits, bacteria can’t grow and cause blemishes. Since retinoids can make skin sensitive to the sun, doctors recommend using them at night (and being diligent about wearing sunscreen during the day). To avoid irritation, apply every other evening to start, gradually working up to nightly use. Bonus benefit: Retinoids have been shown to increase collagen production and plump fine lines, making them a good choice if you’re dealing with acne and wrinkles.

Blue-Light Therapy
If you want the latest preventive treatment—and don’t mind plunking down some cash for it.
How it works: Once or twice a week, you use a handheld device to aim a beam of blue light onto your skin. “Its wavelength hits and kills acne-causing bacteria,” so any brewing pimples never come to the surface. This method will not address existing blemishes. Doctors typically suggest combining blue-light therapy with other remedies, such as topical treatments. To make things easy, consider a blue-light device that comes in a kit. At-home devices are smart alternatives to multiple costly treatments at a doctor’s office.

Oral Antibiotics
If you experience painful bumps below the skin surface and your pimples leave lasting marks. “Oral antibiotics act from the inside to kill the bacteria that cause acne,” says Keri. They also reduce the inflammation associated with pimples, so deep-seated blemishes hurt less and leave fewer scars.

Doctors usually prescribe them to get a severe condition under control and may then switch to topical treatments. Some antibiotics must be taken on an empty stomach, so read the label carefully.

Coconut milk for an infant?

Rugie

Is coconut milk safe for an infant (9 weeks old)? Thanks!

Answer
YES YOU CAN GIVE YOUR BABY COCONUT MILK!!!! CHECK THIS OUT!
Can babies eat coconut? Well, chunks of fresh coconut are clearly more than your little one's gums can handle! However, there ARE ways to include nutritious coconut in its various forms into your baby's diet... and we'll show you how!
Coconut is not a commonly allergenic food and is not on the list of restricted foods for those who have allergies to tree nuts.
You should, of course, check with your doctor before giving coconut to your baby. With your doctor's consent, you can begin adding coconut products to your baby's recipes once he is safely enjoying other fruits and vegetables. To be on the safe side, however, do NOT introduce coconut at the same time as other new foods. That way, it it DOES cause any unwelcome reaction - you will easily be able to identify it as the culprit.
NOTE: There DOES appear to be an association between coconut allergy and an allergy to latex. If your baby is allergic to latex, then be sure to mention this to your doctor when discussing the introduction of new foods.
Is coconut a healthy food?
You bet! In some parts of the world, where coconuts grow in abundance, they are a staple food - packed with nutrients and credited with many health promoting properties.
Coconut 'meat' provides B vitamins, protein, zinc, phosphorus and iron. Experts used to believe that coconut is too high in unhealthy fats to be considered a useful addition to the diet - but more recent research has suggested that the fat in coconut is actually very good for us!
This is because it is high in lauric acid, which also happens to be the main fatty acid found in breast milk. Lauric acid is what makes breast milk so digestible and is believed to protect the body from infection and boost the immune system.
Organic, hand pressed or extra virgin coconut oil is considered by many to be the healthiest type of dietary oil (this does NOT apply to refined coconut oil, which is the type more commonly found in stores). At room temperature, coconut oil is solid - making it a very healthy alternative to margarine or butter.
What is coconut water?
When you pick up a whole, fresh coconut and shake it, you should hear a lot of liquid sloshing about!
That liquid is coconut water (not, as many people believe, coconut milk).
Coconut water is very nutritious - the sweetest coconut water comes from very young coconuts and it is somewhat less sweet in more mature coconuts. Until the coconut is opened, its water is completely sterile - in fact, during the second World War, the water of young coconuts was used as a glucose supply for injured soldiers when no sterile glucose was available!
After checking with your doctor, why not try giving your older baby a drink of fresh coconut water - it certainly makes a healthy alternative to many commercial juices!
NOTE: Fresh coconut water should be refrigerated and used within 24 hours.
Coconut milk and coconut cream
Coconut milk and coconut cream are available - usually unsweetened - in most supermarkets around the world. Coconut cream is generally used in dessert recipes, whereas coconut milk has many culinary uses!
If you want to use coconut milk in your baby food recipes, then make sure it is unsweetened and has had nothing else added to it.
Better still, make your own coconut cream or coconut milk from fresh coconut - it's VERY easy to do!
Step 1
Choose a good coconut. It should be dark brown in colour and full of coconut water. If it feels as if there is not much liquid inside, then the coconut itself is probably cracked. Not only will you have lost some water, but the coconut may have begun to rot inside.
Step 2
Open the coconut (you'll find some tips to help you here), then grate the flesh. It is not essential to remove the brown skin (which is a great source of fibre), but you may if you prefer!
A coarse hand grater is, we find, the most effective tool for shredding coconut.
Step 3
Cover the grated coconut with boiling water and allow to sit for 15 minutes.
Step 4
Place a fine mesh strainer or a damp piece of muslin over another bowl and strain the coconut through it. If using a mesh strainer, push down hard on the coconut with the back of a spoon to get out all of the liquid. If using muslin, gather it up and squeeze as hard as you can!
The resulting liquid is coconut cream, which should be rich and thick, with a strong flavor. Placing this liquid in the refrigerator causes any thinner liquid (coconut milk) to separate from the cream - you can then spoon the thickest part off the top.
Don't throw the drained coconut away - just repeat the entire process and this second press will give you pure coconut milk!
Another (quick) method is to cut a fresh coconut into small pieces and place them in a food processor. Then, cover them with boiling water and process at high speed. Finally, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove any remaining little pieces... and refrigerate!

I use coconut oil in my pennis during sex. Is this affect chance of pregnancy?

muthuk_cud

Answer
It has nothing to do with pregnancy and very bad for your woman. It's great for cooking; but, not for sex. There was a choice between coconut oil and soy bean oil years ago. The us industry came up with "evidence" that tropical oils were dangerous and convinced the public that soy was better - it isn't! Coconut oil is much better for you than soy oils. Still, it's bad for sex.

If you want you woman to get pregnant, have sex about 5 - 12 days before her period. If you don't want to get her pregnant, don't have sex during that time.

Have you tried coconut oil in your hair?

b-boys#1fa

If so, how long did it take for you to see a difference?
Thanks!

Answer
My grandma made her own coconut oil, but her hair was thin and the only reason why she used coconut oil was to prevent lice going in her head. In Asia, many people have lice, due to the humidity.

"You find people oiling hair every single day, the hair sweats and it doesn’t get washed. What do you think happens? It goes limp and becomes thin because it is not breathing,” Shamillah Mohammed, a hairstylist at SUQA, says.

I eat a lot of fresh young tender coconut slices, and I also drink the coconut juice, right out of the fresh coconuts. You get 100% more benefits from them, than putting them on your hair, since you have to wash them off again!

Beauty products don't make hair grow. Eating is for growing, how does hair products GROW HAIR, lashes, and make them thicker?

There are more hair oil on the shelf now, than 30-40 years ago, and it's because it is a billion dollar business! There are more hair loss now, too, than 30-40 years ago!

There are many hair oil brand out there, man-made oil, none is better than the other. It can very well even harm your hair, even causes hair loss, since you don't know exactly what kind of oil they say it is. In the lab, they add other ingredients that can prevent from spoiling.

It does NOT make hair grow, it does not make hair thicker, it does help keep the hair moisturized, until you wash them again, that's about all it does, they're not glue to fix split ends, prevent, or reverse the damaged hair. Anything else they say on the label, it is to attract your attention. It is a billion dollar business and they do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to 'abuse'.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Maharashtra is ready to go on record saying that most manufacturers in the Rs 3,000-crore Indian cosmetics industry are rampantly misleading consumers with tall claims. This affliction goes beyond hair oils. FDA has found that from face creams to soaps and other items of personal care, cosmetics companies are taking the general public for a ride. The industry, of course, sees the whole issue differently.

If you've straightened your hair in the past, it may grow slowly or none at all.
Google: "Foods for Healthy Hair" - Your hair may be the fastest-growing tissue in the body but, unlike the skin, it cannot repair itself. That is why getting the right balance of vitamins and proteins is imperative. Don't expect to look like you've stepped out of a hair commercial the day after you've changed your diet. It is likely to take at least three months before you actually see tangible results.

Growing healthy hair doesn't come from a bottle or pills and hair products do not speed hair growth. Any hair oil, is another form to keep hair moisturized, nothing more. If you're in HS, your hair & nails should be growing normally, and as healthily as possible, since you're eating healthy foods. But when hair isn't growing as fast, it's because they've been tampered with: chemicals, hair straightening, etc. .

Another way to find the secret to beautiful hair? Find someone with beautiful healthy curls or silky, shiny (not greasy) straight hair and ask him or her to share secrets, preferably someone who is 40-60 years older than YOU. I have 5 decades, so you're getting the answers you need, right here! I won't charge you a penny!

Vaseline, Coconut Oil, or Olive Oil for regrowing eyebrows and eyelashes?

Becky

I have all 3. Castor oil is sadly not sold anywhere near me but I was wondering which would be best for regrowing sparse, thin, blonde, and overplucked eyebrows and growing long, thick lashes. Thanks so much in advance!

Answer
Actually, castor oil is the best option for this. But since it is not available in your place, why not try almond oil rather than coconut and vaseline oil? Almond oil is much effective in making eyelashes longer and even healthier. Its effect is even long-lasting.

Answer
There are a few things that you can do to help your eyebrows grow thicker and fuller. We tend to forget that eyebrows are hair and like the hair on your head you need to take care of them.

Some things to consider are changing your diet, reducing stress and using an eyebrow enhancer.

I added a link in the source box to an article with some useful tips on growing your eyebrows naturally:

Coconut Oil and Dogs?

Lycanthrop

Does anyone add coconut oil to their dogs food? I just started adding some to my Labrador's today - along with the usual Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and a little bit of plain yogurt. If you use it for either yourself, or your dog - do you prefer it solid or liquid? We're testing it out on Brady to see if it helps with his coat, etc. Just looking to see if others use it.
We have used several fish oils for him, but apparently he has an intolerance to fish and chicken - so when we got no results after 3 months, we stopped with the costly fish oil. Usually, ACV and Kelp get the job done - but I've started Coconut oil considering I've heard great things, and it's significantly cheaper than kelp.
Coconut Oil is Liquid at Room Temperature (I Believe above 73 degrees F). You can find that information anywhere. So generally, depending on the temperature of your house - it could be solid of half solid/half liquid. Our Organic Coconut Oil is liquidish right now because it's quite warm in my house (Summer heat). So I just plopped it in the fridge because I like the solid form better.
It took my forever to find Coconut oil to begin with, and the only virgin version I found was flavored and had all this extra stuff in it. So we went with the Organic Coconut Oil. Let me find the link to the company.. (There was a woman at the store the same time as me who works at a Holistic Pet Store and recommended this particular kind - are there any ill side effects from not using Virgin?):

He's allergic to chicken and most (if not all) grains. I have the list somewhere, and he's also partially intolerant to potatoes (which was why we were seeing yeast infections - despite the change in grain free diets). I'm switching off of the Orijen onto the INSTINCT Salmon Meal (New formula) Which is grain and potato free, with no chicken. Everything should clear up then - but until it's available in my area, I'm just looking to make him comfortable. He's already shown great improvement - but I just want the best.

Vet wanted to put him on a Hill's Prescription Diet with allergy shots - I said hell no - if he has allergies, he just won't get food with the allergens in it. It took my awhile to find a grain-free food without potato, but hopefully all goes well. Thyroid testing was normal.
Also, the moment I get back from Finland (I'm a high school student going on exchange in two weeks for the next six months) he will be on a raw diet. We tried this some months ago, but just couldn't keep up with it. But the moment I get back - we're on the raw diet. (My mother refuses to feed raw without me doing it, and doesn't want to learn how to properly feed it - therefor, we've been searching for a decent kibble).

Answer
Coconut oil should NOT be liquid all the time. It will solidify at temperatures under 72F. This is normal.

Is there a reason you are using ACV and other things on this dog?
Are there skin issues going on?
If so, have you had the dog to the vet for a diagnosis?
This would be the first thing I would do - find out why my dog is having problems.
Do we have a thyroid issue? Is there some other reason my dog is doing poorly enough that I feel the need to try alternative 'medicine' on him?

Edit: In light of your answers to my questions, I think you are doing just fine with your dog. As of now, I don't know of any reason coconut oil could not be used on your dog. It has not been shown to cause toxicity unlike grapes/raisins.
You seem to be very knowledgeable about your dog's health issues. This is all good.
I have a cat that is allergic to chicken, too. Unfortunately, cats are much more picky eaters than dogs. I have run the gamut of things to feed her. I did try the raw diet - she puked it. She is 14 years old now and I am running out of things to feed her. She eats them for awhile then refuses to eat it anymore. I am at the point of euthanizing her if she refuses to eat the food she is on now.

can I put coconut oil on my dog?

Aevon

Is there a certain type of coconut oil to put on him?My dog has fleas and I really want him to have a more healthier shiny coat. Also, can I feed him some? I have a 5 month black chihuahua

Answer
First, you need to use something like Frontline for fleas. Secondly, the best thing for a beautiful coat is Omega 3 capsules and olive oil in their food. It does two things.....protects the joints and provides needed nutrients in the diet. As well, hope you are feeding a good quality dog food....Purina, Beneful, Pedigree, AREN'T anything you really wish to feed.

Look on this list and see where your dog food is.

/dog-food-reviews/dry/

copy and paste in your browser. As well, consult a vet. Our dogs get olive oil...just a little, and one capsule twice a day of Omega 3. Their coats glisten, soft and shiny. They both are pictures of health. We fed the puppy Blue Buffalo Puppy when she was a little one, and now both are on Blue Buffalo Freedom.... no grain. You don't want grain in your dog's food.
