Is coconut oil a moisturizer for natural hair?

Katrina Co

My hairis all natural.

Answer
Yessss coconut oil is so good for hair! It works well on any type of hair, natural or dyed. I use it on mine a lot (also all natural) and it keeps it really moisturized and shiny and strenghtens it so it doenst break as much. Virgin/ unfiltered is the best kind since it doesn't have any kind of chemicals or anything in it.
Just take a blob of it (it's kind of solid) and start rubbing it in your hair. The oil will get all melty and more like you'd expect oil to look from the heat of your hands. Massage it in so your scalp and hair is all coated. Then you can either blow dry it for about 15 minutes or just leave it in for about 30. That way the oil has time to penetrate into the hair follicle and do all the stuff it does. After you do that, take shower and wash your hair, you can also condition it if you'd like. I usually end up washing it a couple times so it isn't greasy.
If you're going to do it for some kind of special occasion you should probably do it a day or two before cause like I said, it has a tendency to get greasy right after. Not thatt bad but I think it looks better after a little bit. Well anyway good luck :)

Is it ok to use Coconut oil instead of Shea Butter on Natural Hair?

Answer
Coconut Oil is an awesome oil for natural hair. I use it when im wearing my hair in a braid out for that added sheen and I also use it when i flat iron my hair. I love it because it doesn't weigh down my hair like store bought sheen product. Shea Butter is great but Coconut oil is awesome.
