Can I allow my 11mth old daughter to ingest coconut oil? 10pts best answer?

*Elli's Ma

I have been reading how healthy coconut is for the human body. The benefits are so great. I want to try and give some to my daughter to boost her health in whatever way I can. Has anyone ever done this for their child? Please do not say this is not a good idea unless you have good reason. Thanks all
I was only thinking about 1/2 teaspoon tops every other day.

Answer
I mix coconut oil into my babies food sometimes. We also put it in smoothies and occasionally eat it right off of the spoon :) It's a very healthy fat and great for growing babies. You can use it in place of butter or olive oil on her veggies ( a little bit of fat helps with the digestion of veggies and aids in the absorption of nutrients from them) Coconut oil is high in Lauric acid, which has immune boosting properties... the only other food with a high level of lauric acid is breastmilk, this is why you will see coconut oil listed on the ingredients of every single brand of baby formula!!

Make sure you buy virgin, cold pressed, un refined coconut oil- it should actually taste like coconut!! not the refined stuff used for baking- this is not healthy. Get it from a health food store or whole foods or something similar.

Have you read Eat Fat Lose Fat by Mary Eng and Sally Fallon?? It's basically about all the health benefits of coconut , and how if you wanted you could actually use it to lose weight. I bought the book for the recipes in the back- it's like 101 ways to use coconut products - YUM! :) I highly recommend it, it's just a little paper back thing - probably even at the library?

How can I add coconut oil into my diet?

Coca-Cola

I don't wanna eat it raw cause that's gross...
But I'm having trouble thinking of ways to put it into my food cause I'm a REALLY picky eater and there's not a whole lot of foods that I eat that you can, like you know, mix coconut oil into.
(I don't eat fruit smoothies so don't suggest that...i know it's a popular thing to eat when you wanna consume coconut oil.)
Could you help me out?

Answer
There are loads of ways to consume coconut oil! You can certainly use it for sauteeing anything (meats, veggies, even fruits, etc) --unless you want a specific oil flavor like olive oil or peanut oil...and coconut oil has a very high smoke point. Or put it in cakes and cookies, etc.

Btw, virgin coconut oil (or extra virgin--same thing) is better than "refined" coconut oil in several ways.
(Also, any time you use coconut "milk" in a dish or eat the coconut "meat," you'll also be getting coconut oil in it.)

Answer
yes. Coconut oil is really great for your hair because it makes it healthy and super shiny.

Hair Care: Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shinny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care

is coconut oil good for your hair?

i have pretty damaged hair from dyeing it so much and wanted to try some home remedies. Ppparently coconut oil is good?

Answer
Coconut oil is pretty good for damaged hair, it makes it more soft and silky.

For a great hair treatment/conditioner try 1 egg yoke, 1-2 Tbsp Olive Oil, and 2-3 drops Vitamin E. Combine these, wet hair, mix combination into hair. Let set for 3-5 minutes, feels/looks/smell strange but it works so well. Wash out with shampoo.

Comb olive oil through the dry parts of your hair, and towel dry. Put a towel on your pillow, and leave the oil on overnight. Shampoo it out in the morning. This worked well when I had no money for good conditioner. Olive oil is actually great for everything--skin, hair, nails--be careful with extra virgin, though, because it smells weird.

Wash your hair with chamomile, rosemary, sage, or yucca tea to restore shine and vigor.

For soft hair use olive oil, it in crease shine too. All you have to do is 5 min before you shower pour a small amount olive oil in your hand and work threw hair, roots to tips. When you shower all you have to do is shampoo, and the oil is gone and your hair is left soft and shiny. (Sunflower or vegetable oil works also).

Tips:

-Dont wash your hair every day, wash it every other day! When you wash it every day you are washing out all of the good oils that make your hair soft.

-Use a deep conditioner, and if you blow dry your hair or straighten, make sure you are using a heat protectant.

-Comb your hair everyday.

-If you want some gel to put on your hair (if it is frizzy), you can try the hair serrum from Boots.

-Don't use hot water, only cold water for washing hair.

-Don't change shampoos often. Stick to one, stay away from garnier shampoos as they have so much chemicals, which can cause more damage to your hair.

I hope this works out for you! Have beautiful hair! :)
