We gave our puppy fish oil for the past two days. and starting yesterday she has had diarrhea and vomited once. This morning she had diarrhea again. Is it the fish oil? why didn't it affect her right away? And how long will it take before its out of her system and shes having normal bowel movements?
Answer
Fish oil sits on the top of the stomach and it can cause vomiting and diarrhea. I always use Coconut Oil. It mixes in the stomach. Start out by giving her 1/4 teaspoon per day since she is so small. As she gets older, you can increase the amount by 1/4 at a time. If she is a small dog you can leave her on 1/4 teaspoon per day or you can go up to 1/2 teaspoon a day. Large breeds can go up to 1 teaspoon a day when they are grown.
It has so many health benefits. It is far better than fish oil.
Check out the below sites for Coconut Oil and dogs. You will see that it helps with numerous things. My dog will lick it off the spoon but sometimes, I will mix it in with his treats that I put in his Kong.
It's easily digested and safe for your dog.

Dog still itching ecesively?
HorseFry
So since June my dog has been scratching nonstop. At first the vet said it was due to her hormones being Out of whack, so we had her fixed. The itching continued, she was tested for fleas, mites and skin bacteria infections all came back negative. She was put on some medication. The medication helped while she took it but the day she stopped the scratching started, again. I tried giving her benedryl, the receommmendd dosage from the vet.. That didn't work:. I changed her to a raw diet 1 month ago (natures insinct raw bites) and about 1 week ago I started adding a crushed up allergy tablet I bought from petco, to her food. She has also gotten a little chunky, even though she gets 2 long walks everyday/evening. Her food is measured to the recommended amount written on the dog food bag. She has also been burping a lot more than usual, it seems like she just moves then she burps.. It kind of concerns me, but everyone's telling me I'm being paranoid about her.
Sorry, I spelled it wrong. I was using my ipod touch, and didn't realize it wasn't spelled correctly!
@H, she's a Yorkie, and the last time she was at the vet she weighed 10.7lbs..but I have a feeling she may be 11.5lbs or even 12lbs now, I'm not certain though.
@heart, I was already planning on getting her spayed. She had a false pregnancy, and I didn't want her risk of getting a uterus infection to increase. She was spayed at 5yrs old. So, she wasn't spayed because of the itching, it was other reasons but accomodated the itching.

The very beast, healthy and effective way to treat this is by giving your dog Coconut oil. It really does make a dogs skin supple and itch free from the inside out. It helps aid in digestion and so many other things. It's better and healthier than fish oil. I give my dog 1/2 teaspoon per day. He's on the smaller size between medium and small. Start out with giving your dog 1/4 teaspoon each day for about a week and then raise it to 1/2 teaspoon every day for a week. You don't say how large your dog is but She can go up to 1 full teaspoon a day if your dog is large.
It has been so wonderful for my dog. It's kind of different...It comes in a solid white bottle. The oil is kind of like in the form of Crisco but, the minute it touches warmth, it turns into a liquid. My dog eats it right off of the spoon. Sometimes I will mix it in his Kong with some treats. It has a very gentle buttery taste that dogs love. I even cook with it. It will help stop the itching.Good skin comes from the inside out. Coconut oil will not make her gain weight. It is a good fat that makes your dog lose weight. It's the best thing that I have ever used for my dog. Everyone I know has been giving their dogs Coconut oil in their diet now.

There are far more benefits than just stopping allergies on the skin. I have listed 2 websites that you should read about. They will help your dog..
And NO. You are NOT being paranoid about your dog. You love her.
I read your update. Coconut oil will not make your dog gain weight. It's a good fat that keeps her heart healthy. You shouldn't give her more than 1/4 teaspoon in total for her size. Start off with 1/8 of a teaspoon for one week and then change it to 1/4 and keep her on that amount since she is such a small dog. But don't worry about her gaining weight from the coconut oil. It doesn't add calories, it just really helps keep her bad fat at bay and she will start losing weight. Especially if you also walk her. My dog was 17.8 pounds and now he is 17 pounds even.
