Does coconut oil promote hair growth in African American and if so how much?

Vote Obama

Please give me testimonies!

Answer
Coconut is a carrier oil and is healthier than the products found in stores, however..alone it cannot promote hair growth. Essential oils such as tea tree, rosemary, lavender, and thyme promote hair growth when massaged on to the scalp with a carrier oil (like cocout). People with both natural hair and relaxed hair can use essential oils and carrier oils on their hair.

Stimulation of the scalp produces hair growth as well as taking vitamins and having a healthy diet.

What benefits do coconut oil have for the hair?

twiggy

extra virgin coconut oil. my grandma sent me some today.
also should I refrigerate it?

Answer
Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shiny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.

Hair Growth?

Kaylani

Many questions:

The Hot Oil massage:
-When you do this, what kind of oil is it?
Olive Oil, that you use to bake?
Coconut Oil, which is normally used for your skin?
Or some kind of oil you get off of the internet that comes from another planet and costs a bazillion dollars?
- Also, how do you go about doing this?
Do you pour a cup of it into a pan until it is hot and then pur it all over your hair while rubbing it in?
Do you put a cup of it in the microwave for a minute or how long, and do the same as above?
Do you warm it up in some way or make it boiling hot?
Once its hot or warm or whatever do yu just put the Oil in your hair or do you mix it with something?
If you mix it with something, what would it be? Shampoo, conditioner, water?

There are other ways for hair growth out there too.
Such as vitamins:
I've heard of Hair, Skin & Nails:
-has anyone ever tried this before?
Did it work well with them/ you?
[continuing from previous question above]

I've also heard that hair Skin & Nails, it takes about 2 months to see significant hair growth? This true also??

-Horse Shampoo:
I've heard this works very well also.
What do is it in the Horse shampoo that makes hair grow faster than normal?
Should I use this to help also?

-Birth Control:
Now I've heard that taking pre-natal vitmains helps your hair grow so much. But someone once told me that if you crush up birth control pills and put them into yuor shampoo that it works well also. Is this true? Is there something else to it?

And for everyone else who would like to tell me abuot a nutritional diet and fruits and vegetables, and iron and excersize. And massaging yur head for good blood flow. I know all of this already so you don't have to tell me. I'm already working on those things.

[not to be rude, I reread that, and it does sound rude but I don't know how else to put it that I already know]

Thank You All 4 The Help!!!
Oh For the pills and vitamins section I also have these Sea Weed pills called Sea Vegg that my father orders online. he started making me take them about a year ago. I have stopped ever since but it was nice to hear that Sea Weed helps so now I can start taking them again.

Answer
Unfortunately, hair grows at a steady rate.

I know it seems like there are times when hair grows faster or slower than normal or if someone uses some special potion or eats a certain type of food or massages their scalp, that it promotes growth.

Unfortunately, no.

First things first....the "oil" is only going to grease down your hair. But the massage does help to increase vascularity (blood flow) to your scalp, which is good for maintaining healthy skin tissues that surround the root.

The hair itself is composed of the root, the shaft, and the tip. Only the root of the hair is under the skin, its located in the dermal layer of our skin. This is where new hair growth occurs. The shaft is the hair that we see that pokes through the skin, it is dead. So by the time a hair (no matter how short it is) is visible on the skin, it has becomes keratinized and its dead.

What massage does, is by increasing circulation around each root, it promotes healthy scalp, to decrease dandruff and flakes, which add to excessive hair dryness or oiliness, which can make hair appear to be more thinner than it really is.

The thing with hair growth, is its regulated by a complex endocrine (hormonal) mechanisms. Hormones take weeks to months to communicate with each other, which is why hair growth is steady, it doesnt increase or decrease. There are times, especially when you are stressed out or if you are experiencing problems with your thyroid gland or if you are pregnant, menopausal, or taking birth control pills, that those things all affect your hair.

But none affect the length of it. Some stressors can cause hair to fall out. But unfortunately nothing causes hair to grow, and believe me if there was a mechanism, science would be all over it and we would have a cure for baldness.

So your hair is a product of what you have been doing to your body for the past 6 months, even up to a year. So if you smoke, drink alcohol, take recreational drugs, eat poor diet, do not exercise, and are stressed out, its going to show with your hair being brittle and dry and dull, and possibly falling out. Now on the other hand, if you take care of yourself, eat good proper diet, avoid stress, your hair is going to appear healthy because the shaft (the visible portion) is just a dead version of the root that has grown and grown and grown. So this is why drug tests can take a sample of your hair (no matter how small) and tell whether you have been taking drugs or not, because the hair tells all.

So unfortunately, there are things that cause hair to fall out, but nothing is out there as of right now that causes hair growth.

Does Coconut Oil and Mayonnaise help hair growth? Please answer?

Q. I want my hair to grow at least 3 inches within the next month or two if possible, I trim the dead ends every month and it grows quite a bit, I just cut them again and my hair is a little past my shoulders. So it takes about a month for the hair to grow a few more inches back after trimming.

My friend suggested leaving coconut oil in my hair for 30 minutes, and my other friend said leave mayo at your ends then wash it off in the shower, she didn't say how long to keep it in for.

So my questions are, if coconut oil does make your hair grow how long will it grow within a month of using it every other day?
And my last question is does the mayo thing work and how long should I keep it in for if it does?

Thank you

Answer
Well I would say the answer is 'no' - neither of the two remedies will make your hair grow faster. I know that many people believe that different products/natural remedies can make your hair grow faster, but this can't be true if you think about it:
Your hair growth and the 'amount' of hair you have on your head (and body) is determined by your genes, it works the same way as the color of your hair, eyes and skin - you can't change it (oh well, you can dye your hair :) I do).

Of course, it may seem like these remedies makes your hair grow faster, but it is only because the remedies strengthen your hair. The healthier and stronger your hair is, the less it will break and therefore it will seem like your hair grows faster.

So to answer your question:
If you use these remedies, use them regularly to keep your hair healthy, if you keep it that way, you hair will get longer :)

Coconut Oil: The proteins and fats in the oil is what strengthens the hair. Coconut Oil is known for being beneficial for hair because the fatties in it are so small that they can penetrate the hair cuticle.
Mayo: Mayo is made of oil and eggs (also mustard, salt and over things) but it is the eggs and oil that is good for your hair. Once a week for 30 min should be fine :)

I hope I have helped.
I know it's sad that there's no magical hair-growth remedy.. Patience is the key!

coconut milk or coconut oil better for hair growth?

Hailey

where exactly do you buy it? it is in the hair section?

Answer
i would definitely say coconut oil. not only does it help your hair grow long, it keeps it healthy. you can also rub it into your hair and sleep with it overnight, and then wash it out the next morning- your hair will be incredibly shiny and soft :)

i really doubt you'll find coconut oil in a normal store, i haven't ever found it :P
try a southeast asian store, and look for parachute coconut hair oil. it's a little blue bottle and should be pretty cheap :)

Does using pure coconut oil help with hair growth?

Friggy Fri

Does anyone know if pure coconut oil helps your hair grow??

Answer
hey chic..
essentially, nothing can actually "make" hair grow, BUT coconut oil strenghtens hair greatly.
its like this, because of the elements, like going out into the hot sun being in the cold air condition or like straightening or dying, hair loses its natural strenght, thats the reason why we trim out hair so often and stuff it causes spit ends, brittle hair etc.. but with using the coconut oil, it makes our hair so much stronger and healthier that the need to cut out damaged hair is alot less, thats why it seems that it makes hair grow!!!
its good for your relaxed hair, u shud try it at nights or days when u dont have to go out.
olive oil into the scalp helps too....
