Is coconut oil healthy for you?

John B

Answer
Coconut oil is the healthiest vegetable oil ever because of its anti-fungal, antibacterial and anti-viral property. It is widely used in south and southeast asian cuisine and medicine.
coconut oil ma be high in saturated fats. but saturated fats in coconut oil is different from saturated fats from the animals. It is has saturated fat which are called Medium Chain Triglycerides or MCT which is sent to our liver as energy so it doesn't contribute to weight gain. Medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil also speed up the bodyâs metabolism, burning more calories and promoting weight loss.

coconut oil(virgin) is useful for people who are suffering from certain diseases like skin diseases, hearth diseases, cancers and AIDS. Studies conducted in the Philippines last year showed that coconut oil does indeed reduce the viral load in AIDS patients.

coconut oil is also the best cooking oil because it has very low polyunsaturated fatty acids. most of the vegetable oils like soybean oil and olive oil have healthy chemicals on the but not applicable for cooking because those healthy chemical maybe destroyed by heat and turn into unhealthy chemicals which causes certaind diseases and cancers.

contain omega 6 fatty acids and no omega 3 fatty acids. We need Omega 3 and Omega 6 in our diet but the problem is we get too much omega 6 fatty acids but we we don't get the right amount of omega 3. the ideal ratio should be 1 omega 3 fatty acids to 1-4 omega 6 fatty acids(1-4:1). But modern western diet has average of 1 omega 3 fatty acids and 40 omega 6 fatty acids(1:40). However most of the fats fount in coconut milk are mostly saturated and monounsaturated fats. Unlike commercial vegetable oil which is mostly omega 6 fatty acids. 1 tablespoon of coconut oil contains only 250mg of omega 6. and one cup of coconut milk has 2.5 tablespoon of coconut oil. and it is easily balance by 1 sheet of nori/seaweed which contains 300mg of omega 3 and almost no omega 6.

try my recipe a recipe here.

Answer
How much coconut oil should you take ?

Researchers state that the optimal amount for an adult is between 3 and 4 tablespoons per day. This equates to the amount of medium chain fatty acids a nursing child would consume in one day from mother's milk. It is best to use coconut oil three times a day at meal times. We recommend that you begin with a smaller amount and build up to the recommended dosage if necessary.

Coconut oil is one of the most stable oils you can buy. It does not turn rancid easily. It does not attack your arteries. In fact, coconut oil was one of the foods Weston Price studied in his journeys. He discovered that the coconut was considered, by the local populations, a medicine food. He found that those civilizations that consumed coconut regularly had no knowledge of cancer, heart disease, arthritis, and diabetes.

Letâs take a look at the healing properties of coconut oil:

Coconut oil is antiviral, antifungal (kills yeast too) and antibacterial. It attacks and kills viruses that have a lipid (fatty) coating, such as herpes, HIV, hepatitis C, the flu, and mononucleosis. It kills the bacteria that cause pneumonia, sore throats, dental cavities, urinary tract infections, meningitis, gonorrhea, food poisoning, pneumonia, and many, many more bacterial infections. It kills the fungus/yeast infections that cause candida, ringworm, athletes foot, thrush, jock itch, diaper rash and more.
Coconut oil is called the "low fat" fat. It actually acts like a carbohydrate in that it is quickly broken down in the liver and used as quick energy. It is NOT stored like other fats. It boosts oneâs energy and endurance. Many athletes use it blended into their drinks. It also supports thyroid function and increases your metabolism (great if you want to lose weight).
Coconut oil improves digestion and absorption of fat soluble vitamins, minerals (especially calcium and magnesium), and amino acids. It improves the bodyâs use of blood glucose and improves insulin secretion and absorption (great for type II diabetes). In fact, many diabetics (type I and type II) use it to reduce their symptoms. Oneâs risk of diabetes decreases with regular use of coconuts and coconut oil. And as we already mentioned, cooking with coconut oil does not create any harmful byproducts.
Coconut oil helps the body heal and repair faster. It aids and supports immune function, protecting us from a variety of cancers.
Coconut oil, contrary to much hubbub, is good for your heart. It keeps our blood platelets from sticking together (and causing dangerous clots). Regular users of coconut oils have a much lower chance of atherosclerosis (clogging of the arteries), arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), and strokes. Coconut oil can lower your blood pressure.
Coconut oil is a natural antioxidant. It protects the body from free radical damage and prevents premature aging and degenerative diseases.
Finally, coconut oil is the best massage oil on the planet. What it does to your skin, you simply have to witness. It forms a barrier against infections, softens and moisturizes your skin, and prevents wrinkling, sagging, and age spots. It promotes healthy hair and complexion, protects from any damaging UV rays.

Coconut oil?

What are some benefits of coconut oil? And how is it to be used?

Answer
Coconut oil can be used in salads, and other foods. It can also be used on the skin and hair. It may also help your pie crusts taste and stay together better. Some say that its makeup helps keep you healthy, but those claims are quite difficult to assess.

It is often mentioned to help with various maladies such as diabetes and thyroid deficiency. It does not have any special properties with these problems. It will not increase your metabolism, though it could help you get fat if you eat too much of it.

There have been several medical studies of coconut oil, but these have mostly shown that there is no great benefit. Even the ones paid for by the coconut oil marketers didn't show benefit or were severely compromised.

Incidentally, this stuff should run for about $3 per gallon, and not more than $5/gallon. Many marketers will put it into smaller bottles and sell it for a lot more than that. They will also talk about "extra vigin" or whatever to try to increase the value. Coconut oil does degrade over time (it gets rancid if it is exposed to air for a while), so they will also explain that you must get only the freshest of it.

Answer
Coconut oil, also known as coconut butter, is a fat consisting of over 90 percent saturated fat extracted from coconuts and used in cosmetics and in baking as a cooking oil. Coconut oil provides seven percent of the total export income of the Philippines, the world's largest exporter of the product. Hydrogenated or partially-hydrogenated coconut oil is often used in non-dairy creamers, and snack foods.

Physical properties
Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a medium chain saturated fatty acid. Virgin coconut oil melts at 20-25°C. It is among the most stable of all vegetable oils, has a high smoke point - higher than butter - and is resistant to light oxidation and rancidity
Health effects
Coconut oil is considered by some to be a very healthy oil. Consumption of virgin coconut oil (unhydrogenated) is claimed to cause increased metabolism and an improved immune system, compared to diets rich in other polyunsaturated vegetable oils such as sunflower or canola oils.

Coconut oil is high in saturated fat, which is commonly held to promote cardiovascular and heart disease as well as diabetes. However, populations consuming large quantities of coconut oil, eg Sri Lanka, Kerala and the Philippines, have far lower rates of heart disease than Westerners eating polyunsaturated oils. Like other oils, when (partially) hydrogenated it forms trans fats, which have been associated with heart disease. Coconut Oil is made up of Medium Chain Fatty Acids, like those found in breast milk, making them very different to other fats which are predominately Long Chain Fatty Acids.

Other uses
Coconut oil has also been tested for use as a biodiesel engine fuel, though the high melting point makes its use difficult.

In India, coconut oil is used as an oil for styling hair.

It is also excellent as a skin moisturizer. A study shows that extra virgin coconut oil is as effective and safe as mineral oil when used as a moisturizer, with absence of adverse reactions.[1]

Some people have reported improvements in skin conditions such as eczema when using coconut oil.[citation needed]

It has been suggested that virgin coconut oil may have a potential as an anti-viral agent. In the first clinical trial involving HIV patients, treatment with coconut oil for 8 months resulted in reduced viral load in 8 patients, and favorable increase in CD4/CD8 counts in 5 patients. [2]
