How do you use coconut oil..?

bella

in your hair? I put a small amount in after blow-drying as a serum, but it left my hair feeling kind of heavy/borderline greasy. I hear it's supposed to be great for hair though...When and how is the best to use it in hair?

Answer
Coconut oil can be used as a pre-shampoo hair conditioner. Warm the bottle of coconut oil by placing it in a container of hot water and then take a few drops of this warm oil in your palm and massage it gently into your scalp. It smells nice and as mentioned earlier its small molecular structure allows for easy absorption into the scalp. You can leave it overnight. This oil-massage also ensures a peaceful slumber and is especially recommended if you have trouble falling asleep easily. Shampoo it off the next morning and it will leave your hair with a smooth texture. If you do not like to keep it the whole night, then apply it a few hours before washing your hair and cover your head with a shower cap to allow deeper penetration. But you can get better results only by leaving it overnight. This treatment with coconut oil is as good as an expensive hair treatment at the salon. Coconut oil application also helps with dandruff problems too and hence much preferable to other strong medicated shampoos. You can also prepare many herbal oils using coconut oils as the base. For instance, this Aloe-oil helps with split ends and this Amla (gooseberry) hair oil and hibiscus-based hair oil not only promote hair-growth and prevent premature graying but also help with insomnia.

Coconut Oil for hair?

heeeeey

hi! i currently cut my hair really short (which i now regret) and i was wondering if this really will stop dead ends and dry hair that will prevent my hair from growing faster.
also, if i did buy this; how often should i use it and for how long? i read that some people do it for 2 hours whilst others leave it over night?
should i also use it after i shower so my hair is damp, put it in then wash it again afterwards? or just use it with dry hair?
thanks for your help!!

Answer
i use coconut oil all the time! i actually have it in right now.
i use it every other day, now that school starts i probably will every day. you probably don't need to use it that often if you don't want to though, id say once a week is good.
I heat up the coconut oil in the microwave, and then put it in dry hair. I leave it in for about half an hour-an hour before i take a shower. (I have left it in for several hours before, and overnight, but the result feels the same so i think one hour is fine.)
Then i just wash it out. :) It makes hair feel very soft and healthy looking.

Coconut Oils?

queensgirl

I've been reading alot about the benefits of coconut oils (for cooking, applying to your skin and hair, etc.). I have been looking at several websites that explain everything about the oils and different types, which is the best, etc., however there are so many brands with huge price differences. Can anyone recommend a brand that you find works well and lives up to its promise? If you use it, what benefits do you think it has from personal experience? I know it is good for the skin outside, but supposedly it's good for many, many things, internally and externally. Thank you everyone!!
Also, which is better...virgin or extra virgin coconut oil?
thank you so far for the links, most of those i have read. I appreciate your help so far, but I am interested in hearing from people who are using it and what benefits they see and feel from it.

Answer
Virgin Coconut OIl or VCNO is all you need if it's a good brand.

It's incredible stuff. It definitely gives me more energy and in cooking it gives foods a great taste. Also if you fry with it it doesn't taste greasy.

Since frying can use a bit of it I use the Organic Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil. It doesn't smell quite as good but works fine for frying and is cheaper.

You have not lived until you've tried onion rings made with it. Not greasy at all and incredible!

It works great in baking except being a little soft for some recipes (especially in summer ) because it melts at like 74 degrees. If that's an issue just use 1/2 vcno and 1/2 butter.
The only thing I haven't cared for with it is scrambled eggs. It gives them a bit of a soapy taste but it's great in hot cereal, makes an soup creamier and better tasting and gives me energy

These are the guys I use. They are the experts and the original importer of it. They also use family farms (in Phillipines) and have been a pleasure to deal with.
They also have good sales.

Coconut oil for curly hair?

Amara

I have 3b curly hair. I want to try wetting my hair, and applying coconut oil when I get out of bed. What are your experiences with coconut oil? What will it do to my dry, frizzy, boring looking hair? Also, i've heard rumors that coconut oil helps hair growth. Is this true? Thanks! :)

Answer
I think using coconut oil on your 3b type hair will dwfinitely benefit it, since curly haor is usually so dry. However, I'm not sure if a daily application is necessary...maybe just on your wash days? It gives great shine, seals in moisture, and smells heavenly, nut is a little thick for days when you're not shampooing first. That's just what I thonk, it could work great for you as a daily oil.

I have type 4(a/b/c mix) curly hair, do I definiteky know what you mean about drynessvand frizziness. I have been using extra virgin coconut oil for almost 3 years now and I love it. I personally, use it as a pre-shampoo treatment once a week, the night before I shampoo. I put a plastic cap over it amd then then next morning, I just wash my hair as I normally would. It adds some shine and softness to my hair and helps prevent my haor from sucking in excessive amounts of water or shampoo. I don't kniw if it's because of the coconut oil itself, or because I have generally just been taking better care of my hair period, but coconut oil is one of those "hair care products" that I just can't(won't) ever stop using.

As for making your hair grow? It doesn't. The rate at which your haor grows is determined by your DNA. However, priper hair care, with or without coconut oil, will result in a lot less breakage.
