Have you practiced Oil Pulling as a cleanse?

TerryT

I've read a little about it, but not tried it.
Has anyone actually done this?
I'd love to hear your results!
Thanks!

Answer
I've been hoping someone would ask this question! I've done a lot of research on oil pulling and have been doing it for about four months now with good results.

When I first started doing it, I had detox symptoms for 3 - 4 days as I remember, then started feeling good again. I've used two kinds of oils: organic cold pressed sesame oil and organic, virgin cold pressed coconut oil. I did 15 minutes twice a day for about 3 weeks, and then switched to 20 minutes once a day in the morning when I first get up. (It's really easy to do in the shower.) It felt a little weird at first, and now I'm used to it and think nothing of it.

I had been having ongoing digestive issues which cleared up about a month after I started doing it. Not to be gross, but my poop got really healthy. (Disgusting I know, but mine hadn't been healthy for many, many months and it's an important point.) Also my skin got clearer and my teeth got a LOT whiter. (I have porous teeth which tend to stain easily; I had to use BriteSmile to get them white. I hadn't gone in several months and my teeth were not looking their best. After I'd been doing the oil pulling for about two months, I went to the dentist and she commented on how white my teeth looked.)

When I was researching it I had to wade through a lot of info on the web (there's a lot of crazy stuff out there!) I ended up buying a book called "Oil Pulling Therapy" by Dr. Bruce Fife, and his theory makes the most sense to me. Basically we have a lot of germs in our mouth that are fine when they stay in the mouth, but are detrimental when they get into other parts of the body (this is a well established and well researched medical fact). The problem is that many people have gum inflammation, and even a microscopic tear in your gum tissue (which often happens when people brush their teeth or floss) can allow those germs into the bloodstream, at which point they stress the body which can lead to unwellness.

Oil pulling works on a couple of levels: it washes the germs out when you do it, and it helps heal and reduce gum inflammation. As a result, the rest of your body doesn't have to deal with the stress that comes from those "mouth germs" and is better able to heal itself.

One of the things that impressed me the most about oil pulling and motivated me to research it is the obvious fact that no one really stands to make any money off it. It's not a special product that's being marketed. You just go to a grocery or health food store, buy some oil, take it home and rinse your mouth with it. As natural therapies go, it's pretty damn cheap!

I would recommend to anyone with a health issue to try oil pulling for a month and see what happens.
