Is coconut oil really the best thing ever?

Anonymous

I've read that it helps with everything from furniture polish and athlete's foot to acne and fleas. Does it really have all those benefits that everyone claims? If my dogs have fleas, is it safe for them? I've read that garlic was the best natural remedy for fleas and was going to try it but read elsewhere that it could kill them! I don't want to use any chemicals on them, I want to explore natural options. Any (positive, helpful) responses are greatly appreciated.

Answer
If you want a good flaky pie crust or biscuits you need a fat that is solid at room temp. I don't use animal products in cooking so my choices are limited. I recently decided no more hydrogenated fats, so flaky pie crusts are only possible now with the miraculous coco oil or palm oil.
It's also good for rubbing into dreadlocks, and I melted down some beeswax and added coco oil to it, about 60/40 and it made a sweet smelling natural mustache wax.

What are the benefits of omega-3? What foods have omega-3?

I also what to lose weight. Is omega-3 helpful?

Answer
Omega 3 is a fatty acid. It is one of 2 essential fatty acids because the body cannot synthesize it. The other essential fatty acid is omega 6. These fatty acids do many things for the body. One primary function is the inflammation process. Omega 6 fatty acids create inflammation. This is part of the immune system response. When an injury happens, the inflammation is created and the body knows to send more blood flow to that area causing more nutrients to bathe the injured part. The omega 3 fatty acids remove the inflammation.

You need to make the omega 3 fatty acids a part of your fat intake, but in balance with the omega 6 fatty acid. Breast cancer patients are found to be very high in omega 6 fatty acids, but almost no omega 3 fatty acids in their system.

Since both of these are essential, or you need to provide them in your diet, it is important that you get these each day in BALANCE. ALL vegetable oils, like Canola, Soybean, Cottonseed, and Corn Oils are very high in omega 6 fatty acids. In fact, any omega 3 they claim are changed into omega 6 trans fats when heated slightly through a polymerization process. These oils are cheap, but deadly. You want to avoid them completely.

The good oils, like Olive oil contain a lot of Oleic acid (high in omega 9 fatty acids). Omega 3 should be put into your system from Beef that is from cows that have been fed grass only. The Feed Lots where Angus beef is fed grain is terrible for you. These cows contain huge amounts of omega 6 fatty acids. All chips, hydrogenated oil products, fried foods, etc. are loaded with the omega 6 fatty acids and trans fats. Avoid all of them.

You need your fats in the following combinations each day:

60% monounsaturated fats (olive oil), 30% saturated fats (from REAL BUTTER made from RAW CREAM, coconut oils that contain huge amounts of lauric acid, meat from grass fed cows - not grain fed animals that are simply garbage), 10% polyunsaturated fats (omega 3 and omega 6).

It is this balance that will make you healthy, not just taking a bunch of supplements that are single elements, but whole complexes are the key. Eat only organic foods because they are grown on fertile soil. The chemically treated foods you find in "super" markets (they are not really super), are typically chemically treated, low nutrient foods that do you more harm than good. Eat wild fish. The farm raised fish have the same problem as the grain fed beef. The fats in farm raised have very little omega 3's and are very high in omega 6's.

Your diet should consist of 40% protein (from whole free range eggs from chickens that eat off the ground, grass fed beef, wild fish, etc.) 30% fats (good fats as mentioned including lots of BUTTER made from RAW CREAM only, coconut oils) and 10% polyunsaturated fats (omega 3's and 6's in balance of 1:1).

The Low fat, High carb diets are created out of ignorance on how the body works. Your heart, for instance, gets it's energy from FAT, not carbs. You need to eat fat to lose fat. Get the book: "Life without Bread" by Christian Allan, pH.D. Look at page 140 in that book and look at the 240 pound boy that changed into a perfectly slender guy from this type of diet and is healthy with no cravings.

In order to digest these fatty acids, your body's liver and gall bladder must be functioning well. This is why you need to stay away from drugs because the liver is compromised by that garbage.

good luck to you
