Unrefined or refined coconut oil?

Glamor Chi

Hi guys, I recently pursed Spectrum's refined coconut oil from Walmart to improve the health of my half natural half relaxed hair (I'm transitioning). I didn't see any unrefined coconut oil while I was there. Should I have gotten unrefined instead of refined? I know the "scientific" differences between the two but what are the actually benefits of either one.

Answer
UNREFINED! I know Whole Foods has it in the cooking oil area. Its about $8-$10 & is worth it if you're going to put the effort into your hair. The refined kind has been processed and you lose some of the benefits that you were getting the oil for in the first place. Also make sure you get the organic kind. I know spectrum has one for hair but if you get the general unrefined organic oil you can use it for other things too. Like your skin and you eat it if you're trying to lose weight. The unrefined gives you a multitude of benefits.

How long should I leave this coconut oil in my hair for?

I heard & saw YouTube vids of people putting coconut oil on there hair for a few hours. I put my on about 4.45? I'm probably gonna take a shower around 9-10? Should I wait that long? Or less??
It's really good for your hair once a week for dry damaged frizzy for growing etc...

Answer
I used to put coconut on my hair overnight, and I did it for a while, and was surprised to not see any benefits. My hair became heavy and hard to style, and believe it or not it became frizzy when I have never had frizzy hair before or since. What I do now is spray a bit of argan oil on it when I get out of the shower, and it seems to relax my hair and give it some shine. Not too much though, and the effect is better if I spray it on my damp hair. If I spray it on dry hair it looks a little bit oily.
